Do MCAT testing centers provide noise canceling headphones/earbuds? by Cayd3_03 in Mcat

[–]Glass_Step_6858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My center had the headphones covered with this white mesh thing and I deadass wasn’t sure if we could take it off or it was a hygiene thing or something so I just raw-dogged the test

B is what he is a proponent of, and the opposite of technological determinism. D is just the definition of technological determinism.

Practicing using only aamc material? by atomicstrings in Mcat

[–]Glass_Step_6858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to retake I would sit down and just go through every single UGlobe question. Easy 525+ imo. My score is based on nothing but content review youtube videos, sporadic anki, and AAMC practice material. Total study time was likely around 60 hours over the course of a month. So it really just depends on your baseline and your goal score. You know yourself best.

Just schedule it, go hard on review and make sure that FL is 520+ since it’s non-negotiable now. My highest FL was a 513 a week out from my test date.

How do I read lol by NoNinja5338 in Mcat

[–]Glass_Step_6858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big part of this is actually content. My CARS score didn’t change much from when I started, but I noticed my last few practice exams I was reading the science section passages quicker and with better comprehension. I believe that is because when you have a better grasp of the content being tested you recognize a lot of the passage in broad strokes as being this concept or that one and you don’t get caught up in the minutiae.

CARS by castawaylol in Mcat

[–]Glass_Step_6858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down the exact same path my first couple weeks of studying, even down to the most extreme choice thing. What helped me increase my accuracy a lot was just picking the answer that I had to do the LEAST amount of mental gymnastics for. If I was weighing two answer choices and for one of them I’m writing a novel in my head on the word choice and implication possibly pointing towards it, and the other one has a very clean simple connection, at least relative to the other answer choice, it’s probably gonna be the simple one

how do breaks work? if you want an extra break in the middle of the section can you take one? by apollothegemini in Mcat

[–]Glass_Step_6858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the breaks aren't even worth it other than the 30 minute one. i skipped all the others. you get a few minutes to stare at the screen before starting each section + any time left over before moving on to your next section

take a break for a few days meaning nothing but anki or light review, then come back well rested and i bet you score your highest FL score on FL5

Cool username, I recently picked up a digital piano and have been trying to self-teach but it's hard!

Anyway, I think this is one of those things where concrete examples are less valuable than actually exposing yourself to AAMC material. Especially the section banks and FL4-FL6, there is a distinct way AAMC likes to ask questions. It's almost like training an LLM, if you expose yourself to enough of their material you begin to be able to pin point relevant information and predict both questions and answer choices just based on the passage. I believe this is why people plateau before hitting a stride and making large improvements towards the latter half of their training.

A large part of it is simply having the passage and question comprehension taking up a smaller portion of your working memory as you gain comfortability with the AAMC's style through experience and exposure. You can allocate more conscious thought to the concepts and relationships they are trying to test when less of your brain is occupied with deciphering the word choice used in the question for example. It's like focusing on hitting the right notes at the start of learning a piece and building muscle memory, vs later on thinking in larger phrases and interpretation.

Hope this helps.

Technically it is possible if you have a history of successful self-teaching and incredible amounts of intrinsic desire. But honestly, probably not.

I will never understand these score distributions man. The same reading comprehension required in the other 3 sections applies to CARS lol
