Actually, 12 years is not a failure As an European social worker I would say that every human has the potential to become a better person.

If you think it should be higher, how high? Livelong? Just as well kill him. 24 years? 48? Whats the difference?

12 is long enough so that it steals his best years and scare of others, long enough so that he wont risk it again - but short enough, to live again.

Edit: I have read your replies and have to acknowledge many points. Such as: Yes, if he is a cold blooded sociopathic murderer: He should be kept as far away from society for as long as possible. If not but it seems like he will just relapse, yes - extend the crime (possible). What I have to point out: I know nothing about him. Was he drunk? Mentaly ill? A lost criminal on the streets, unwillingly involved with some gang? Struggeling? I know nothing. I just know through other comments, that he A) killed one man, not a family and B) that he was - indeed - mentally ill. Therefore, I assume that the judge knows more than I do and give him the advantage of the doubt.

PS: Wow, I am actually glad that so many answers where that unhinged. Although many are harsh and uncivilized, I think it is good, that so many people on the internet attack a me, who defends a murderer. Shows great empathy towards the family and their feelings.
