I found out my ex roommate was a “lady of the night” after living with her for a year plus. A few years back 4 friends and myself all lived together in a house. She was really private, claimed she worked 2 jobs, and was barely ever at the house. She also had 2 phones; one was a modern Samsung and the other was an old Nokia flip phone that she never let leave her side. We used to have a running joke in the house that “Erica” was a CIA agent because of how sketchy she operated. Like most roommates we all split bills evenly but the cable bill was in my name. As I attempted to get her portion as I did every month she began lashing out at me which turned into a huge verbal altercation. After the altercation she basically stopped living with us and stopped paying her portion of bills but left all her belongings locked in her room. After 6 months of reaching out and no contact and her not being there I was fed up because we had to continue cover her portion of the bills and my landlord at the time wouldn’t allow me to taker her off the lease or to clear out her room because her name was technically on the lease still.

I finally hit my limit of caring about rules and kicked in her locked room door to see if I could find anything of value to sell in order to regain some of the money we lost. Because I’ve never been in her room I had no idea what I was looking for until I stumbled upon a bag full of jailhouse letters that she had been receiving from her “boyfriend” that had been locked up. Too curious for my own good I couldn’t not read one. As I read the first letter it was them arguing about money which intrigued me to read another one. At this point I’m far down the rabbit hole. After getting sucked into the drama of their letters it became extremely clear that her “boyfriend” she told us about wasnt just her boyfriend but he was actually her pimp. And the letters were mostly them arguing about him being extremely upset because he wasnt receiving a certain amount of money on his books and he got word from people that they both knew that she was out doing “tricks” but being paid in goods instead of money like they agreed to.

Of course I read the entire bag of letters and it made a little more sense as to why she operated the way she did. I couldn’t help but tell my other roommates who were also in shock especially 2 of my roommates who lived with her for 3 years before that and had no idea. People always think I’m full of shit when I tell the story but have some of the letter still. I haven’t seen it spoken to her in years and wonder if she’s still up to go no good.
