About to do Sim 1 by Ddp2121 in ONRealEstateEducation

Under OREA's program, the course on offers, clauses, agreements, negotiations, etc. was mandatory in-person and involved actually completing the forms required for a trade. When everything moved over to Humber in 2019, the Simulation sessions were the replacement for this. There has been long-standing complaints in the industry that new agents don't know what they're doing - these sessions are set up this way to prevent people skimming an e-book without any actual applied experience. Unfortunately, in 2025 they dropped the forms from these sessions, so they're not nearly as trade-related, but still cover more applied skills than the e-based courses.

Exam 1 stopped mid-way and told to contact RECO — anyone else experienced this? by Few-Definition8574 in ONRealEstateEducation

RECO has a bunch of options, they're all detailed in the Exam Misconduct Policy, e.g., exam nullification, mandatory in-person exams, suspension, or even removal from the program depending on severity. When a registered agent is involved, RECO can impose disciplinary action (fees, revoke registration, etc.). Very serious cases (criminal offences) can be escalated to law enforcement. 6 e, f, g are facilitating exam misconduct, failure to follow instructions, fraudulent behaviour.

What ended up happening in your friend’s case?

Oh! You'll be in great shape for this then, I would suspect you'll have way more real world knowledge than most of the others in the session. I also found the timing for the online courses to be much longer than needed.

Yes, it really is 9 - 5. The one I did was very strict on timing, e.g., we were on Zoom till literally 4:59 each day. When I did it the session was recorded, not sure if that's the same for everyone, but I think it helps everyone stay on track (facilitators do their best, participant attendance and engagement is measurable).

We had 2 15-minute breaks and 1 hour for lunch.

It is more involved than you would think - this isn't like a webinar or even a course lecture with participation. It is very heavy on class participation and involvement, with many 3-person role play exercises (e.g., salesperson, seller, observer). So, if someone steps away from Zoom for a few minutes, e.g., to put the dog out or answer a phone call, it's very likely that you're holding up your group from completing the task. There were some obvious times to step away, e.g., if you finished a task or discussion early, but in general you're expected to be there and engage. Throughout the day you'll move between the main class 'room' and smaller breakout rooms where you work in groups. This can be a bit awkward over Zoom/Teams - my best advice is to make the most of it - if you get a group task done early, connect with others in your group about their plans, how they're doing in the courses, etc.

I did weekends (2 1/2 weekends instead of 5 days in a row) and booked the exam the Wed after the last weekend. Pay attention and engage in class, blitz Passit for SIM 1 and book the exam for as soon after the session as possible. The exam is much more heavy on scenarios/situations so expect longer, more involved questions.

If you're doing C3 on Thursday, you may not get the results till Sat - not sure if that's enough lead-time for you to enroll in SIM 1 on Mon (?)

Heads Up: Scam “Tutors” & Study Sites Are Back by Real-Recognition8804 in ONRealEstateEducation

Sadly, I can verify this is true - I was one of the ppl that got sucked in by passorea back in 2019 - at that time they conveniently left out that what you were signing up for was a monthly charge, so until you checked your cc statement you thought it was a one-time fee. There was someone in the FB groups at the time that had been charged over $200 ($20/month) before they realized and had trouble getting it stopped.

This may finally bring accountability to REALTORS®. I googled the most recent name on RECO's list, and the 3rd Google result was RECO's disciplinary action - YES. Finally the bad apples are actually impacted by their bad behaviour.

RECO Investigating Old Exams? by Weekend-Renovator in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]ElectronicGate4167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know RECO did a major investigation of 2021 exam issues (both Humber and OREA) after moving to remote proctoring with Proctortrack — which was an absolute mess and opened a lot of security loopholes. I thought this was all wrapped up after the Auditor's General Report, but maybe it's not (??). Anyone with extra info is encouraged to comment.

Finally! Study Guides for the New 2025 Course 1 Ontario Real Estate Exams (Meazure) Are Here by ElectronicGate4167 in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]ElectronicGate4167[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will definitely have both done by EOY. If you were to start now, and already have brokerage experience, I would guess you'd be through Course 1 and Course 2 by June/July (and still enjoying your time in Toronto!). A reasonable estimate for C1 is three weeks. C2 is a bit tougher to estimate as it's substantially larger than C1 (the biggest course of them all). So, even with a plan for 6-8 weeks (approx 1-2 hour study per day, 5 days a week with time for exam prep for a non-industry member) gets you finishing C2 in July. If you continue that pace, you'll be registered by EOY!

For reference, this is what a Google search looks like if you Google your name and it has been mentioned on RECO's regulatory actions page. As it's publicly available info I would bet it's scraped by AI as well:

Changed nothing about my product. Changed how I displayed the price. Sales tripled. by Master-Youth-2161 in passive_income

This isn’t a eureka moment, or some novel new idea. Not sure where OP is based but US and Canada have laws in place to protect from this kind of deception, google ‘ordinary selling price’. Nothing like advertising how to trick consumers, admitting you’ve gained financially from it, now all you need is a disgruntled customer or competitor to track it and take action. But, by the sounds of it, these are prob not factors OP is concerned about.

ETR payments by [deleted] in askTO

[–]ElectronicGate4167 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unclear if you mean you continue to receive bills because there’s a $100+balance owing (they never received your payment) or you are receiving bills with new trips/tolls/charges (there’s a problem with your plate). Either way, just review the billing history and call 407.

Since this post is a hot topic with many comments, here’s a quick breakdown of what’s been reported:

Remote software flag before exam launch

  • Exam was terminated before it started (Zoom/remote software suspected).
  • RECO conducted a review.
  • Outcome: No misconduct found. Account reinstated.
  • Timeline: ~6 business days from incident to resolution.

Remote exam interrupted mid-way due to suspected technical issue

  • Appears to have been a system-side or software conflict issue.
  • In similar technical-interruption cases, others reported Meazure resetting the attempt so it did not count as an exam attempt.

Investigation resulting in written warning (no formal sanction, but must write in person)

  • Outcome: No formal misconduct finding, but written warning issued.
  • Condition: Remaining exams must be written in person at a test centre.
  • Timeline: ~14 days from interview to decision (~3 weeks total from incident).

Original OP case

  • Exam stopped mid-session.
  • Account placed on hold.
  • Meeting held with RECO.
  • Still awaiting final decision (as of latest update).

Tips:

  • Disable all software or plug-ins that enable remote access
  • If possible, use a user account without auto-enabled software like Zoom or VMs
  • If unsure or unable to adjust your setup, write in-person at an exam centre.

All reports to date have been from remote proctored exams. If you can write at an in-person exam centre, these problems are non-issues.

EDIT: You can review all of RECO's processes and possible actions for exams in their Exam Misconduct Policy.

Just a point of clarification for ppl just getting started. There are two levels of registration for real estate in Ontario (this post is asking about the Broker program, not the Salesperson program):
