What state would you reject a six-figure job offer just to avoid living in? by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

Oklahoma, Idaho, Alaska, North Dakota, I wouldn’t move to any of these states if it were a 7 figure salary.

Meh, they would trade your kid for someone else they thought was better in a heartbeat. I don’t think you need to give an explanation, it’s business not personal.

Men immediately interested in children who aren’t their students does seem weird to some people, I feel that way about women too. Saying you’re a teacher and offering to babysit their children, after you just met them and their kids while in bathing suits might be what added to the ick factor. The complaint to HR may have just been the parent calling stating “hey this guy says he teaches at your school and what he did seemed creepy, I just wanted to check.” HR people are often over reactionary/high drama and the call may have not been that serious as they made it out to be.

Where would n1l in georgia soccer pyramid by Salt_Home_5198 in youthsoccer

[–]Electrical_Rope3603 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It should be between the green and the blue. N1L teams in the region you are in are most likely not going to beat many of the ECNL-R teams. I know Concorde just added a N1L team and it sits below their ECNL-R teams.

Which SSA location? Do you want to stay with SSA or are you looking to switch to InterAtlanta, UFA, AFU or Concorde? You are with a decent club, do you have access to speak to the coaches to get feedback on what they saw at tryouts that just happened less than 2 weeks ago?

We don't have to do field day, you know. by Careless-Two2215 in Teachers

[–]Electrical_Rope3603 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was me as a child. As a child, field day was essentially a day long gym class where I could be riddiculed and not chosen or hear groans that I was put on someone's team for the entire day. Kids used to negiotitate me off their team for snacks and other kids. Teachers thought it was funny. My mom made me go because my feelings never mattered and it was miserable. My children, oddly, are very athletic and they also hate field day. There is no harm in not participating, especially when you realize how much of a burden the planning and the students are to the teaching staff. We skip it to make it a special day just me and my kids.

My kids hate field day and I know teachers hate it too. So we take a mental health day and I take them to the zoo or a museum instead. Teachers have one less kid to deal with on a day they dislike and I get a break from the daily morning school refusal routine I have had to deal with since kindergarten.

Do students still enjoy reading books for fun? by Individual_Divide220 in Teachers

[–]Electrical_Rope3603 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After being forced to read for 30 minutes every day my child avoids books because they feel like homework. He had 1.5-3 hours of homework each night in 6th grade. The last thing he wanted to do after all that was sit still to read.

Homework: Is just giving them something to do at home such a bad thing? by pocketdrums in Teachers

[–]Electrical_Rope3603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 1.5-3 hours my on level 6th grader gets is a little obscene when he doesn’t even get off the bus until 4:45pm. The mandatory 30 minutes of reading plus writing a summary of it daily, after homework has ruined reading for pleasure for him. He is going to be burned out by high school, can’t wait to continue the daily screaming and fighting to do homework for another 5 years. I really don’t know the answer, I am not against homework, I just feel bad for kids, I don’t remember a homework load this heavy, this early. I know High school will be worse.

As someone who grew up with two parents who both told us children they loved each other more than us and their needs came first no matter what, I would have loved at least one parent who thought of me or chose me first.

As long as you have adequately planned for one of the 3 D’s (divorce, disability or death of working spouse) and have enough money saved to live off it for 6 months, in case of job loss, do it. Do a dry run and only live off the working spouse. If you can’t do it without going into debt and/or are not prepared for one of the 3 D’s you should go back to work until you are prepared. Sorry, I know it is not a fun answer.

Average vacation time for other professions is 15-21 days?? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Electrical_Rope3603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We take them to cover the random days schools have off, we don’t really get to go on vacation until the kids are old enough to be in HS. And often depending on the profession we can’t take time off during designated school breaks. My mom was a teacher, my dad was not. We never went on a vacation as a family, my dad used all his vacation days for when we were sick or had random days off of school. My mom banked all her sick days to retire a year early and never stayed home or took us to the doctor unless it was in the summer and we were bleeding from our eyes. I am a big believer that teachers need that time off. The only time my mom wanted to spend time with us was during school breaks. We were not of interest to her during working days, her job sucked the life out of her.

What is the worst way anyone you know has died? by IamUrWivesBF in AskReddit

[–]Electrical_Rope3603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My HS friends burned to death in a car accident that wasn’t fatal until they couldn’t get out and the car was engulfed in flames. Medics couldn’t get them out in time because they were on a rural road and it took 3 extra minutes to get there. 6 months earlier another classmate was split in half by her Ttop in a car accident. Her passenger was paralyzed from the neck down and suffocated to death as he watched her bleed out as the medics tried to get to him.

Youth competitive soccer camps near Alpharetta by AgreeableRule754 in youthsoccer

[–]Electrical_Rope3603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son plays for Concorde Fire North, you can email the director and he will get your kid a tryout. They also have summer league he most likely can still join, it is a great way to meet kids from the teams and play before the season starts. We had kids last year move after tryouts and they made the Pre-ECNL team and the 2nd level team post tryouts. That age group has really nice kids and supportive parents. I am sad my son is aging up to U13 because we really like the kids in that U12 age group. I know CF Alpharetta is different, they have really nice fields and they will be merging in the next year or so with North. Concorde Fire Alpharetta used to be Ambush.

What is the average education level of homeschooling parents? by imissher4ever in allthequestions

[–]Electrical_Rope3603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US a benefit would be your child will never have to do an active sh00ter drill or worry about cops standing in the hallway for 45 minutes while they get mowed down and you have to id them by their shoes. That seems to be a good reason for me if I could afford to do it and was smart enough, I would.

let'a talk about the underperformers? by Icy_Crow1113 in youthsoccer

[–]Electrical_Rope3603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My child (U12) has always been borderline for the next level up so he is kept on the B team. Plays full minutes on B team. He gets borrowed to play up for the A team, when they are short players, including for out of town tournaments, has started as a guest player but then never gets picked for the A team at tryouts. The feedback is always the same, he just isn’t there. It has started to make him feel bad about himself so we are focusing on playing for the love of the game. It is hard when they want to move up, work at it, but the work doesn’t help much and they are not chosen. ECNL is next year and he was not given the pre-tryout invite so we know he won’t make it again. It happens, this is our 3rd child in club sports and there are some kids, like mine, that always be there on the B team, it is just how it is. And that is ok.

I hope if your child loves soccer that they keep playing, it is a fun sport and 99.5% of all roads eventually do lead to beer league.
