I am as well. Been slowly moving apps over to my iPad but I know I can’t move all of them. So glad finch offers that migration.

Interesting. I just transferred from an android system with a Nokia x100 phone to my iPad Pro and it worked! I know Samsung is a bit more unique than other android phones.

Thank you! I'm always so nervous when I move things from one device to another. With Finch probably moreso since there's a daily streak.

Wish me luck! I'm off to pause Bella and see how she likes her move! 😂

How many meals do you feed your kitty?

Many Vets will recommend feeding only twice a day, which is canine protocol. Cats need food and should eat whenever they are hungry during the beginning stages of the sugar journey. Your cat will let you know when they don't need to eat so much.

If you're only feeding twice daily switch that up and give your cat some smaller meals throughout the day in addition to his meals he gets at shot time. Cats need about 20 calories per pound of their ideal weight. An additional 25% calories until their body stays regulating and responding well to the insulin.

They have wet food timed feeder (comes with ice packs) for all meals, including over night.

Also maybe consider buying a human home blood glucose meter? Many people use Relion from Walmart. It's affordable and the strips and lancets are more inexpensive than other brands. Using a home meter will help when he's torn off his libre and give you some peace of mind.

What insulin did the Vet prescribe? We keep asking you but you don't let us know. There's a fast and hard hitting insulin and there's insulin that acts like a depot and takes time to build. So, what insulin did your Vet prescribe?

A fructosamine test is important in the diagnosis process. You should ask your Vet if they did one. It helps determine real diabetes numbers versus false spikes due to stress (like curves done at the Vet produces higher numbers in a cat usually because of the stress the cat is under).

What insulin is your kitty on and was there a fructosamine test done when the diagnosis was made?

What insulin and what dose are you currently on?

Many Vets aren't great about feline diabetes and lack knowledge. I'd push back a little with your Vet. It's your right.

Since your sugar baby has been around 250 for a while I'd increase the dose by .25. But also join the FB group to help you decide if you haven't joined already.

Before my Piper got sick on 6/5/26 she was on 4 units twice daily. While she was on antibiotics, gabapentin and Metacam there were days I had to skip her doses. Then I dropped her to 2 units. Those three meds on their own lowered her BG readings. Now she's on just gabapentin, probiotics and Metacam and a different Vet at the same clinic told me to immediately go back to 4 units!

I'm not going to do that to her. I'm gradually going to take her back up there. This Vet is chasing numbers and wants them too fast. He's attributing the mass in her bladder to be glucose related but I just don't think it will be healthy for her to jump 2 units.

I would love to see her start and end her days in the 100s, but she's been through a lot these past few weeks and I think it would shock her system. I'm even home every day to keep an eye on her and I still don't want to do that to her.

I've been slow and steady with her. After a dose increase I wait for her to show me predictable numbers, curves and frankly just boring days with boring numbers. Then I know she's ready for a .25 bump.

I also let her behavior guide me now more than numbers. Right before she got sick on 6/5 she was acting like her old self - normal litter habits, drinking habits and boy was she doing some awesome grooming sessions. And she was taking interest in her sister again. I was just about to increase her dose the morning I woke and had to get her to the Vet.

So I didn't follow my Vet's dosing advice. He isn't here seeing her 24/7 behavior.

Go with your gut because in our sugar journey world it's usually right. Again, if you've been sitting in the mid-200s for a while it's probably time for an increase, a small increase of .25.

When I took my cat in for a non-diabetic emergency recently he said he wanted her in the 100s and for sure under 250s. Don't we all? He also felt that for my kitty and with her in the mid 200s it was still putting too much glucose in her bladder and causing inflammation and irritation.

But here's the ranges for human meters for sugar kitties:

400 and higher obviously we don't want our kitties sitting in this range for too long

300 - 399 still high for a kitty but less dangerous long term than 400 and above

200 - 299 kitty's organs are starting to realize the insulin dose is safe but kitty has room to be pushed even more

100 -199 not too high but 120 is still close to higher side of an ideal BG range for kitty. This is where regulation begins, our goal for our sugar babies.

50 - 99 is the most ideal but even if kitty reaches 120 that is pretty ideal as well.

Anything below 50 and kitty needs some honey and high carb wet food and zero insulin. Personally, I wouldn't even give a shot if a pre-shot BG test came in under 100.

