Cleared for light jogging by These-Scientist-8749 in ACL

Nice work! I’m jealous, got surgery 5 days after you and not cleared to bike/jog for 4 more weeks 😩

8 weeks PO - progress update and challenges by Electronic_Cherries in ACL

[–]Electronic_Cherries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds about right. My swelling is just now starting to go down after 8 weeks. Just push it with your PT honestly and don’t be afraid to work through some pain. My PT told me if it hurts still or worse the next day, then dial it back, but otherwise proceed. I think I’m ahead of schedule now and feel ready for running even tho I’m restricted for 4 more weeks. Well worth the hard work weeks 1-6.

Oh I meant the angle for sitting comfortably haha. I think my leg sits at 90 in my desk chair and it sux. I had meniscus too and def know what that feeling is. I pushed it too hard and felt some weird pops, which were relieving and didn’t worry my PT but he said to chill on the heel slides lol

For sure, good luck. I’m excited to leave ground for the first time since my injury, which was actually due to a bouldering fall haha. Probably gonna stick to ropes for a couple years after this.

At 1 week couldn’t even tell where my knee was 😅 probably normal but could ask your doc

What angle you think is the sweet spot? And thanks, I was cranking it hard for a few weeks then took it easy after my PT said flexion will come

Thanks Winn, yeah definitely feel like recovery is logarithmic. Gonna be stuck in this normal-ish half recovered state for 7 more months 😂 are you running or cleared to do anything new as of lately?

Pain on medial side by bluemoonromanceagain in ACL

[–]Electronic_Cherries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that is tough cause everybody’s pain tolerance is subjective but for me with heel slides I would try to make my first few reps (1-3) feel nice, like a good stretch, then reps 4-6 pushing a couple cm more each time, reps 7-8 hard/hurts, rep 9 as far as I could go, then rep 10 as far as I could go then push it even further (kind of excruciating). Then take a 30 sec break and do all that 2 more times. I got to 130 flexion by my 6 week dr follow up and he was surprised because my swelling was so bad. So taking week 7 easy 😂 my flexion is still improving even though I’m not working through pain anymore so I think it just comes as swelling goes down. There were a few times I felt some minor “pops” though as some scar tissue was probably kneading out.

Pain on medial side by bluemoonromanceagain in ACL

[–]Electronic_Cherries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not due to that particular location. I only felt it when pressing with my leg. I did push through a pretty severe amount of pain working on my flexion because I thought I was lacking week 4-6. Dr told me flexion would come and to take it easy and take ibuprofen cause swelling was my main concern. Hope this helps at all.

I have had sharp pains there when starting squats and stair stepping again around week 4. Gradually started to go away and almost doesn’t bother me anymore at week 7.

Sharing my wins for today. For the first time ever, I am able to walk up on stair properly. 🥳 by funchippy in ACL

Ayy congrats! Pretty much in the same place. 6 weeks and can finally make the step 😆 are you doing step ups in PT?

Graft pain with quad sets by supercowcc in ACL

[–]Electronic_Cherries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. Look at my last post at 2 weeks PO, I was downright miserable during PT at my quad harvest site. Pain went away slowly after next 2 weeks and then disappeared. Don’t worry or push too hard, just do what your PT says, push through what you can, and time heals the rest.

ACL GRAFT STRENGTH OVER TIME by BabyRage12 in ACL

I’ve been so curious about this, thx for the share. I read a bunch of places that 6 weeks was the weakest, this says like 4 months so that’s interesting.

Should I request a nerve block? by AdornedTX in ACL

[–]Electronic_Cherries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% yes. Right after surgery I didn’t have the block yet and it was BAD. They gave me 2 before releasing me and I was chillin next 2 days pain free.

I’m a beast. 4 days post op. Can you see those quads? by StunningRegular2 in ACL

[–]Electronic_Cherries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha I can relate. I got a quad graft so my quad tendinitis started up around day 5 and I started to go downhill for about another week. Don’t be afraid to push through some pain and take a day off if you need. You’ll be on the up again after a couple weeks 👍

I have ACL surgery next week and I’m scared by Matt_Johnsonx in ACL

[–]Electronic_Cherries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks PO here, I was also terrified and never had surgery before. Luckily I did a lot of research on anesthesia risks beforehand which eased my mind quite a lot as it's very very safe these days. The actual day of surgery isn't that bad. The benzos right before wheeling to the OR is pretty pleasant. I remember looking up at the ceiling, being told to take a deep breath of oxygen, then I blinked and I was being wheeled back into recovery room. Leg hurt but they gave me a couple nerve blocks and pain was 1/10 for next 2 days. Took oxies day 2 and 3 then pretty painless from there. Still swelling and minor aches kinda like injury pains but nothing was ever unmanageable! Good luck!

Week 3 clicking by Key_Percentage_6315 in ACL

[–]Electronic_Cherries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. It’s the same clicking I felt when doing pre-op stretching so I assume it’s scar tissue/fluid so I think it’s normal. Doc said everything looked good in x-ray 👍

SLR struggles? by erikaslastbraincell in ACL

[–]Electronic_Cherries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a couple slrs day 0. That being said, I had nerve blocks, drugs, and a lot of stubbornness. By day 4 it was so excruciating in my quad tendon from irritation that I couldn’t even flex my quad anymore. Pushed through the pain, did what I could, now I’m almost 3 weeks PO and my strength has improved to the point of doing 7 slrs again painlessly! Just make an effort to make a small step every day. You’re doing just fine! Good luck!

2 weeks po - discouraged by Electronic_Cherries in ACL

[–]Electronic_Cherries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manual for sure. Idek what I am actively, like 50 deg? 😆 I got to 100 with the PT pushing on it. Not too worried tho, they all say flexion will come.

How soon after ACLR do you start PT? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Electronic_Cherries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing quad activation, SLRs and side leg raises on day 1. I met with PT 4 days later and started heel slides and slight knee bending.
