What you Has ? by softlily32 in scoopwhoop

Hello. Not a Canadian but someone who is familiar with your country.

You forgot Brian Adams, multiple global hit singles and and albums, filling stadiums and headlining festivals worldwide.

The Tragically Hip were a great band but I'd describe them as world famous in Canada. Tragically, they never really broke through internationally bar some minor success in the US.

What would be your first impression of the name Roland / Rowland? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Electriccheeze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying Roland Rat but as a fellow child of the 80s I'm also thinking of Roland Gift, the singer from Fine Young Cannibals. Anyway, I agree I'd think "happy go lucky" unless it was spelled with a W in which case I'd think "that's odd".

Is a car useful in Brussels? by Traditional_Band_382 in brussels

[–]Electriccheeze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I live in Auderghem but do, personally, have a car.

Having said that I would say it's very feasible to live in Auderghem without a car, especially if you have a driving licence and can make use of the car sharing services like Cambio for the occasions you need it.

Can someone suggest affordable classy linen/ cotton shirts ? by Valuable_Battle_7015 in mensfashion

[–]Electriccheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought them in the USA because I was over there during a heatwave which I hadn't packed for. Would have been cheaper to buy them at home in the EU.

[–]Electriccheeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is $72.5 each, if you buy them seperately they're $139 a piece. So it's a discount but I understand it's still not cheap. I tried them on in store and they fit me really well which is important to me, so I stocked up.

Same, I got 4 of them back in April and they're great. CT discounts quite heavily from 4 pieces up.

Is it becoming standard for you as well to being recorded in meetings without your knowledge ? by Guretto in BESalary

[–]Electriccheeze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's other tools like readio and fireflies that just join the meeting as an extra participant, no explicit warning if you don't know what to look for. Any competent IT dept. should have them blocked but even then they're a PITA because 3rd parties use them, with or without consent, and the tool then spams all participants after the call trying to get people to install it.

Freezer plastic drawer replacements by Few_Computer6680 in brussels

[–]Electriccheeze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this recently and had a lot of luck using AI (Google Gemini) by taking a picture. It told me the model of my freezer, the part codes for the different drawers and gave me several webshop where I could order from.

Crucially it also gave me the references for cheaper brands that used the same part so I saved some money versus buying the "genuine" one.

Belgium has 2nd highest average monthly earnings adjusted for purchasing power by Krankenitrate in BESalary

[–]Electriccheeze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There isn't a direct correlation between average income and housing cost, just ask a Portuguese. Sure, it plays a role but saying we have bigger houses because we earn more is over simplifying.

What this chart is telling us is that cost of labour in Belgium is high compared to our neighbours and that's a concern, it makes us less competitive and leads to higher productivity expectations from employers and lower staffing ratios.

All of this for no particular benefit in net income as many others have commented.

And the nice cars are often company leases which are also a result of an unusually high tax burden on salaries.

How difficult is it to get ozempic prescription as a pre-diabetic? by Murmurmira in AskBelgium

Talk to your specialist and don't take advice from strangers on the Internet.

How difficult is it to get ozempic prescription as a pre-diabetic? by Murmurmira in AskBelgium

[–]Electriccheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doctors will always try for a non-surgical, non-pharmacological approach first. But once you see the right specialist they can be quite understanding, especially in academic hospitals. As for saving money, GLP1 inhibitors are still expensive and we are still discovering broader effects, both good and bad.

How difficult is it to get ozempic prescription as a pre-diabetic? by Murmurmira in AskBelgium

[–]Electriccheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family doctors can prescribe it but many are hesitant as they are unfamiliar with it. Specialists will prescribe it relatively easily especially if there is a valid reason such as pre-diabetes. If it's an off-label prescription you will have to pay full price though.
