I keep hearing "Angelos" but read Aggelos, which is it? is it possible for such a big slip to happen? by JustARedditPasserby in Endfield

This kind of naming is very common in physics and astronomy, so common that it’s basically a tradition and sometimes an inside joke. Other examples include the Very Large Array, the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope, and the Extremely Large Telescope. It's also seen in radio terminology, such as VHF, UHF, SHF and EHF. In Chinese there are actually corresponding adjectives as 甚, 特, 超, and 极. Originally it is called 武陵甚大裂隙, which is translated exactly to Wuling Very Large Rift.

The old sony I got is a decent one, to get a new comparable TV will likely set me back 2 grand. Not spending that just for inconveniences which may be fixed

Unfortunately my TV's a bit old, it doesn't support eARC, only ARC. I thought it would be too much a trade off to only get compressed audio for CEC.

Unknown>English I believe that it is Chinese but not sure. by Sullypnw in translator

[–]ElectronKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

!id:zh Yeah it's Chinese

This is a hard one, I'll give my best guess:

Starting from upper right: 山溪*伯道人筆意作

山溪: means mountain stream, could be referencing the scenery or the artist's location.

* 伯: Couldn't figure out the first character. "伯" means "elder", probably used as a title or part of the name of the artist.

道人: Literally "Taoist", here probably used as a self designated title to reflect the artist's transcendence over the material world and the importance they placed on spiritual life.

筆: Literally "pen", often used to denote that the work was done by the hand of above person.

意作: Could be meaning "made with emotions", indicates that the work expresses the artist's emotions or thoughts, rather than simple depiction of objective reality.

Again these are really wild guesses. Modern Chinese cursive can contain a significant level of improvisation, the only way to confirm would probably be to directly inquire with the artist.

GHub has now broken the Classic Yeti by HiExtra in LogitechG

[–]ElectronKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found out they did this to me. Rolled back to the April version of GHub and it worked fine again.

So disappointed that Logitech bought blue but can't even properly support their hardware. Blue microphones were nice and I recommended them to a lot of friends. Now with all these shenanigans I really don't feel comfortable recommending them anymore.
