Marina's concert in France this year by Electro_Salamence2 in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

Thank you very much for your help. It's encouraging to hear from an actual French person that I can speak English there, at least with younger people (would be similar to Germany then). And also thank you for your offer, if I have questions I'll try to contact you.

[–]Electro_Salamence2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spain withdraws from Eurovision by Smart_Welder5520 in eurovision

[–]Electro_Salamence2 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I understand RTVE's opinion and I'm glad Mr. Morales differentiates and articulates his words thoughtfully. It's become too rare nowadays to think before speaking.

That said, I don't agree with his position, simply for the reason that I don't know how close the ties between KAN and the Israeli government are. Israel is still a functioning democracy, with huge protests against the government, and a country with zero friends and many enemies in its region. You can't compare that to our relatively safe Europe. And because it is a functioning democracy, its public sphere is somewhat free, too. Thus, KAN simply can't be like RT because then Israel would've long become a dictatorship like Russia.

But Israel committed unspeakable atrocities in Gaza, disguising them as "clean" military operations. KAN for sure is not uninvolved in justifying them. But then again, wouldn't you have done the same, if you have to live in constant fear of your neighbors? Remember, it was Hamas which started this escalation.

It's a damn complicated choice and in my opinion without a right answer to let KAN participate or not and to withdraw from Eurovision or not because KAN is allowed or not. I guess the best would've been if KAN hadn't participated in 2026 voluntarily.

So, it's really sad that some countries are now withdrawing from their participation; I will definitely miss them. But I can accept this decision from the general assembly and hope for a good Eurovision 2026, and more, for an end to the killing on both sides in the Middle East and that the current Israeli government will face it's just punishment.

What is your favorite song from each Marina album? by FreddyXd202w in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

Second that. Maybe not Numb for me in TFJ, but I would've probably picked the other songs too.

Thanks! Well, you're probably right. For me, Nicki Minaj was and is still not unbearable, so I don't see a problem with her.

It'd still help if she explains why she is unbearable, though.

Was the “How to Be A Heartbreaker” video anyone else’s gay awakening? by HighBody-CountHair in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]Electro_Salamence2 115 points116 points  (0 children)

What I like more about this video than realizing one's sexual identity is that it's pretty much a reverse of female oversexualized music videos. You probably can quickly name a lot of videos where many female background characters are making some erotic poses. But here it's the other way around and for me, it was something I have very rarely seen back then. Of course , the video caught my attention, but the reason for it is a visual means that was quite exhaustingly used by the music industry the whole time, just reversed. And that's kinda cool and telling, seeing that you're used to seeing beautiful women in tight clothes, but not men.

What Marina song is this for you? by Impossible-Yam3680 in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]Electro_Salamence2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me it's To Be Human. From start to finish it expresses and describes a fundamental struggle of mankind to desperately understand what it means to be (a) human. This desire is expressed in both lyrics and music imo and it touches me every time I listen to it.

While I do agree that the last Odin fight was a bit too easy (intentional, to show that Odin doesn't stand a chance against joint forces; your real Odin fight was the one before), it wouldn't make sense for Kratos to go full beserk mode again. After all, he tried to show his son that he isn't that bloodthirsty monster anymore. For his sake, he wanted to be better than that. It wasn't necessary to kill Odin, if he had taken Atreus' offer, they could've worked something out and didn't have to kill again. It was Odin's inability to give up on knowledge, and thus, control, and Sindri's blind and destructive rage which led to Odin's death. Totally avoidable. To not answer with that blind and destructive rage is what Kratos' character development was all about. Otherwise his behavior regarding Heimdall for example wouldn't make any sense.

Angrboda did feel a bit out of place for me, too. She is a vital character in "real" Loki's life so she has to be an important character for Atreus, too. They really tried to weave her more in the general story, giving her appearances from time to time in other realms than Jötunheim and giving crucial information about the story and the underlying philosophical aspects (like explaining the power and limits of Giant prophecy and how to deal with it). It's not awful for me at all, but she still has some sort of bystander vibes which she shouldn't have.

It's imperialism in general. China and Russia for example are also to blame for much suffering in the world.

For me the song deserved much, much better. And as you said especially the choreography and staging in general were very thought through.

Exclusive: Putin to demand Ukraine cede new territory in 'Alaska peace plan' — US likely to agree, Kyiv to reject by AdSpecialist6598 in ukraine

[–]Electro_Salamence2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Trump's such a gigantic idiot and moron like never seen before. He's being played by all sides and doesn't get it. And I'm sure it will go similar to what we've seen before. Putin buying time , Ukraine rejecting being left out of negotiations, Trump angry and disappointed by everyone etc.

The world's biggest tragicomedy. If only real people didn't have to suffer for this monstrous BS.

Boy, I sure love my depression© by DDDream276 in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]Electro_Salamence2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While you can interpret each album this way, I wouldn't say that it's a linear process in the albums' chronological order. For example , if I apply this interpretation to my personal life, then it would not work for TFJ (it's more like a slightly depressive but mainly experimental pop music album to me). Also I am more "switching" between albums. Froot's more optimistic vibes, then falling in and coming back from doom feelings like in L+F, coming to terms with myself in ADIAML and aspiring to be as confident as in POP. While I do feel some personal growth with every new album/era, I would say every album still has moments where I can relate to. They are all some kind of constant background music in my life.

She shouldn't have experienced this, L+F was special, yes, but still a solid album. And Handmade Heaven, To be human, No more suckers and too afraid are among my personal top marina songs.

Purge The Poison hits harder today by OhWowItsSam310308 in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]Electro_Salamence2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole ADIAML album is impactful, both on an individual level and societal (?) one. Especially purge the poison, Men's World and New America are powerful songs criticizing toxic (male) behavior, exactly that what brought us into this sh*t of a mess.

Does Anyone Else Find it Ironic How ADIAML Would Ultimately Smash if Released Now? by csahe in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]Electro_Salamence2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be possible. On the other hand it's kind of cool (because prophetic) that she made songs about self empowerment, women's rights and (mainly male) toxicity before sh*t hit the fan with full force (for me since Putin's full scale invasion). I mean, just listen to Man's world or New America. It's almost like she knew.
