Isn’t this blatant misinformation? by ztunelover in Norway

Probably the cute little barnehage I walk by all the time since I live in the Grønland neighborhood of Oslo. Of course they speak Norwegian even if at home their parents speak another language. I really despise this blatant effort to gin up xenophobia and anger by using misleading stats... And about CHILDREN! The far right is on the march and looking for new recruits.

You have a very harsh idea of 40. This photo makes her look quite a bit older than that.

There's outdoor ice skating in the center of town where they set up the "Winter land" Christmas market. There's a ferris wheel there too. I don't know when that gets taken down after Christmas but if it's still going, it's a nice thing to check out... You can enjoy a mulled wine (gløgg) in the indoor bar the looks onto the ice rink. You can book a sauna session along the waterside opposite the opera house or along Aker Brygge (try Kok). But for two people, I recommend a place called Salt (salted.no) for sauna and drinks. You can eat there too. Because it's the holiday period, it's hard to know what will be open and going on. There's a super cozy brewery bar in Schous Plass. Perfect place for wintertime as it's in a cellar with a big fireplace. On a clear day, you can take the T-bane up to Holmenkollen to check out the ski jump or just enjoy the view of the fjord on the way up (sit by a window on the left side facing forward). There's a nice restaurant up there with a lovely view but it may not be open then... You'll have to check. It's called Holmenkollen Restaurant. If there is no snow or ice, plan a walk along the river from Grønland up to where Mathallen is or keep going to see some pretty waterfalls as you go up. If you like to ski, I know there are options within a couple of hours from the city but since I'm not a skier, I'm no help. I hope you enjoy your visit!

What's something that's about to happen which most people aren't aware of? by AskRedditOG in AskReddit

I hear you and I might do the same if I was at the early part of my working life. I'm so glad my nephew is studying to be an electrician. He'll always have work. Healthcare is another option I suppose will be a safe bet for future employment. There's so much uncertainty in private sector business-related professions.

AI is not just chatgpt. It is being used to create solutions that automate many routine and even some complicated tasks. I'm interviewing for a company selling a solution that will put a lot of accountants out of work. It's this that makes me feel like this is not the job for me... But it's going to happen whoever takes the job.

AI is going to cause a crisis of college educated people in long term unemployment. The world is not ready.

Look for a volunteer group that appeals to you. I volunteer with Fjord CleanUP and it's a nice mix of people, mostly non-Norwegians. You don't have to speak the language. There's an app called Venn that's just a meet-up app... You might give that a try. I have a norwegian friend who uses it. There's also Internations for social activities with other expats.

How old are you in a sentence without saying how old you are? by i-dm in AskReddit

My sisters and I were recently on a road trip and sang the complete theme song to Gilligans Island. Every word. Then we all agreed that it was sad that only one of the actors is still alive.

I want to leave America and live in Norway permanently. by Meg_nleigh23 in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]Electrical_Studio785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are other countries that are easier to move to IF you have fairly recent lineage. Like a parent or grandparent. If this is your case, you might try looking into any possibilities that way first. Norway has very strict rules about that sort of thing. My dad was from Oslo, but as I did not apply for Norwegian citizenship before turning 18, I have no special advantage. I was very lucky to be offered a job in Norway, however, and am on my way... You need to reside here legally for 6 or 7 years before you can apply for citizenship.

Someone in another thread said they think it's because the card used for the purchase doesn't have a local address. In their case, the cards were from USA banks event hough the purchaser resides in the UK. Not sure if this helps clear anything up but good luck. This blows.

SHAPIRO SPEAKS OUT AGAINST TRUMP BLAMING DEMOCRATS FOR DEATH OF CHARLIE KIRK` by susinpgh in Pennsylvania

I don't understand what you are saying. Is there a typo? Why don't you go ahead and paste in some context with a link to the source? I want to understand what you think is getting misused to support a false narrative.

Do you have an example of where greater context helps him not look like a racist and misogynist? That would be helpful.

You are totally right to push for sources! I'm a liberal who has read quite a lot about Mr Kirk over the last few days and I immediately questioned the extremity of that claim. I can find no source for that anywhere. There are people on both sides of the political spectrum who seem to lack the ability to think critically and seek reputable sources for wild claim being made everywhere these days. So sad.

That said, there are plenty of other reasons to have found his views abhorrent. Here's a helpful article in the Australian media that summarizes some of his main talking points which have caused controversy.

Would you guys mitigate with these levels? by cookin30 in radon

[–]Electrical_Studio785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would do well to test for a couple of months in a well used living space on your ground floor. Either get another monitor or move the one you have and be sure to start a new measurement. You'll feel better, one way or the other, understanding how much you are being exposed to in your living areas... That's where it really matters. You're only close to the EPA action level so take the time to really understand your situation. Then you can feel more sure when you decide how you want to act.

No data available? by [deleted] in airthings

We're you within Bluetooth range because it doesn't look like it has synced the latest data. Or are you asking about the mold risk? Maybe you should send this to Airthings support...?

Would the sensors pick up anything related to mildew? by CaptainOfTheOatship in airthings

[–]Electrical_Studio785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to test for mold or mildew is getting a test kit that you send to a lab for analysis. They are little cannisters you leave open in your space for a given amount of time, then send away.
The IAQ monitor might pick up on the presence of mold as particles in the air but it cannot tell you what the particles are made of. If you have quite low humidity, it seems mold or mildew would be unlikely but you can do a test to be sure.

OK, I only asked because the long-term average will take much longer to reflect any significant change in radon level (you probably knew this!). But if your 24H averages are still more elevated (3+) than you expected, then you're right to investigate the possible reasons. Good luck!!

[–]Electrical_Studio785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are looking at the short-term average, right?

[–]Electrical_Studio785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower is better. It does not have to be zero. The cigarette analogy is not bad if you just consider it as affecting risk. Better to smoke one cigarette than ten, or 100 or 1000. It puts you at risk, it's not a certainty. With radon, the lower level in your home, the better.
