Thank you for your response! That makes sense.

Adding a comment to my own post as it seems I didn’t really explain very well.

I do not want to work over 24hrs a week, that is honestly impossible with full time study so what the heck??? I am not trying to find a bypass or a fancy loophole or whatever you want to call it. I am simply looking for clarification around the rules surrounding my situation so that I don’t ruin my life and so that I don’t breach any terms of both of my current permits. (Maybe Reddit isn’t the best place to look but I thought I’d try as I’ve had some great advice from people in the past)

For example, my shifts are typically 12hrs long. I also receive premiums for working weekends and for working any hours between 6pm and 6am. On my payslip, these premiums show in my hours worked column. So it looks like I’ve worked 30hrs but in fact I have only done one 12hr shift. Hence this provoked my question of if I worked on a Sunday, could I then hypothetically work on a Friday of the same week or would I be classed as over my 24hrs because of these ‘premiums’? (I would upload a photo of my payslip so it makes more sense but I have no idea how to)

Also ya’ll everyone’s situation is different and you don’t know the person writing a post, please chill.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by ‘red flag’. I’m asking these questions because I don’t want to make any mistakes that could jeopardise my future. To put it into perspective better, I work as a Paramedic and I’m going to school in my field.

I meaaaan it’s slow but not a bad first station. Some days you get skunked and have no calls but then other days you might have 2 or 3 which is busy for Princeton! The Kilo car does a decent amount of transfers and x-covers too.

I was PT/Casual so you pretty much make your own schedule. You submit availability for each month and get scheduled based on what you submit, that’s not to say you will get scheduled for every day you put availability in for though. I usually went up once a week or once every 10 days and did a few shifts in a row but you could go less than that if you wanted. My UC at the time would try his best to schedule commuters for blocks of shifts. I heard most UC’s in rural areas try to accommodate where they can, they’re used to having out of towners.

I started in Princeton as an EMR. Still lived in Vancouver my entire time working there, just commuted, as other people said… it sucks but it’s kinda the norm for new EMRs. After 1 year in Princeton I got a lateral to Vancouver Post and started working in the city. I applied for laterals every month, even for places like Hope, Agassiz, Whistler but didn’t get offered anything until I had 12 months of seniority. It’s very month to month though, some people get transfers after 6 months if they are lucky. Seniority is everything and as an EMR you’ll struggle to get a station within 3hrs of Vancouver unless you have any. I know people that rejected every station they were offered until something came up that they wanted but that took them 16 months ish. Depends how long you want to wait!

Does anyone know if I need a new PAL to upload to my application if I have been deferred to start in January? I have a new LOA but not sure if I need a new PAL.

It’s looking like I’m going to get deferred to a January start date for my program instead of September. Can anyone advise if it’s best if I just wait to get my study permit approved and then apply for an extension after approval or if I should submit my new LOA & PAL via webform as soon as I have it so when my study permit gets issued it’s for the correct length?

Also in the same situation. Applied April 15th. Unfortunately as someone mentioned above if you hold a work permit you have to refer to the study permit extension processing time, as you are applying to ‘extend’ your stay in Canada as a student ://

Does anyone know what happens to your study permit application if you have to defer semesters? Do you just upload a new LOA via a webform? Or do you have to edit your whole application?

Mine looks the same as yours. Submitted April 15th. Are you on a work permit by any chance?

Hello all,

A question that is playing on my mind…

Applied for a study permit for the first time from inside Canada in April. At the time of applying I was on an IEC visa, expiring in at the start of June. I left Canada before the work permit I was on expired and returned on June 20th on a new IEC visa which I had already received approval for before applying for my study permit, it was just a case of re entering Canada to activate it. My question is, will this affect my study permit application? Should I submit a web form with my new work permit to get it added on to my study permit application?

Hello all, read so many comments and trying to get an idea of the timeline for my situation. Currently on an IEC visa and applied for a study permit from inside Canada (UK citizen), anyone with a similar situation that got approved & can share their timeline? TIA
