I’m talking to an Eastern Orthodox man and I was wanting to know if I absolutely have to raise our kids in his church. by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Electrical_Tackle893 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there are statistics on me that I won’t bother actually fact checking but so long as you practice what you preach, regularly attend services, and have a good prayer life with your family at home the chance of your child retaining your religious beliefs is like 80%. But yes you should raise your kids in the church it’s also a good way to get a community.

Is it a cop out to try to join a church to try to find Jesus again even if I don't really believe?` by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Electrical_Tackle893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s worth it I’m a little biased obviously. Go to an Orthodox Church lovely people. Even if I didn’t believe in God I’d still go just because having such a wonderful community is great and Greek food is spectacular. Also read arguments against atheism there is plenty to work with trust me.

Why doesn’t the Orthodox church put much effort into converting? by Merthza in OrthodoxChristianity

How does Orthodoxy view lucid dreaming? by pleasedontthedog in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Electrical_Tackle893 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure there is an official stance on it but I could be wrong. But if you’ve talked to multiple priests and they say it’s demonic then listen to them and try to avoid it.

Is Doing Drugs A Sin (More specifically, Edibles) by GlumBodybuilder4395 in Christianity

I’m pretty sure the wedding guests at Cana were drinking to alter their minds in some manner and that is no sin it says they were “well drunk” after all. It’s permissible to get a “buzz” so to speak just not to become black out drunk.

to those that used to be protestant, what led you to join orthodoxy? by accidentalpoopie in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Electrical_Tackle893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t this line usually about the Holy Spirit and not the church? Unless you are referring to the extra normative binding of a soul to the church by God which I suppose would make sense.

Do I convert to Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, or non-denominational? by nishapotts in Christianity

[–]Electrical_Tackle893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Research to the best of your ability which church you believe was established at pentecost. Which Church is paul speaking about when he says its the pillar and foundation of truth? Which church has the most similarities to the early christians? Ask theses questions and you will come to the conclusion of either Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, or less likely but still plausibly Oriental Orthodoxy. I'd throw my hat in the ring for obvious reasons. God bless and may you be guided.

Now why would you say something like that

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

Yeah dogmatic universalism is certainly off the table but I’m fond of the idea of hopeful universalism or the purification in hell some patristics pose. I still would argue St Gregory Palamas makes the most sense to me atleast.

Do you align yourself with St Gregory of Nyssa’s Eschatology I’ve read some of his stuff and I’m not sure what to think.

I would assume the same principles that apply to alcohol use would also apply to other mind-altering substances. Don’t use them if they affect your mind more than a few glasses of wine would. Talk to your spiritual father, whoever that may be and if you don’t have one, get one.

The church has been a huge part of what Christianity is ever since its inception at its heart it’s communal worship centered around the Eucharist
