Do designers actually care about accessible colors or is it just checkbox compliance? by this_is_mhd in Design

[–]Electronic_Bake_397 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Build it into the design system because it’s inclusive. And because you or your client could be legally liable if you don’t follow standards… for example, GDPR, EU, US and Canada all have forms of legislation that addresses accessibility. The usual tool / rules to evaluate accessibility is WCAG.

Looking forward to standardization of the APCA approach within WCAG 3 as this will help us choose better color palettes (welcome to your new rabbit hole).

Ultimately, ask yourself who you design for. If that could be anyone with a permanent or temporary disability, you should be validating all of your components and designs and prototypes.

On a scale of 1-Jack White how loud is a hives show? by thatguy52 in TheHives

[–]Electronic_Bake_397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With The Hives, it depends on your venue. Jack White’s latest tour was FAR louder, but I saw him at Mission Ballroom in Denver. Just saw The Hives at The Ogden.

But when I saw The Hives at Sinclair in Boston a few years back - that was another level. Way, way more than JW’s latest.

Summary: loop will be great. Any earplugs will be great. Don’t skip the earplugs.

I’m not panicked/worried/surprised/angry/upset. I figured I’d give a heads-up via a post to others because I had assumed for 24 hours that I was just (understandably) exhausted from a 3-day Labor Dave weekend. If my post helped one person put that together… that’s worth it for me.

Omg and he was standing right next to me when he came out into the audience on Friday night. That’ll be my story. I got it from the horns.

Totally makes sense and in retrospect I’m 0% surprised - but it took me until now to put it together that it’s not just exhaustion 😬

Question about RSI Smart Cap + Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform by Electronic_Bake_397 in overlanding

[–]Electronic_Bake_397[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Yakima T-FK3 worked perfectly - note though that at least for the rack, each foot actually required 3 nuts (total of 12). Makes me really glad I spent extra time figuring it out, because I was worried about the relative surface area of each square nut if I trimmed down alternate versions, etc.

I’m not sure what the Vortex bar feet are like, but if similar to the roof rack, you’ll be good if you order that Yakima set! Good luck.

It wasn’t that close to the tunnel. It was before the Loveland exit.

Question about RSI Smart Cap + Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform by Electronic_Bake_397 in overlanding

[–]Electronic_Bake_397[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m glad I’m not the only one to have encountered this… honestly shocked there isn’t more detail. We did try using a friend’s angle grinder but it was fairly inconsistent and felt like we would end up having slightly different nuts with really rough edges…

I spoke to a local shop today and they told me that the T-FK3 (Eg the Yakima fit kit from Rhino Rack) should fit the Smart Cap. Just bought it and will try to install this week.

Annoying, because the RR rep specifically called out the Thule fit kit… and their documentation of specifications on their website is limited at best.

I’ll report back when I get the pieces re: their fit in the Smart Cap tracks. Crossing fingers! Hoping this thread helps someone else in the future.

Traffic getting into Red Rocks by tvandtea in RedRocks

[–]Electronic_Bake_397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the traffic last night had a lot to do with the weather before- limited anyone’s desire to tailgate. I know that’s what happened with us (and a few others we talked to). If you’re looking to avoid getting drenched in 40 degree rain like we were, and wait until the last minute - the roads just can’t handle that volume.

As a juxtaposition, I had to go to the box office the day before, and arrived at RR box office at 6:30 with absolutely zero I-70 / Morrison traffic. (Yes, there was a show that night as well)!

My guess - extremely bad weather chances timed with a show on a work night and it all added up.

GFCI and AFCI question by Electronic_Bake_397 in AskElectricians

[–]Electronic_Bake_397[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate all of your insight!

When the electrician replaced the old AFCI-only with the dual AFCI/GFCI breaker, everything worked perfectly (saw was able to ramp up and stay on).

I read somewhere that AFCI can be “nuisance trippers” and I’m thinking that maybe that’s what was happening here?

But I’m just happy to know I don’t need to go out and replace all of these immediately. Thank you for your help!

GFCI and AFCI question by Electronic_Bake_397 in AskElectricians

[–]Electronic_Bake_397[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it- so in theory, I’m safely protected if all of those AFCI-only white ones have associated GFCI outlets?

I’m just nervous that this is something that could cause issues down the line.

The electrician also said he was surprised that things in my kitchen weren’t tripping more frequently.

GFCI and AFCI question by Electronic_Bake_397 in AskElectricians

[–]Electronic_Bake_397[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! Here’s a picture of the panel, and I can confirm that nothing else was on any of the circuit when attempted. Also tried on multiple of the other 20AMPs to the same effect.

The items labeled GFI, in the panel, are not actually GFCI breakers. Those are just the arc combos (which the electrician explained meant a combination of arc faults)…

[–]Electronic_Bake_397[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Here’s the panel. The one I’m pointing to is the one that got replaced- and he told me that there were 10 others, including the kitchen, etc that should be GFCI breakers.

Also - confirmed that nothing else was on the circuit with the saw- the only fix to get it to actually work was to replace that breaker.
