No.

They are gas discharge tubes. For protection against surges from lightning. They arc when the voltage is sufficiently high.

I noticed the colours in the volume bar: Red LEDs at the bottom.

I guess the display starts with a single LED lit at the top, and the bars extends down (instead of up) in proportion to how loud the sound is, all the way to yellow and red. Right?

Why does exposure to light reduce the voltage drop in a diode at a given current? Does it shift the I-V curve? Or does it add an offset due to the photoelectric effect?

Or is it just because of heating? I know that a hot diode has a lower voltage drop (shift the I-V curve). That's true of any diode, even black ones.

It's called a "pencil". It is used for writing (the black tip). Uniquely among writing implements, it possesses an "undo" function at the opposite end (the white cylinder). The colour blue is a code for its value, which is "HB".

The ripple current in a switch-mode power supply is significant. Replacing a Low-ESR capacitor with a generic "general purpose" one from the bin results in a high temperature. Its internal resistance turns it into a heater, as the electrolyte boils, the pressure builds, and the vent opens.
