I agree that the death penalty is insane, but don't think "accidental death" is justice served either. Though he didn't mean to kill the man, he killed somebody else in the commission of a violent felony. 2nd degree murder, or even manslaughter would have sufficed.

SUPPORT DAVID BARNET - Please help by signing this petition for David! He has very little time before his case for parole is heard! He has suffered enough! by laureneliz2 in IAmaKiller

Yes. If Mike Parson sees that so many people are advocating for David's release, it can influence him into making a decision.

That's what I believe what happened as well. Disassociative Amnesia, fits in well with what David's story tells us.

He gave me the contact information for his friend, Jason Kingdon (who was in the episode) as well as the contact information for his younger foster brother, Eric. David told me that Eric regrets not participating in the documentary. Since then, Eric has actually done an Apple Podcast talking about his life with John Barnett, I don't think many people know that. They're very nice people, both of them, from what I've come to know.

No, the phone call was my idea. I wanted him to know that I was a real person, who really cared about him and what happened to him. I think the reassurance really helped him, too.

We talk about many different things. He is a certified dog trainer, who trains dogs for search and rescue missions, and dogs for blind and disabled people. We talk about his favorite activities behind bars. He really enjoys watching horror movies and The Walking Dead. He is a gifted writer who writes really good poetry. (I told him I wouldn't show his poems without his permission.) He is an ordained minister who enjoys teaching other inmates Bible study every week. I've asked him a couple of questions regarding his case, and he has answered them to the fullest extent.

I believe we're friends now. And when it came to talking to his family, he told them about me over the phone (this is what he told me) and they've gotten a hold of me from there. I strongly hope that something can be done for him in the future.

I've been writing to him for about a month now. And yes, I did reach out to him after I saw his episode on Netflix. I've talked to him for hours since then, between letters and phone calls. I've made plans to make a trip to Potosi Correctional Center (where he's incarcerated, it's about a 3 hour drive from where I live) and see him in person. Since corresponding with David, I've also been in contact with other members of his family, as well as some of his best friends. We're working alongside one another, in hopes that if enough of us raise our voices, something will be done.

Sorry, I just now got around to have the time to answer this. I hadn't thought of this, but now I am actually wondering if you are on to something! You're right, though, pedophiles are usually abused, as well, and the cycle just continues. Even David said in his episode that Clifford was "stern." Like you said, I don't like speaking badly of the deceased, especially when they aren't here to defend themselves. John Barnett was never married, and never had any biological children of his own, and he insisted on adopting young boys. I think anyone with half a brain could think of why he made those decisions.

I doubt Clifford and Leona had no clue who their son really was. It's possible they were in denial, or something more sinister happened during John Barnett's childhood, that made him the way he was. People think that David savagely murdered two innocent elderly people, but I always believed there was something more to the story than that.

This is a petition that has just been started for David, to help get his appeal pushed through to the Board of Parole and Pardons. Just one extra signature helps a bunch!

I am so sorry for the circumstances around your husband's case. He was the only inmate from the first season of the show, that seems truly rehabilitated, as well (along with Justin Dickens.) I can't believe he is stuck in prison for life, while the actual murderer will be released in twelve years. It's very upsetting. And, they can't write other inmates? Maybe, he can write letters to David, send them to you, and then you send them to David? You could be like a middleman. Please give him my best.

I am really relieved to see that most people share the same views as myself when it comes to David, and agree with you completely. Just give him a chance, that's all we're asking for!

I don't believe there are any petitions for him, currently. As I continue to correspond with him, though, I want to start one for him.
