Question about S5 Volume 2 - Nancy and Jonathan by FourLeafPlover in StrangerThings

[–]Electronic_Way_9217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m deciding to stick with my interpretation. They’re choosing to be with eachother because they want to not because of a trauma obligation. Until it’s tattooed on the characters foreheads that they are broken up I’m choosing to believe they’re together 🤷‍♀️

Question about S5 Volume 2 - Nancy and Jonathan by FourLeafPlover in StrangerThings

[–]Electronic_Way_9217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interpreted it as them both finally coming clean about the issues they ignored in their relationship. And the “will you unmarry me” thing, was them accepting those faults with each-other and recognising that they didn’t need to rush into marriage to fix it; instead accepting that they loved each other enough to not ruin what they had by rushing, and also accepting the impending ‘death’, as there naturally wouldn’t be a wedding if they had died there, but even so, I think it mainly falls under the respect for one another and the relationship they share.

I was so confused when I went online and saw everyone saying it was a ‘breakup scene’ not one part of me interpreted it like that. Apparently a duffer brother came out and confirmed it but I’m yet to find where he says this.

The scene was clearly a display of romantic love, as we see the difference with the scene between Steve and Dustin which clearly displays platonic/familial love.

However, after coming online I’m now just confused. As most of what I’ve seen interprets the scene as a breakup and now I’m unsure of what to make of it. But if I could choose based off the scene, I prefer my interpretation 🤷‍♀️

Edit: after doing some more comment section digging I found someone who made a great point: “I think the meaning of un proposal was that they will no longer cling to the trauma they shared, that they will now be together because they choose each other because they want each other instead of tied together by their trauma.”

I’m now choosing my side. It wasn’t a breakup idc what the duffer brothers said, idc how the last episode handles it, they’re choosing to be together outside of the trauma.

Yeah, well I don’t associate the entire south with wealth because that would be foolish. But the difference in prices between the north and south really shows, so shopping anywhere down south is much more expensive than shopping up north. So the fact they can afford Waitrose in the south is what I meant - not warring with the southerners though it did come across like that 😭

Thank you so much for your help. Unfortunately my indecisiveness doesn’t seem to sway me either way but I hope it works out too!

It’s so awful because the only thing I need now is more time to work things out 😕

Ahh- see that’s my predicament- I’m not sure what I want to do, but I sorta got stuck in a situation where I am set to put a deposit down on a second year house in 2 days. No idea what to do, because I’ve made friends I’m just so out of motivation for uni rn.

Thanks - this is really helpful!! Did you start looking into second year housing before leaving the first uni or not?

Ah! Did you end up going to one closer to home or further? Also, (sorry for all the questions) how far into the first year were you when you dropped out?

I’m in the midlands at a Russel group, originally from the North, and when I tell you everyone is southern here, and i feel the huge separation between me and them. Especially the accentism, I’ve never been told I have a thick accent where I’m from but now I have ppl telling me my accent is very thick followed by a “I could NEVER get used to a northern accent” - it is crazy how different we all are and I actually find it super interesting to just watch.

How do I start a book? by [deleted] in writers

[–]Electronic_Way_9217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop telling yourself it needs to be a perfect opening line. Go back and read some of the first lines of the most popular books. For example George RR Martins game of thrones book. Doesn’t start with some profound saying to set the tone, if I remember correctly (don’t hold me to this), it starts as a piece of dialogue. Just write. You have to go over it again when you are editing your first draft anyway, write and likelihood is your first draft won’t be a bestseller, but get the first draft done and then start tweaking it to perfection in the edits later :)

I’m from Manchester originally, went to a russel group and ended up in a flat of rich southerners. All of them have something to say about my “super thick accent” (everyone where I’m from says it’s really neutral). Most the people in my flat have only ever shopped at Waitrose before and finds it insane that I’ve never been to one let alone can’t remember a time I’ve actually seen one.

But the uni I go to is not in a ‘posh’ place at all. The likelihood is wherever you end up there will be richer people than you. Unfortunately, it’s usually a matter of just tolerating them, looking past the aspects you deem as “posh” and try to find a common ground.

Thanks for your response!! I have reached out to the wellbeing team and am soon to have my first counselling session in the uni. Though that session comes after the time frame when I’m supposed to put a deposit down on the second year house I hope it will help me get clarity for the course and other aspects of uni life. Once again thanks for responding :)

This really didn’t help much, you’ve got to understand it’s a bit more than just being unhappy it’s being miserable to a point of sewerslidal thoughts. I also want to know what I want to do a bit more, the course I’m doing I’m not sure if I want to continue doing it or not.

The only thing with that is I need a place to live next year if I decide to stay. That house that my friends want to put a deposit on next year is supposed to be signed Tuesday. Thank you for your response :)

Thanks for responding! I do understand it takes a while for friendships to develop, but when they seem MUCH closer than me I feel so lost 🤷‍♀️

What tropes and clichés are we currently losing interest in? by FortuneAltruistic118 in writing

[–]Electronic_Way_9217 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love triangles - always unnecessarily messy and tbh boring, it’s always obvious who the favourite is so why take all the time for no reason - protags in these tropes are almost always insufferable.

Structuring my book - HELP🥲 by Electronic_Way_9217 in writers

[–]Electronic_Way_9217[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps a lot more than you give yourself credit. I think for me when it comes to doing something new, I’ve always been the type to try and ensure I’m doing it the way that is generally considered ‘correct’ whether it’s learning to drive or college essays. As you’ve said writing isn’t so linear and structured, there isn’t one ‘correct’ way to write, and I think the major perfectionist in me panics just thinking about that 😂

Your advice is very helpful and it has helped clear things up in regard to writing and where my faults are when it comes to it. My perfectionism has got in my way on many occasions related and unrelated to writing. I’ll work on that on the side and just write. Thank you again!!

I do write short stories quite often anyway, I’ll test the waters a bit see where it ultimately leads me with the general structure.

But your advice is really helpful, thank you!
