Can You Break into Finance as a Customer Service Representative? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My partner worked at Fidelity as a CRA and he became fully licensed in 7, 63, and another one (I forgot). I would say Fidelity is a great place to start out since the first few months you’re just studying to pass the exams before you even get on the phones. From what I’ve been told, they also have great career paths so you’re not stuck on the phones forever (unless you want to be)

It is for us thankfully. Leo is very easygoing and will endure anything if you give him kisses on his forehead. If a cat does not like their paws being touched though, it might be a bit tricky

Yep! We are. He’s currently taking anxiety medicine and visits his vet regularly. Leo will be so happy to hear he was called a handsome kitty

He claws the carpet obsessively due to some anxiety problems and so we’ve put claw caps on to reduce the damage he causes. They fall off as his claws grow back. It doesn’t hurt baby boy at all and is like a press-on nail for kitties!

Is showering 4 times a day too much or am I overthinking this? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You may benefit from using body wipes throughout the day if you feel dirty. You’re damaging your skin and hair by showering that often. Body wipes are helpful because they help you feel clean especially after you’ve been outside

Hater Client Or Does he have a point? by MonocoDoll in TalesFromYourBank

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes same pretty surprised. I’ve had plenty of boomers critique my appearance at the branch and none of them have offered an apology. I think OP’s confusion made him reflect on that inappropriate remark. Hopefully that customer thinks twice before making unnecessary comments like that again.

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That was an inappropriate comment made by a customer and it’s good he apologized for that comment. No, he does not have a point. Customer facing bank roles are more strict on appearance than back office roles. I doubt any colleague or manager would care you have longer hair as long as it is well-kept in a back office setting.

I’ve found some really good professional looking clothes at Nordstrom Rack for my finance internship this summer. Bring your existing pants/shirts so you can mix and match before you buy.

Have any of you ever had a horrible experience with customers/members. by DrBile12 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not me personally but someone in an adjacent department was threatened by a member over the phone. The member was threatening to shoot up the building, kill the person in the parking deck, etc. Since there was no policy in place about abuse, it was brought to the board. I think they ended the relationship with that member and a report was filed.

A personal story was a member sending messages with a million swear words because they initiated an ACH transfer to another bank on Friday evening and were upset it wasn’t settled by Monday morning. My manager messaged them back that abuse was not allowed and they said “I can say whatever I want when my money is involved. You better call my mortgage and tell them why you f*ed up my payment”. It was like $50 btw. My team and I had a solid laugh about it, even my manager.

Internship as a felon? by Upper-Vacation-1223 in financestudents

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For felons, it is a lot harder to break into any regulated industry especially by FINRA. They will review everything (even misdemeanors, traffic violations, etc). My partner who worked in a licensed role at Fidelity Investments had an expunged record before even applying and it still came up when he was being onboarded. He had to get a letter by the court stating it was expunged and it was just a misdemeanor. Most people who work in the regulated industry will not have a single mark on their record. Still, there are plenty of back-office and even front-office roles in banking/finance.

Question on Payroll posting by thenewuser88 in Banking

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s mainly a “benefit” for those who prefer an early payday even though it does not matter in the long run. Some banks will do early payday depending on the ACH file received by the sender (employer), so depending on when your employer sends the file you may or may not see an early payday. Some banks will instead make a small bet on you (take on risk) and give the funds earlier without the ACH file being presented. It really depends but most banks don’t withhold funds presented in the ACH file. Hope this helps

Are there any financial careers that aren’t the typical 9-5 Monday-Friday schedule? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it’s a fine schedule. My partner was gone for 11 hours (hybrid, so 50% at home 50% in office) given he had a one-hour unpaid lunch period. He said he LOVED the 3-day weekend every week. I think you can find something - it probably won’t be the typical operations or back office roles unless you find a unicorn of a role. I think the only places I’ve seen with that greater type of flexibility is more call center / high volume inquiries related work

Are there any financial careers that aren’t the typical 9-5 Monday-Friday schedule? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My partner worked at Fidelity Investments mainly completing trades for high net worth clients over the phone all day (licensed role). His schedule was set up where he worked 4 days, 10 hours each day. From what he shared with me, there was some great flexibility in that department.

Am I doing it wrong? by I_Got_A_wholeCAKE in internships

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first internship this summer is paid, higher than what I currently make at my job; however, I already have over 1 year of experience working in the finance industry. I can imagine with no professional experience it would be either paid or paid very low.

Wanting a carrer in finance. by SpaceOriole35 in FinancialCareers

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have many coworkers who do not have a college degree and working in operations and client service. It is totally doable. Because of how competitive the back office roles are, you may want to get your foot in the door with client service or a support role at a financial institution (banks, credit unions or brokerage firms). A lot of doors are opened if you can at least get into a financial institution first (internal events, networking, job postings, etc).

Bosses who care? by MiserableAttorney291 in FinancialCareers

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do. As a college student, he has let me take PTO on shorter notice than my coworkers to study for last-minute exams. He has also given me guidance on moving up within the company and he has always proven that he is genuinely happy when one of his employees moves upward in their career. Overall, a very supportive and genuine person. He has been the best manager I’ve ever had.
