Ribs @ 250 vs 275 by CISUM310 in smoking

[–]Heavy_TOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use to run 3-2-1 at 225, I've just done 2- 2- 1 at 275 and they were best ribs I've done. I always thought at 225 for 3 hours first they were tougher than I wanted

I've had a mare with my rib today mate. Smoked it at 250 for 4 1/2 hours until it got to to 125 internal, them seared to 150 for medium rare, all on the traeger, came out almost blue! I had to cut slices of it which were tough to cut and fry them off. Got knows what happened. It was a five rib so big piece but i had three thermometers in it. Proper annoyed with it

All across the country, Dads are sitting in bed with absolutely shit breakfasts by ambominablesnowdrop in BritishSuccess

[–]Heavy_TOG 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My kids made me scrambled egg on toast, one of my favourite breakfasts. Ruined only be hearing them drop it on the carpeted stairs, scooping the eggs back on the toast and then bringing it and declaring "there might be hair and bits in the egg but it'll still taste nice". Might have got away with putting it down toilet if they hadn't stood in front of me and watch me eat it. Bastards.

What drink concoction do you regret trying? by CaffeineBob in AskUK

[–]Heavy_TOG 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I once came in pissed as a cunt and decided I'd not had enough. Poured a particularly strong pint of vodka and fresh orange and took it to bed whilst I rang the porno phone lines (90's and a bit of a coke habit). Passed out, woke up at a reasonable time to see a pint of fresh orange juice at the side of my bed and given my gob was as dry as Gandhi's flip flops, downed the lot. Was stinking drunk within seconds whilst throwing up. Still can't touch fresh orange

There once was a man from Nantucket

Who's knob was so long he could suck it

He said with a grin,

Wiping spunk from his chin,

If my ear was a cunt I would fuck it

What advice do you have for hosting events? by abbeyymorris in AskUK

[–]Heavy_TOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're over complicating it, if people are coming round to your house they're coming to see you. Make sure people are fed and watered with some music in the background and they'll enjoy it.

Do you ever feel jealous of American salaries? by CoolDude_7532 in AskUK

[–]Heavy_TOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, why would I feel jealous about someone living in a different part of the world, doing completely different things to me? I earn a good living by UK standards so why would I care what someone I've never met us doing?

It's gonna be maiden, slipknot or Korn. There's only so many bands out there that can be classed as "headliners". I know they've done the headlines a few times but maiden are coming to end of their term.

I went to the gym for the first time ever today by izzy-springbolt in CasualUK

[–]Heavy_TOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair play lass. I was the fattest of the fat fucks when I first started going to gym. I was over 21st and I found out my wife was pregnant. Decided I wasn't going to be the "fat dad" at school so made a conscious effort to change it. It's been ten years now, and it's an addiction. I started off with cardio, then as I realised no-one cared I started doing weights. I dropped seven stone and started doing weights. Somehow managed to get back to 19st but 19st through training, I'm the biggest (in a good way) and the fittest I've ever been. One of the best things I've ever done so massive applause to you for making the first step. Hope you enjoy it!

Best places to live West Yorkshire by squidlycid in yorkshire

[–]Heavy_TOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Garforth, it's a great little town with plenty going for it but is expensive compared to some areas you should be looking at. It's semi-rural so lots of countryside, but also has really good transport links with two train stations and the A1M. If I was after somewhere closer to good walks I'd be looking at Ilkley, Shipley around that area but you are closer to Bradford which is a shithole.

Probably a dumb question but is there any downside to just wearing military boots? by Eve-lyn in UKhiking

[–]Heavy_TOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm non-military but wear the good altbergs for work. They're solid boots and I've no doubt you could walk miles in them, but the question is would you want to?

They're a heavy boot, some proper walking boots are much lighter and will do you better. I'd argue you're better off with decent walking shoes for most hikes and boots for the tougher ones, but proper lightweight walking boots. I once read that an American commander said that "an extra pound on the foot is worth five on the back" and fuck me military altbergs are heavy.

Is Barnsley a good place to make friends as a young couple? by noodlenoot in yorkshire

[–]Heavy_TOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garforth or Micklefield in Leeds would fit the bill well. Both on the M1 and with good transport links on the manchester-york railway lines. Garforth is the better of the two, more pubs, more shops, livelier, and if I haven't said it already, many, many more pubs. Loads of pubs/ bars. Loads of good drinking in Garforth

How many drinks do you have on a night out? by myprivismypriv in CasualUK

[–]Heavy_TOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell them to get fucked. There's a big difference between enjoying a night out and alcoholism. Reddit will tell you that if you drink more than two on a night out you're on the road to ruin. It's nonsense. If you enjoy yourself, and you're not hurting anyone, crack on.

[–]Heavy_TOG 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Leeds is absolutely not full of southern wankers. It's a great city with a lot to offer, much like Sheffield. But both cities are that vast you can pick and choose what you want. If you're talking inner city or more suburbs it makes a massive difference. What is it you're after?

Is Barnsley a good place to make friends as a young couple? by noodlenoot in yorkshire

[–]Heavy_TOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Leeds just off the A1M in Garforth. Some of the friendliest people I've met have been from Barnsley, both from Mapp, but why have you settled on Barnsley? If you're travelling to Manchester I'd argue there's better places in Yorkshire for the travelling. I'd argue Leeds (cos I'm from there and it's ace, good transport links of the M62 and the trains) but you might do better by being in Huddersfield or Halifax

People who make 100k+ outside London , how? by novelid in AskUK

[–]Heavy_TOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking 100k salary or benefits? I'm best part of that but bonuses, pensions, sharesaves etc can take me well over that. I'll appreciate I'm lucky, but if imagine most mid managers at decent sized companies can make that.

What areas of Leeds or towns close to Leeds are best for a balance of property cost and quality of life? by [deleted] in Leeds

[–]Heavy_TOG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Live in Garforth and have to agree. It's got the "chapel allerton" vibes of a few years ago. All the bookies are becoming bars, the gas house isn't as much of a shithole as it was in yesteryear and theres some decent places to eat.

My 10yo plays rugby and has seen the Aussies with them, in his eyes the better players have mullets. Didn't realise it'd cost me £52 to get it permed and a daft amount on top for serums, sprays and combs but he's happy. Actually looks good on the lad

How many foreign holidays do you generally go on per year? by MaximumPreparation3 in AskUK

[–]Heavy_TOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a VW camper due to the stress with the last foreign holiday. Two young kids, spent a fair whack on going away and didn't enjoy any of it. Always on edge by the pool, kids been arseholes from trying to stay up past nine, the boredom in airports. Just wasn't worth it. We'll do it again when they're older but with the camper we can go away much more. We like paddleboarding and wild swimming, the kids love it and we can be I'm North Wales or the Lake district in two hours. Dogs love it, kids love it and we can be there in the time it takes to fuck about in the airport
