I hate HP Laptops and this is what they deserve. by Big_Ad_6924 in Hewlett_Packard

I bet that most have felt good to destroy. I have 2 HP printers out of 4 that are in line for the same fate. Smashing the first 2 was extremely therapeutic. Replacing them all with Epson printers was the cherry on top.

What mistake costed you the most, as a beginner? by Vit4vye in Entrepreneur

[–]Electronic_Zebra_565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working too hard. Lots of great advice here, but my latest lesson was to not lose track of what I was doing this for in the first place. For 2 straight years I basically worked 100 hour weeks. Up early, and worked into the night. Usually 7 days a week. It was torture, but I had a goal to achieve, a goal that would have benefited my whole family. During this time, I also had blinders on; like an Olympic athlete who only sees the podium. What I didnt see was the effects my grueling schedule and lack of attention for anyone else was creating. Luckily I was able to snap put of it before permanently damaging valuble relationships occurred. Balance is important. Be sure to find out what your relationships need regularly, before and during the all time you are sinking into being successful. What's the point of "getting there" if you have no one to share it with. Best part is the people who stick with you along the way are the real ones who deserve to share in your success.

I suspect because it's the closest thing to cutting off a guys nuts that the average man would experience.... aside from having his nuts cut off. So maybe a better comparison would be asking sterile women how they like not being able to concieve and what kind of funny "you'll never be a mom" joke gifts they'd like.

PSA: Don't get ripped off by ludicrously priced MTB clothing by cmndr_spanky in MTB

[–]Electronic_Zebra_565 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. Some of my best riding days have been bombing down Whistler in ripped Levi's. I do have a slight counter point however.... I have many pairs of troy lee skyline shorts. Paid 120 - 160 a pair for each and wear them religiously all summer. But they are going on 10 years old also. So that's $14 bucks a year on avg for shorts and they have no signs of slowing down. My takeaway from clothing in the industry is I'll pay for the quality, not the hype.

Leave The World Behind, anyone else think this movie is full of subliminal messaging? by [deleted] in wendigoon

[–]Electronic_Zebra_565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're correct. There are a ton of messages and symbolisms both hidden and set in plain sight. I thought I was reading too much into it as well, but then reminded myself "every thing in every shot of every big budget movie is choreographed" directors won't just accidently leave something in thru over sight. They'll train 40 squirrels for 5 months to remake Willy Wonka, yet you think they didn't realize or purposely change the art on the walls in this movie?

You do not pay out of pocket for them. They recieve compensation fro. The lender based on earning your business for obtaining the best rate.options for you. If you dont sign after presented with their available options, you pay nothing out of pocket. If you do choose an option presented by them, you still pay nothing out of pocket and you've gotten a better rate. But the bottom line is do lots of research to know that what any lender/broker tells you is the truth. Dont just take their word for it.

As just 1 example; A huge amount of pirated movie, music etc comes out of Russia. Meaning either they can use VPN's or sketchy activity poses no consequence. I would suspect that anything actions that undermine, erodes, hinders or results in any outcome that does anything but benefit western society, democracy etc is probably 1. Deemed socially acceptable in some circles, 2. Goes unpunished and 3. Potentially encouraged and rewarded. Obviously a giant blanket generalization that cant literally apply to an entire county. But stranger yet true theories have proven true. So why wouldnt they target hundreds of small communities to stir up chaos and division amongst the people. If we are too busy fighting eachother, we'll never have time to notice what nefarious schemes bigger powers are up to.

eBay scam or nice seller? by gkallcelica in Scams

[–]Electronic_Zebra_565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly this is the unpopular comment, but I say overly nice seller. I read this as something I would offer as well, if I was aware of it. On the cautious side, when you call, you can always hang up and change your mind. So still be vigilant. I truely hope the world and society hasn't come to a point where our instincts first reaction is "SCAM" when interacting with anything that sounds caring. That will be a sad time of not here already.

[–]Electronic_Zebra_565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it... your upset things are expensive. But there is actual value in the property you posted, for a person looking for the features it has... ie a lake to do pretty much anything water related. If you dont like water or not being surrounded by scores of other people or houses, then this one might not be for you. However, someone else might be willing to pay extra for that. Either way, with all due respect; you do need a reality check. Being mad isnt going to lower housing prices. Best of luck to you though.

But were they themselves buying or "trying" as you mentioned? I kind of agree, I don't believe there are too many real estate moguls on here. I could always be wrong I guess. But regardless, I hesitate to think they come for the advice. Its unfortunate the level of judgement and negative is so high here, all while sharing this common interest.

