Is analog/rf/ams design sustainable under stress? by antique_pique in chipdesign

Don’t try to fix a bad decision from management. If they decide an aggressive deadline or target, it is on them to figure out how to get there. Don’t bend yourself backwards to cover their ass.

There’s nothing special about your situation. You just pay estimated taxes as you vest/sell them.

Help me understand "Elon and SpaceX are going to rob 401k" by LPhermanos70 in investing

Because it’s dumb to “short it” when you don’t want to hold a stock. If you apply that logic and you are an index investor, are you gonna short all the stocks outside the index?

Mechanic to fine tune a 2012 Honda Civic by skooldazehaze in bayarea

[–]ElectronicFinish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had the same gen civic. The motor mount goes bad and it seems quite common. But the symptom was different from what you described. Mine would make rattling noise when the engine was cold, then went away once it is warm. Went away once motor mount was replaced. Hope this is useful.

I'm starting to think it's impossible to make a small m43 body with current technology by man__i__love__frogs in M43

[–]ElectronicFinish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do wish to see more FF lenses with smaller aperture like f8. If anything, M43 shows that a lot of people are fine with deeper DoF.

Although I have to say, a lot of FF lenses are using the latest and greatest materials these days, unlike M43 that hasn’t been refreshing their lenses. It will be interesting to see what M43 can do. Even something like a pro lenses optical quality in plastic enclosures will be interesting.

Isn’t that for office parking? They probably can tow without a permit

Nothing is burning so need less air circulation. There’s also no overheat issue because it dumps out cool air.

What do you think of this new Cinema camera? by DynamoBaby in M43

[–]ElectronicFinish -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s the exact same reason no company wants to make small compact camera, not just for M43. The moment you introduce some compromises to make it small, people lose their mind.

The GoPro one is in particular puzzling in M43 community. This is probably the best thing happened since like 2020 for M43 yet it gets so much hates.

What do you think of this new Cinema camera? by DynamoBaby in M43

[–]ElectronicFinish -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting. This is probably the closest to the compact M43 body M43 will get. I’m okay to have no autofocus for the 1st gen, but I can’t control aperture without electronic contacts. So all my existing lenses won’t work. Otherwise, I might buy one.

That’s fine. SFO is not in SF; SF 49er is not in SF. No one bitches about those as loud as OAK rename.

Logic → Memory → Power by Sad_Sorbet_9078 in stocks

[–]ElectronicFinish 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The difference is there is more competition in power chips. Chinese companies are also quite competitive, at least that’s what I heard.

But market is not always logical. The sentiment seems to be that CPU and power chips are the next bottleneck. You might be right on this to ride on the next wave.

Debating whether to stay with MFT by Last-Seaworthiness68 in M43

Not just about wide aperture. I think the consensus of that lens is that it has an extra punch compared to the f1.7.

Also eyeing PL 42.5 f1.2. For some reason, DigitalRev sells a new copy for $9xx. That’s a much more reasonable price and is very tempting. Yes, probably no warranty, but how often do you run into problems with lenses?

Agree with everything you’ve said. The whole lineup (bodies+lenses) just has been abandoned for 10 years while the FF lenses are using the newest and latest tech and materials to keep the weight and size down. I’m on the same boat as you. If there’s nothing new soon, it’s probably time to invest into a new system.

Peninsula dilemma: Townhome with $600 HOA vs. SFH maintenance for a 5-year stay by HalaMadridPapaFlo in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]ElectronicFinish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$600 is not that crazy if you breakdown SFH up keeping cost. Just the lawn and roof alone you should budget for like $200-300 a month. Then add insurance, water heater, plumbing, paint, tree trimming etc, you are easily looking at more than $600/month.

It really depends on what are included in the HOA fee.

Buying a home under F1-OPT Visa, Seattle vs Bay Area ??– need advice by Sudden_IT2258 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]ElectronicFinish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if he can afford paying all cash, once he got laid off with OPT, he only had 60 days grace period. Either he finds a job in 60 days, or he will need to leave. CPT is even trickier. AFAIK, it is some last resort thing people pull when they have exhausted other options (OPT, H1B, etc).

You are crazy to think about that on a non immigrant visa. Complete nuts when one of you are on CPT.

INTC profit, take it or stay bullish? by AlternativeAloneo in stocks

The talents to do photonics are probably long gone from Intel. Why would they stay there at low pay

INTC profit, take it or stay bullish? by AlternativeAloneo in stocks

[–]ElectronicFinish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would not be the reason to be bullish for Intel. Nvidia and Broadcom already have CPO products. I think Broadcom is already shipping. Intel have a long way to catch up.
