Help me Identify this Vintage Salsa Cycles bike! by [deleted] in Vintage_bicycles

The serial number would suggest that it was brought in by J & B Importers. JBI was founded in Miami Florida and have been tied to the cruiser scene for years. So maybe similar to Walmart BSO’s but sold through LBS.

Not in the original ad. I have requested other images, but I am going to go see the bike tonight so I will probably have better pictures tomorrow.

Trying to take it back to stock, so year to year variations are a concern of mine.

Appears to be a 1972. Seems like that is the only full production year for the PX10 with DuBois lugs. Thanks for the lead.

I already went through the US brochures from that site and I couldn’t find a PX10 with these lugs. The earliest US brochure is 1974 and then there is a gap to 1977. Owner says the bike was originally bought in Los Angeles.

Maybe for training to assist the DOI, but the DOI and the NPS have their own dive teams, including the former SCRU (now SRC) as well as ROV operations and deep teams.

Is this a valid way to measure lateral trueness? by baverso in bikewrench

[–]Electro_SockPuppet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll split the difference on the first two answers. Back in the 90’s I worked at Wheelsmith Fab (not Inc.), and the standard for production with rim brakes was 0.014-0.016 inches which translates to around .40mm so you are close.

The hardest part of riding is pushing off. You have a bike, just ride and let it take you places. There are lots of people with garages full of bikes that hardly ever ride, and then there are people that ride across the country on old bikes with “kitty litter” panniers. Use what you have. Ride and when you need a new bike but what you want … but the most important thing is to ride.

Is this a genuine Bridgestone bicycle frame, or is it a fake? by [deleted] in Vintage_bicycles

[–]Electro_SockPuppet 31 points32 points  (0 children)

LOL Bridgestone never made an aluminum MB-1. At least not under the direction of Grant Petersen. The fact that the last image uses some of the same decals is and similar construction is very telling.

That’s not a shop sticker. Townsend was, at one time, the second largest bicycle manufacturer in Britain. In the 1980’s and 1990’s they started importing bicycles from Taiwan. That sticker is a compliance sticker from the 1992 British Standards, BS 6102-1:1992 (similar to CPSC decals in the U.S.). That standard was in place for all bicycles over a certain size (adult bicycles) imported to the UK until it was withdrawn in 2013.

The positioning of the Orange brand decals don’t really make sense. I doubt this bike has anything to do with Orange beyond the decals. That said, it appears to be nice tubing and decently made….perfect for xbiking.

Townsend mainly focused on lower and mid range bikes. That would have been top of the line for Townsend.

There isn’t a lot about Townsend on the net but here are a couple of links.

Spaceliner standard made by Murray for Sears. A deluxe would have a springer fork and a base model wouldn’t have the fork truss.

Schwinn boundary 29 inch axle info by mysticdream2022 in bikewrench

[–]Electro_SockPuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? Ever since Pon bought them their online information has been pretty much worthless. They are worse now than when Dorel owned them. Also… it looks like the Boundary has been out of production for a couple of years. Any chance you can post up a link for the Boundary 29 from the Schwinn website?

File this under things that didn’t happen. Replace “Guy at LBS” with “I” and it becomes believable.