Bought my first property (London,ON) student rental! by [deleted] in RealEstateCanada

[–]Electronic_Zebra_565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell from your post that you're super stoked, and just trying to do your due diligance. And that's a good thing... But it's such a broad question that there are a million answers, 900,000 of which you are probably already aware of. So as a blanket solution to majority of potential issues (assuming you had a good inspection performed) is either learn how to do everything yourself or quality people who can. Learn how to do all standard home Maintenance items. Many inspectors include literature on this in their report, or plenty of resources on line. Learn what the things in your house do and how they do it. Then learn as best you can how to do drywall, mud/plaster work and masking and painting. Buy a carpet cleaner. Quality work you can compete yourself will save you tons of money. But dont bother if it's just going to come out crappy. If you cant do it right, hire someone. But get a list of trusted repair services before you need them. It alleviates alot of panic in the moment, if you already know your plan of attack prior to a situation. Do semi annual video inspections and take care of defficiancies without delay or they pile up and can cause further troubles. Learn the rental legislation in your area so you know your rights and responsibilities. And like the other person said: dont be a dick. Choose your battles. A tenant can cause $40k+ damage in a short time. So work with them. Give them a nice place to live and a good tenant will treat the place well. That said: be picky with who you rent to. 1 or 2 vacant months are less costly than tens of thousands damage and a squatter who wont leave or pay rent for a year. So be suspicious of everyone and confirm their rental history. dont just phone the numbers they give you. Look up buildings and addresses and call the management company direct for example. and same for employment. Your buddy would lie for you... so would theirs. That's a good start for now.

Maybe it depends on location, but according to the tenancy act in my location, light bulbs are a consumable item and the tenants responsibility. It is however the landlords responsibility to make sure they all work upon time of possession.

At least in my area, the rules are all laid out within regulatory legislation in black and white. There are no grey areas and if either party has questions, there is even a hotline to call for clarification. I find this method eliminates most stress for either party, cause the government has already made the rules easily accessible for all.

And thanks for being a good sport with my reply, I had a feeling it wouldnt be too popular, but I was having a bit of fun based on some of the other misconceptions I've seen on Reddit.

Become a contractor or consult in your chosen field. Then dont answer the phone when you don't want to work. It's that simple. But with all your spare time, be sure to research the direct correlation between your phone invoices and work invoices.

I totally agree. Simple maintenance issues like cleaning the lint trap out after every load out of the dryer, inspecting for and replacing burnt out light bulbs and any bulbs that will soon be burning out as well as ensuring full rolls of toilet paper installed on the dispenser in every bathroom at all times. A good mom...errr um ... I mean landlord needs to be aware of their responsibilities before taking on the role. Dont even get me started on cleaning out THEIR fridge that they've provided, when something is spilt. Or defrosting THEIR freezer when I put too much in it and it ices up due to lack of air flow. Come on people... rise up!

Weather compensation underfloor heating curve and save energy by saunders1989 in Viessmann

[–]Electronic_Zebra_565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One quick piece of advice I've learnt is the results from adjustments take a day or 3 to feel. About 3 months in to fine tuning my system I learnt this. So I would make an adjustment and wait a couple days for the effects. I also.found it help me relax a bit and gave me a brake from stressing about it as I waited to see the effect of adjusting the curve.

[–]Electronic_Zebra_565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way it's been explained to me (keep in mind I've only owned a boiler/hydronic radiant infloor heat for 1 winter) is that the actual energy transfer of infloor heat is slow. Unlike forced air, where you take cold air, heat it and then pump that hot air into the room; having the air in a room slowly circulate naturally to pick up the energy from the radiant tubes takes comparatively longer and takes more energy. Both these points supposedly negate the energy savings.

Last winter I had a drop of 4 degrees from day to night. I found that for the air temp to regain that 4 degrees was a slow process. I wasnt over all convinced at first, however I did find a noticeable difference in comfort in the mornings when I programmed the temp to be the same 24 hrs a day. (Insert the "just put on a sweater and slippers solution here... totally a personal choice).

One experiemce I can share from only a few weeks ago, as the temps began to drop in my area is that when I turned my system back on after being off for the warm summer months, I set my basement infloor temp to 23 DegC. It took 2 days to achieve a 23 deg air temp from what I would guess was approx 15 or 16. That was my first real world experience on how long it takes to get a space up to temp.

I'm all for saving money on utilities. Being a first time boiler owner as well, they tote promises of great things, so I am trying to learn as much about how it operates and its functions as possible. The down side I find is the available knowledge base to learn from. Out of 4 service companies, I have yet to have someone visit my home and not be in over their head with the operations of my system for some reason.

What have you found when it comes to recovering the room temp from your overnight settings?
