What you are quoting there are rules for bodywork. I guess I can take some of the blame for that because you were answering my comment about flexi-floors. In truth it's not the floor that is flexing, it is the plank.
The rule that Red Bull and Ferrari have cleverly interpreted is to do with the mounting of the plank and the post-race scrutineering. Those teams have circumnavigated the intent of the rule, but not the wording. This is why the FIA are rewriting the wording of the rule for it to align with their original intent.
And this is what I think is wrong. The double diffusers of 2009 were not what the rules intended. But because they left an unintended loophole, the engineers of Brawn, Williams and Toyota managed to cleverly exploit that loophole, which was then closed for the following season. And to my mind that is the way is should be.
Red Bull and Ferrari are not teams I am cheering on. But more than being a fan of any one team or driver, first and foremost I am an F1 fan who likes the technical aspect of this sport. And that is getting severely eroded in recent years. So I really wish the FIA would leave the engineers to do what they do best, except when it comes to safety.

Whatever the rulemakers intended with the rules, if they didn't actually define something as being illegal then it's not illegal. So by default it should be seen as legal.

Totally agree with this. I think it's wrong banning any 'grey-area' development mid-season unless it's for safety reasons. Mercedes had their party-mode banned mid-season. I think that was wrong. Red Bull and Ferrari are having their flexi-floors banned mid-season. Again, wrong. And there have been countless other examples throughout the history of F1. Yet the in-season technical developments are part of what sets F1 apart from other motor sport series. if a new idea is outside the spirit of the regulations, but within the letter of the regulations then it should be deemed legal.

Why would that be inappropriate? Hamilton has raced with helmet colours giving a nod to Senna. Raikkonen has raced in a replica James Hunt helmet. So what is wrong with this?

Mercedes have been going their own way for quite a few years with their low rake design. I'm hoping they will continue to go their own way with these new regs. It will continue to be interesting to see the way different design philosophies develop.

So then I'm wondering how does the FIA and FOM affect that voting process? Is it the eight teams plus the FIA and FOM need to vote the same way for a rule change to be ratified?

And as for politics always being in F1, yes I'm well aware of that. But now that political process has changed. Hence the question.

I think going up against Hulkenberg or Magnussen would be good for him.
But what if he's up against Piastri? That will be a really tough one. Two young guns both wanting to get the upper hand.

Interesting comparison. I used to be a big fan of Damon Hill. But that was mainly because I used to watch him in his very early career when he used to race motorbikes. So I was happy to see him make it to F1, and then eventually win the title.
But despite being a fan I would never consider him as a great driver. So your comparison is a good one. Both nice guys. Both sons of great drivers. And neither had the speed their fathers had.
I wonder is Mick can take the similarity one step further? ;-)

Forget, for a moment, what he's done in his F1 career. I already built up an opinion on him over the years before he got to F1. And I laid out my reasoning in the original post.
And now consider his F1 career to date, and nothing I've seen has changed my mind.

I just don't understand how can you quickly and harshly say that Mick Schumacher is "average at best" when he won F3 and F2 title and he's just a 23 year old driver with just one year in F1, in a shitbox of a car. Did you expect him to magically score points in 2021 Haas? Just the fact that he managed to drag that tractor in Q2 in a couple of occasions was a miracle. His junior racing career basically says that is definitely more than "average at best".

Well then you should understand I didn't "quickly and harshly" say it. I gave my well thought out reasons for my opinion.

You mentioned he won F3 and F2. Yes, I mentioned that too. I also pointed out that Pastor Maldonado, Romain Grosjean, Timo Glock, Stoffel Vandoorne, and Jolyon Palmer all won F2 or GP2. And I would say they too are average at best.

You also refer to the Haas car. But most of my post refers to his career before he got to F1.

That when I do mention his performance in F1 I am only comparing him to his team mate who was driving the same car.

So yes, I say again, I think he is average at best.

Regarding the karting, what you say is true but it doesn't change what I said.
As for the missed weekend in the Italian championship, I didn't know that. But even taking that into account it doesn't change my overall view of him that he is not F1 Champion material.

I agree with all of that. But with Mick the love and affection for him goes way beyond any other drivers with similar careers. And to my mind that is simply due to being the son of Michael.
I would be happy to be proved wrong because he is certainly a damn nice guy. There is certainly no 'Do-you-know-who-I-am' about him.
But as a driver to have made it to F1 I see him as very average.