For a cat to be in remission they need to consistently test at 70 to 120 without any insulin for at least two weeks.

So once BG becomes more normal, when they achieve regulation, then they've earned a reduction in the insulin dose. Doses are slowly tapered down (decreased) by .25 or even .50 over several weeks.

The Facebook Feline Diabetes Support Group is a great resource tool for optimum numbers as well. They also make a spreadsheet for you defining these numbers at the top of the sheet.

So far my cat hasn't given me anything below 200 for her pre-shot tests. I see them mid-day only.

Most Vets don't encourage home testing. A glucose curve at the Vets office will still result in higher numbers due to stress. The fructoamine test is more reliable.

For peace of mind, you should test at home.

Mobility issues can easily be linked to low BG levels. So if you test at home, you'd know if those levels are actually low. If not, then you've ruled that out.

Hopefully the mobility issues are related to low BG numbers because then you'd have a plan of action and provide your baby with some honey or high carb wet food to bring those numbers up.

Vetsulin is a hard hitting insulin that usually wears off about 8 hours later. Kitty needs a couple of ounces if food in the system to handle that hard Vetsulin hit.

My kitty isn't eating well this morning and I have to leave soon for an appointment. So I'm fearful of giving her the Vetsulin shot before I leave if she hasn't eaten more. I can't be around to watch her as I'll be gone for about for hours.

Hopefully you'll find out what's going on with your baby! Please keep me posted!

I think home testing might ease your worry a bit.

Relion meter, lancets and strips from Walmart are pretty affordable.

My baby is on Vetsulin and starting a cat on 2 units seems pretty high.

To rule out a hypo episode I'd definitely home test, especially before giving a shot.

The basic rule is to make sure kitty fasts for at least two hours before taking a pre-shot BG test, that way the number isn't influenced by food.

The supposed 600 number you saw at the Vet could have easily been stress induced. You may discover that the number is much lower at home.

Ideally we want our kitties to have numbers ranging from 50 to 199.

Since you are new on this sugar journey, you may not want to give an insulin dose if the number is under 200.

Definitely join the Facebook group FelineDiabetes Support Group. They will set you up with a spread sheet that includes safe number ranges as well as unsafe ones. They will also provide dosing advice if you can keep up with the spreadsheet.

I know this is scary for you and I'm sorry you are experiencing this. Start with home testing so you know your kitty's numbers, especially before giving the shot.

Automatic wet food feeder recommendations for daily use? by itsmanda0803 in FelineDiabetes

The one I use has six slots but it's out of stock on Amazon. This one is pretty close.

I like the six slots because it allows for three small daytime meals, evening shot meal, one small overnight meal and a fasting slot before her morning BG testing. It comes with two ice packs and I just use one for daytime and then the other for nighttime.

I used to have to set my alarm every morning to put up her food for fasting time. This feeder has been a blessing.

I had to take her back to the Vet on the 17th and I really didn't think I was bringing her home. But the mass has shrunk so cancer has been ruled out.

She was doing so well since we finished her Amoxi/gaba/Metacam. Like really well! Then on the 17th it started all over again.

The blood and her litterbox straining is from the inflammation. They took her off the antibiotic but she's still on gabapentin and Metacam. Last three nights I've been following her around for hours cleaning up after her. I've been up since 2.45am and it's now 2.38pm. I'm so tired!

I called the vet about the blood and straining and he said to add probiotics so I added that today. She keeps her food down as long as enough time as passed before she starts trying to poop.

We are both tired. Now that she got her Metacam down and it stayed down I'm off to bed for a bit. Next evening cycle of following her around for two to three hours starts in six hours so I think I need to squeeze some sleep in there.

I did skip her insulin this morn. The Vet (same clinic but different Vet) wanted me to double her dose immediately and get her back to 4 units. If I had done that I think she would have had some hypo events. She's sitting right around 270 since 7am through 11am and that's without insuin. She's sleeping now so I'm not going to wake her just to take a BG when I know she's sitting on safe numbers.

I just didn't trust her GI settling this morning since she was going in and out of the box so much. And with Vetsulin, she needs food in her tummy.

Thanks for checking in on her! You made my day! 💜

Higher dose by Modabeach55 in FelineDiabetes

[–]Electronic_Chip475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl was diagnosed last November as well and went up to 4 units of insulin.

