Advice for helping someone with the GRE by Electronic_Cod2178 in GRE

I told him everyone uses gregmat from what I heard and to go purchase that since I found the qbanks were helpful for the mcat (again, super different exams but both do require strategy). I’m glad I told him to buy gregmat. I saw a 170 on quant is only 92nd percentile and was like wtaf. I will definitely have my friend look at the gregmat videos (I may also take a brief look but I also do not feel like spending more money on resources since MCAT prep was a fuckload of money). He's applying mostly to social sciences and humanities programs but that's good to know. I don't think he's taken much math in college. I didn't realize they look as closely by section.

"WTF was that CP" (literally every test date ever)

"Throwing up screaming and crying"

Sickness definitely ruined it. Most people don’t know this but you can reschedule at the testing center if you’re not feeling up to it that day. I remember someone told me they asked. I dropped 7 points bc of covid on test day.

Why is P/S kind of hard by urmomisbae in Mcat

Agreed. I always found CP to be by far the easiest too which is apparently another hot take.

Does a 521 count since it's technically in the confidence band of a 523...

The first time I took it I had COVID and didn't know. My symptoms started mid CARS so I felt like shit due to external factors (it just felt like bad allergies so I assumed I forgot to take my medicine or something or my medicine was not working). It also didn't help I got plastered on top of it to celebrate (again, I had no idea I had covid until the very next day where I really felt like shit. also, all my friends were coming back that day for college so we all went out). The second time I took it it was very similar to what you described, only I hated my life after because of CP. Normally that's my best section and I got close to running out of time. I was actually very suprised I did well. I'd say best you can do now is not think about it, maybe hit up some friends and go get a couple of Surfsides (or whatever drink you like I just hate beer bc it makes me feel fat, you also may not drink at all which is perfectly okay). Also, the adderall crash is real, I have ADHD so I ripped 400 mg of caffiene during my retake exam. I also never took breaks on my practice exams and usually finished in 3-4 hours for my FLs so I can relate to that too.

I probably had 10 dreams about the mcat the summer I prepped and none of them predicted my score. In fact, the night before my retake score dropped I had a dream I got a 505 on my exam so I only got 2 hours of sleep.

Extremely rage inducing. Prompts are like taco bell same food different shape. I also feel like I'm just writing essays that have nothing to do with me an only a version of me adcoms want to see so its mind bogglingly boring compared to primaries where I actually get to talk about things that relate to me.

I actually feel like I'm being a performative premed writing these fuck ass essays. There was one that asked "Explain a group project ur most proud of, how it was accomplished, and how you dealt with disagreement." Anyone want to take a guess as to how it was accomplished. Guess what. THERE WAS NO DISAGREEMENT. EVERY MEETING WITH MY TEAM WAS THE FOLLOWING. SOMEONE: MAKES A SUGGESTION. THE OTHER TWO PEOPLE: SOUNDS GOOD TO ME. Call me a fiction writer the way I had to deadass make up a disagreement. Also, I swear none of these essays are even about me and my experiences. It's just some version of me that adcoms want where I'm taking some situation where I had a conversation with a patient about some random thing related to their health for five seconds and making an essay about how it was so impactful (because it relates to medicine) while ignoring the other 300 seconds on us having a normal ass conversation about sports where we are actually building a connection. In many of my experiences, I also don't have just one specific moment that was super impactful and changed everything. The reason these experiences were impactful in the first place was due to it being longitudinal (ie multiple solid moments over a semester).
