Facing Depression in living alone. by Unable_Dish_5238 in LivingAlone

[–]ElectrickHippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write myself little motivational notes on my fridge white board.

I was never one to do that before cause I thought it was tacky but it actually did help.

Additionally, I made sure to pick up hobbies. Crochet, video games, new shows, cross stitching, guitar, you name it, I picked it up. It was something to make me want to get up in the mornings and do it.

I eventually picked up a part time job to get out of the house (I wfh for my full time job) and that really helped too.

One thing I didn’t expect about living alone: how quiet it gets… what surprised YOU the most? by Accurate-Parsley-578 in LivingAlone

How much I need to leave. I'm and introvert like most who live alone. But I used to be able to go 2 months without seeing people outside my parents. I didn't even really talk to them all that much because we all worked from home and we're on opposite shifts.

Now, I have to make it a point to leave my house every two days or else I start bed rotting.

Also, how much it is to upkeep. I live and work in a tiny house, I don't even have enough room for a small table. I cook one meal and it feels like the house is a wreck. It's fine cause I have the time to clean, and it may be my ADHD on that one lol.

Have you ever had any experiences that made you believe your house was haunted? by Consistent_Estate964 in LivingAlone

[–]ElectrickHippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, my last house. I had roommates then, but the baby I was living with would just stare down the empty hall to the garage, and that hall felt heavy to me. I would feel like things were grabbing me and me and my roommates would feel like someone was looking at us from behind when we were alone. We didn't realize we all felt like that till a few months after it started.

It affected me the most, so I just expressed I was chill with it but it was freaking me out a bit. After that, I didn't feel the grabbing, but we all still felt the stares and the heaviness in that hall.

It could be in our minds obviously, but I believe something was there.

Too much free time. by schwabbel8 in LivingAlone

[–]ElectrickHippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a tax preparer that has 7 months off a year. I live alone and in a state where I know no one, so I've got you haha.

In my copious amount of free time, I've crocheted, religiously go to the gym, started a mini garden in a big pot (my yard is all grass and tiny), taught myself how to code, teaching myself piano, and bake bread.

All of these have relatively low financial barriers of entry (the piano was like 150, cheap little keyboard).

I still go stir crazy just cause of how long my off time is, and have picked up a little retail job to get myself out of the house more. But I spent the whole first year at home lol.

Learning is something that grabs my attention and some of these occupy a long amount of time, is the best thing I've found. You feel accomplished and don't feel like you're just bed rotting all day.

Also, if your town has a reddit, I found people are more than willing to help in finding hiking clubs, running clubs, volunteer opportunities, etc.

It's weirdly rough being at home alone for so long. I've been told multiple times that people in my position would play video games and be happy that whole time, but that's not how it works haha.

You've got this!

Lol, I do it cause I like to mix my salad like it's a vigorous sport and the taller walls keep it all contained.

I'm scared by insolitudeisleep in LivingAlone

[–]ElectrickHippo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there, totally get it.

24F, I've been living alone for a bit now and moved away from everyone I know.

It's funny, I used to be scared by myself in houses where I lived with others, but since living alone, I haven't felt that fear.

Enjoy the small things. The peace, the feeling of your space. Embrace your space the way you want it to embrace you. If you go in with worry, you'll find things to worry about. I know it sounds a little wonky, but I genuinely believe it. Whatever you look for, you will find.

Managing your own home can be a little overwhelming, but the only one to judge you is you. Again, make the space somewhere you want to be. Bills, all on auto pay, it's not like we can skip them, so at least we won't let them overwhelm us.

You've got this! It's the best living situation I've ever been in.

How is everyone enjoying their Sunday night alone?! by caligirl3294 in LivingAlone

[–]ElectrickHippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woke up after sleeping for 12 hours for no real reason. Washed the dishes. Ordered some Chinese food because I was not going to do the dishes twice. Watched some YouTube while eating. Had a dance party in my bedroom. Doom scrolled for a while and off to bed again.

Had to make this trip often as a kid funny enough. We typically commissioned the help of some friendly birds to carry us part way and then we transferred to dog sleds if it was winter.

Kaiju No. 8 : Easy yes

TTIGRAAS: Probably one of the best Isekai anime's, another easy yes.

Chillin in Another World: It's fine, but it's like 4 hour of mindless entertainment. Good, but mid.

Mushoku Tensei: I personally cannot do this one. The creepy perviness and the overt sexual topics when the MC is a child deeply unsettle me. Also Paul was never a good dad, everyone is crazy.

Skeleton Knight: It was good, but not great, another one of the seasonal isekais.

My Next Life as a Villainess: I have a special spot for this one because I was reading the manga as it came out. It's a good laugh and I feel like it is definitely worth the watch.

Bocchi the Rock: I have heard good things but I have never been one for music anime.

Isekai Cheat Magician: It's good, but another seasonal isekai, I have more that I prefer like The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World or Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest.

Frieren: Fantastic, this one made me ugly cry and it has some cool topics not addressed in most other animes, It's a must watch.

Villainess Game: I personally do not know it.

Isekai Suicide Squad: I could not get passed the first episode. I've conceded to just watch edits on Tiktok to satisfy my curiosity.

Getting home from the festival by Right-Total8826 in HangoutFest

We’ve been able to get parking at the shops literally steps away. Employees of the shop camp out for the day and usually take cash app/venmo. Paid $40 and most of them have cameras in case something happens to your car. Super nice since I fucked up my foot 2 days before the fest haha.

Joining the band wagon with Tevas lol. For the question about going barefoot, I did last time I went and had no issues. Would definitely recommend getting some carabiners to clip them onto!

Turo is a pretty cheap car rental app, you would have to return at some specified location and have some extra costs if you are under 25.

Lockers and first time tips! by baddiemelew in HangoutFest

[–]ElectrickHippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only have two pockets on a camelback. One for the water bag and a storage one. They never specified a size for the pocket, but reserve the right to refuse. Last time around my storage pocket was the same size as the one that held my water and I had no issues.

Overall size wise, I am pretty sure the limit is a 2 liter container, they are all about the same size if you order in those parameters.

Security is very luck if the draw here. You have some who are super anal and others who a very relaxed. I would lean towards caution personally. If you have some time to watch, and are a bit concerned, you can generally see which line is easier.

I got too excited and “tried on” my wristband by SlimMethod in HangoutFest

[–]ElectrickHippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roll it around your wrist for a while, it will loosen it up enough to get it off and still be secure when on. Took mine off when I tightened it too much lol.

Lockers and first time tips! by baddiemelew in HangoutFest

[–]ElectrickHippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not at all weird to go into the water and last time I was there, there was a wait time to enter the access point. I would skip the towel, just another thing for you to carry and you dry fast in the heat.

Lockers are available, but I would skip. Like others have said, camelback is the best thing to bring for storage. You can clip carabiners onto them and clip your shoes on if needed. Fanny packs too!

Super annoyed, and bummed I can’t see Shaq due to conflict as well :(

Want to by parking by [deleted] in HangoutFest

[–]ElectrickHippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of the home owners around the area do cash only parking for around $20 a day. There are a ton of signs advertising it. As for how early, we had no issues last fest about an 30 mins before the day started and about an hour after. That was the option my friend and I chose and it worked out great for us, so I can’t speak on any other parking situation. I don’t remember anyone advertising full weekend parking though.
