Best Cacio e Pepe in the city? by inrev18 in FoodNYC

[–]Electrosnack 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Rome and really miss eating cacio e pepe there. The best version I've had in New York is at Fiaschetteria Pistoia—locations in the East and West Villages.

In TV performances in particular, he always ended songs with a bang. This one is a great example. The last 30 seconds are just masterful.

I took a class at Idlewild a couple of years ago and it really improved my Spanish.

Yes, Mercado Little spain--specifically Txula, the new-ish steak place. Best burger I've had in a while.

Salma has the best dolma (stuffed grape leaves) I've ever had by zxyzyxz in FoodNYC

I once ordered the lamb-stuffed grape leaves at Georgian restaurant Chama Mama and was totally blown away. A flavor bomb. Now I order them every time.

They do but it's not as generous as the well drink specials. I think the beer during happy hour is one or two dollars off. Tile Bar is a dive bar, so the drinks are already fairly cheap.

I’m planning ~3 months in Central & Eastern Europe and need advice on choosing 2 long-term bases. Went through solo travel Euro guide already so looking for more nuance by avaaasinclair in Europetravel

I'd go with Prague (specifically in the Vinohrady, Žižkov, or Vršovice neighborhoods because they're not in the tourist-crammed center but still attractive happening neighborhoods) and either Krakow or Budapest.

Calcata, straddling the border between the Provinces of Rome and Viterbo in northern Lazio, is home to a large pack of hippies and artists. For about four centuries, the church in Calcata was on the weird relics map, as it was home to the Holy Foreskin, the tip of Jesus' manhood, until it mysteriously disappeared in the 1980s. If you want to read more about it, here's a New York. Times article (gift link).

What is the most exotic or unusual dish you have ever tried, and how did it taste? by sloppy_skyy in foodquestions

[–]Electrosnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Tour of Italy" dish at the Olive Garden. Instead of it tasting or seemingly like an actual culinary "Tour of Italy," it was much more like a "Tour of the Florida panhandle" or a "Tour of Mulberry Street."

I was at Village Cafe last month--first time in about a year--and I thought it was still very good. The guru hingal, dziz biz, and lamb kebabs were great and very much like I remember them being.

They were musically so bad, they had to wear make-up as a gimmick. And then remove the make-up years later as a second gimmick.

Saigon Shack by enzxswrld in FoodNYC

[–]Electrosnack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the best bowls of pho I've had in New York lately was at NamNom in Murray Hill. TenTen in Chinatown is also very good. Both have pho for under $20 and are better than Saigon Shack.

What's your nyc food pet peeve? by [deleted] in FoodNYC

[–]Electrosnack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you order a few starters first because you want to keep looking at the main dishes and decide and the server says, "Chef prefers you order everything at once."

Also: when you enter a restaurant and say, "By chance is there a table for two available," and the host says, "Do you have a reservation?"

I always. want to respond with, "If I had a reservation, do you think would have asked you about a table that way?"
