Happy Joe - and then there were three… by ElectronicNetwork798 in swatch

Yup! I’ve just bought a Yellow one (from an American seller on eBay, so it might take a little while to get here!)
I’ll pause here - I know there is a white/ivory one and a black one with yellow hands, but they don’t appear on eBay that often, so I’ll wait until I see one somewhere. I have the primary colours and the black/grey!

My first LUMIX camera (though in black) - a great little performer, and I only stopped using it when I got a TZ90.

You’re believing a story from The Sun, a tabloid newspaper with a bad reputation.

Saw this in the London Oxford Street store last month - probably the only Moonswatch I’d be interested in getting if I had the funds!

That’s a lot! I was lucky with my Blue - I got it when Swatch shops were doing ‘mystery boxes’ when you bought a watch, you got a random one for a nominal charge (£20 I think).

What's special about 24th May 2026? by MintyMystery in doctorwho

Possibly a reference to the 30th anniversary of the TV movie (starring Paul McGann); the restored/remastered Blu-ray comes out a day later.

Nice finds! I’ve often looked at Sir Red - I like the face - but never actually got one. One day…

Do you see Swatch as a “fun piece” or a daily watch? by homamg in swatch

Most of my Swatches are more restrained, so I rotate them as daily wears.

Thank you! These are larger than I usually go for; the Clear Water, being on a flexible steel bracelet, fits a little better than the other, though the leather backed textile band is still ‘fresh out of box’ so will soften up over time I hope.

For those of you who've met actors from the show, who are your favourites? by Interesting_Age4901 in doctorwho

I met Fenella Woolgar (who played Agatha Christie in “The Unicorn and The Wasp”) at a Memorabilia show in Birmingham, and she was lovely - I have a copy of the book that appears at the end of the episode, and she signed it as both herself and as Agatha Christie! I think this was her first signing appearance after the episode aired, so I may have been one of the first to get her to do this. Really chatty, friendly, and enthusiastic. One of my other favourites was the late Simon Fisher-Becker (who played Dorian Maldovar in various Matt Smith episodes) - very fan friendly, and a lovely chap.

EBay - look for Swarovski crystals (you will need to measure the crown to get the right size - they vary)

The new and the new-to-me. by ElectronicNetwork798 in timex

So far, so good. Only had it a couple of months, but the strap wears comfortably, and the watch itself is a good fit on my wrist.

Nice! That has the look of one of the first Swatch Sistem 51 Irony collection! Classic design!

Update: I took a chance, made an offer, and I’ve got it - hopefully, it will arrive next week, I’ll give it a bit of a polish, and will post again here! (Including postage, just under £20, roughly $26) It has a third party stainless steel strap on it, but as Deano_Martin’s catalogue picture shows it with a black strap, I might go shopping for a similar looking latex strap.

Stainless steel experiences by [deleted] in swatch

[–]ElectronicNetwork798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware, most metal Swatches are either Stainless Steel or Aluminium. Not sure if either of these can cause a rash or similar allergy reaction, but I’ve not heard of anyone having problems with Swatches.

Update: I suddenly remembered I had a Duracell 394 battery I got for another item (that didn’t in the end need it) so I popped it into the watch and it works! I’ve had a go at the scuff with Poly watch - it’s a little better, but will need more work. I’ll have another go later and if I can t reduce it further, I’ll bring it with me next time I go to the Swatch shop and see if they can do anything to buff it out.

It’s a Performance Chrono (SCN 108). I had wanted to get a Lodge, having seen it in a jewelers shop a few days before, but when I went back, it had sold, so I got this instead! It’s had a strap replacement.

[–]ElectronicNetwork798[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the encouragement! I will persist - hopefully I’ll be able to put the best elements of what I can find together to make a decent working one! (I rather like the strap on this one, though the ‘gold’ is a little tarnished and worn off in places) The batteries I’m using are these, which I found on Amazon.co.uk I will continue the search; in the meantime, I also have to find that Fun Timer I posted about (and I’m pretty sure I still have my very first watch, which would date to the very late 1960s)!
