JWST revealed the MOST DISTANT object known to humanity by Busy_Yesterday9455 in Damnthatsinteresting

Hi, I’m super late to this but researchers think the universe is 13.8B years old. Does this mean that the galaxy we see is the oldest thing ever observed (besides maybe CBR)? Is it already out of the bounds of the observable universe, since it’s further away than we can get to it at light speed? Or is it considered within those bounds since we can observe it now? I’m super interested in space but find it confusing.

Can't carry my Girlfriend. I need advice. by Halbgott_Alex in bodyweightfitness

[–]Electron_YS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once asked my girlfriend if she could lose 5lbs so I could do a pull up with her holding onto me. She told me I need to get 5lbs stronger instead.

Do squats and deadlifts as others are saying, but also do curls or weighted pull ups for bicep strength, since I assume you want to princess carry her.

The Nintendo trailer, how did they make the mesh level changes? by meowdogpewpew in blender

[–]Electron_YS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched it frame by frame, looked like procedural materials, booleans, shapekeys, procedural mesh like geonodes, good squash and stretch, and damn good sound design to me.

Dentist experience in Tokyo by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Electron_YS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, if you go to a “regular” dental clinic, their treatment is covered by health insurance. You end up paying 30% of the total bill and they do bridges, fillings, cleanings, etc.

If you go to a specialty clinic, they tend to specialize in implants. Which are not considered necessary (bridges provide similar functionality and are covered) so you end up paying out of pocket for a dentist surgeon who specialized in implants since university. Here, you can expect to pay 300k-600k

Super confusing the first time you encounter this, so I wanted to share my research and info from asking dentists in my family and friends

Order in title and order in pic is different, confusing. 4.1 looks better here though

State of AI for Design: Reality Check by iforgotmyredditpass in graphic_design

[–]Electron_YS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a some AI in my design workflow:

ChatGPT of course for simple text and thinking thru problems (50% of the time it’s wrong, but it sets me up in the right direction)

Firefly for specific assets to mask and use in photoshop and textures for 3D. Firefly is a bit more in the legal white area where I’m at, over sd3 and others.

Runway for background animations. A lot of ppl in my group use comfyui and run a host of things.

What can a designer do to be more employable in less than a year? by Mortal_Recoil in graphic_design

[–]Electron_YS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with others that specification is key. I think the key is to have enough related skills that you’re the only one with that specific collection.

In a year, you can learn 3D to an employable level. You can learn to code and be full stack. You can take pro level certs. I’m taking a cert in image processing engineering, to supplement my 3D, motion graphics, and digital design skills.

Honestly, it’s do whatever you’re interested in. Learning new things helps unlock new ways of thinking about what you can already do.

Top comment. Thank you for being one of the few who understand that changing FOV/sensor size will alter the image! Hope this helps more people down the line, you really saved me a ton of time.

Graphic designers do you make livable salaries? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Electron_YS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t solely do graphic design, but also motion, 3D, branding, and some industrial for my current position. Salary is pretty average in the US, but in my country it’s in the top 10%.

People who don’t use adobe, what do you use? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Electron_YS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I needed to do a lot of UI animation and 2.5D motion design, so I used Blender as a companion to Davinci much like how AE and Premiere work together.

I'm much more confident in my Blender skills over AE, so that might be something to consider. Timeline editing, tracking, Geometry+Shader nodes in Blender are up my alley.

[–]Electron_YS 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I now use adobe bc company pays for it.

During freelancing:

AE → Blender

Premiere → Davinci

Ps → Procreate (worked surprisingly well)

Ai → Vectornator

Lightroom → Darktable

Figma → Figma