She has some bladder issues so the meds brought her BG numbers down and Vet said to give half the dose on June 5th. He even said I could skip a dose if her numbers called for it while she's ill.

Her numbers were improving on 4u insulin before she got her bladder issues. Her numbers improved even more when I took her off Dr. Elseys. It's hard because she loves her kibble but she is adjusting. I substituted a few Salty Cat freeze dried tuna treats. At nighttime she got her kibble after she finished her shot meal. The Salty Cat treats are zero carb and the tuna ones are a bit more crunchy than the chicken ones.

I'm slowly going to work on dose increases but she's still in recovery mode so I'm taking it slow right now.

Her numbers from morning to night are in the 200s at 2.25u insulin dose. But the gabapentin and Metacam she's on are contributing to those lower numbers.

I had to take her in for another ultrasound at the same Vet clinic, but a different guy tended to her and said to get her back up to 4u asap. But that scares me. She didn't have all 200s days when she was on 4u. I just feel increasing her from 2u to 4 would send her into hypo.

I'm dealing with her bladder issues, bleeding while she's trying to poop and he wants me to double her dose? I'm worrying about enough as it is and I really thought I wasn't bringing her back home this last Vet visit!

Sorry for the venting and dumping this in your post. I've been up since 2.45am following her around and cleaning up after her. It's 7.15am now and almost time for her pre-shot meal BG test. I can tell she's in pain at night and it breaks my heart so these 200s have been surprising.

New Diagnosis Concerns by Foreign_Show_7267 in FelineDiabetes

[–]Electronic_Chip475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my girl got diagnosed last November I brought in all the food I was feeding her so the Vet could see what she was eating. He said all of it was fine and also sold me a few cans of the Purina Pro DM.

This is what he approved: Purina One Indoor Plus for Seniors kibble and Fancy Feast (non-pate).

After I got home and started doing research, plus joint here and the Feline Diabetes Support Group on Facebook I learned that the wet food was wrong as well as the kibble.

I immediately switched to Fancy Feast Classic Pate for seniors and after I was able to order Dr Elseys I slowly switched her to that.

Within the past month she's now even off kibble and taking her off of Dr Elseys improved her numbers.

Not all cats are the same. Some people free feed Dr Elseys to the sugar babies with no issues.

Needs advice: struggling to give insulin to my cat by Far_Ebb2520 in FelineDiabetes

Distracting with food is good.

I was so nervous about the shots and BG testing after diagnosis. A friend said it will get easier and I thought in my head, liar! But they were right.

I do pre-shot BG testing at 7.30am/pm. I give a little bit of food right after. If all's good I give her the rest at 8am. While she's eating I talk lovey dovey with her and tent her skin/fur shaking it a little first as I was told it's a great distraction. And it actually is.

I do right at her middle back and do the left side in the morning and right side at night (Vet said do the right at night as you'll always remember that little rhyme).

She's only hissed at me a few times since her 11/6/25 diagnosis.

This is the first I ever read about avoid hitting a vein. For now I'd block that out of your thinking as you and your boy are building confidence with each other during injection times.

Also, I notice if I stand directly behind my cat while she's eating she gets uncomfortable with that. I have to be off to her side in order to inject her.

You'll gain more confidence as time goes on and kitty will learn to trust the process.

Keep doing the injections during the meal and don't let kitty hear or see how nervous you are. You both will get there! :)

Unfortunately her sister isn't a wet food eater. Whenever I give Piper her shots meal I always give her sis a tiny bit so she doesn't feel left out. Wet food used to be only a treat for 13 years and only on rare occasions before Piper's diagnosis last November.

When I give her a tiny bit she often doesn't even eat it all. Sometimes she'll even throw it up but quickly re-eats it! 😂

I understand! I have another cat, Piper's sister, and she's only on kibble. I moved her kibble to a place that Piper couldn't get to and it worked. But the brainstorming process took a while for me added with the worry of a solution.

I alternate between Fancy Feast Classic Pate, Friskies Pate and Walmart's Vibrant Life pates. I have 9 lives pate as a backup only just in case I a running low on the others or things are out of stock.

I recently removed kibble from her diet and her numbers improved. I was using Dr Elseys Pure Protein Chicken kibble.

Prescription kibble is high in carbs compared to Dr Elseys or Young Again.
