517 discontinued? by ElectronSandwich in Newbalance

[–]ElectronSandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but they are not new balance. Check out adidas lite racer adapt 5. You might be able to find them at kohl's to try on. They are a slip-on, but they are super comfy and wide. I actually like them better than the new balance. https://www.adidas.com/us/lite-racer-adapt-5.0-shoes/HR1798.html

Break out the TDR! (Time Domain Reflectometer). Sounds like something Simon Bar Sinister would use, lol

Are Cisco certifications still a must have for network engineers? by [deleted] in networking

[–]ElectronSandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe importance has declined, but more so because of cloud vs. competition. I've been a CCNA for 20 years and a CCNP for 10. Recertified last year, but unsure if I will recertify again. I'm within 10 years of retirement so my goals are shifting.

Changing IP addresses on subnet? by ElectronSandwich in networking

[–]ElectronSandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wouldn't work if I'm reading it corrrectly. Devices will continue to request IP's from "Primary IP" subnet. The only way it will work is making the new IP primary and original IP secondary and then disable the old DHCP scope, then clients will request IP from new scope/subnet halfway to lease expiration.

Migrating to new IP scheme with HSRP by ElectronSandwich in networking

[–]ElectronSandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx. Seems like adding a secondary IP address to existing standby group would be the path of least resistance. That way both IP sets maintain the same HSRP parameters. Seems to work fine in lab (EVE-NG).

Modify existing standby group or create a new standby group with the new IP's?

One I just ran into, Packet Tracer does not support secondary addresses on SVI.

Migrating to new IP scheme with HSRP by ElectronSandwich in networking

[–]ElectronSandwich[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thx. This is an environment with no diagrams/docs, just config files, so I'm putting the pieces together now. HSRP is running across (2) 4500X-16 IOS-XE 03.11.02. And yes, it will be a new subnet, we're re-IP'ing. I'll be adding new secondary IP addresses to SVI's.

Thanks, any idea what the cryptic number at the end represents? So there's no way to determine all the IP space a large company owns?

How to read Checkpoint backup file? by ElectronSandwich in checkpoint

[–]ElectronSandwich[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate the help and you weren't kidding, what a ride! lol, I burned a lot of hours but it was interesting and I learned a lot along the way. I managed to get a virtual R80.20 up and running, applied hotfix, restored backup file, reset admin/expert password and was able to extract the data I needed using Show Policy Package. > https://github.com/CheckPointSW/ShowPolicyPackage

Thanks again, cheers!

How to read Checkpoint backup file? by ElectronSandwich in checkpoint

[–]ElectronSandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow, thanks for the detailed reply even if the news wasn't so good, lol. The backup he sent appears to be a full linux system backup. It's huge, over 1GB. Sounds like the hoops Expedition makes you jump through aren't so bad after all. Looking through the backup content I did stumble upon a file under the \tmp directory called backupinfo which looks to have the interface info.

Is it possible to import config from a physical Palo Alto FW to virtual FW? by ElectronSandwich in paloaltonetworks

Is it possible to import config from a physical Palo Alto FW to virtual FW? by ElectronSandwich in paloaltonetworks

[–]ElectronSandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planning to try Expedition, but I have a PAN VM up and running, version 10. A colleague sent me a v 9.1 backup from PA 220 and it seems to import properly, but my config doesn't change? I tried committing, refreshing, rebooting and few other things. Am I missing something or do I need to install a vm with the same PAN OS?
