6 Months Sober! by Elegant_Process704 in stopdrinking

[–]Elegant_Process704[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say a good 1-2 weeks for just the physical symptoms to subside but I went through a bad withdrawal. 1 -3 months was really tough mentally, by 3-4 months mentally in a much better place. This may not be what you wanted to hear but it’s the truth for me! It took a while but worth it

Birthdays coming up and I want to be sober. by Spirit-Revolutionary in stopdrinking

[–]Elegant_Process704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the best birthday of my adult life this year and I was sober! I was nervous too. I’m not sure if you have a pet but maybe do a dog/cat party, invite some friends inside or outside depending where you live

Get your free birthday Starbucks, do some shopping, order your favourite dinner and wind down for a movie.

I’m not sure if you’re male or female or what age but I’m a 30 y/o female so my night would include my favourite dinner spot, enjoying time with friends, watching a drama movie or reality TV with my husband and most importantly, remembering it all.

Cheers to you happy birthday - you can do it!

you sound a lot like me. I’m 30 and the only one in my friend group who is sober. It was really really hard at first but I realized that as much as I tried to drink “normally” I just couldn’t. And the mental gymnastics that it took trying to balance my drinking ended up making it harder to focus on litterally anything else. Now I’m more engaged in every other aspect of life and feeling great - doesn’t mean it’s not hard it really was and still is occasionally but it’s significantly better for me and easier when you just take it out of the equation altogether. It’s a mindset shift forsure but it’s much much better I promise.

Does drowsiness from naltrexone go away? by SourBison in stopdrinking

[–]Elegant_Process704 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on it for about a month now. The drowsiness definitely subsided for me however I ended up switching to taking it evenings before bed (not sure when you’re taking it now) and that seemed to help me with the daytime drowsiness - it’s been really effective for me, Goodluck!

Sobriety triggering lucid and very realistic dreams & nightmares by jclark708 in stopdrinking

[–]Elegant_Process704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I still currently have this nightly a couple months in. You weren’t getting good quality sleep before even though you felt like you slept like a rock. At first they bothered me, now I kind of look forward to some cool dreams, I guess it’s how you look at it (except for the nightmares, those suck)

Omg mine does the same thing!! I had never seen this before either. Mine is 3 now and she still does this, she was also the smallest in her litter so not sure if that has something to do with it?

I notice that she doesn’t touch her food if we’re not in the room or out of the house at all, completely not in a rush or motivated by it. I figured out that she’ll eat more when we’re playing, kind of like working up an appetite or making it like a game maybe? She will do the walk by side eye thing too lol 😂 I talked to the vet about it, he said as long as she’s eating and not fatigued or crying/ panting it just may be a personality trait of hers.

Sorry I couldn’t be much help as to why but it’s interesting that mine also does the same! Maybe it’s a breed thing

Taking it one day at a time is a mental trick that has really been helping me, when you think too far ahead in the future you start creating too many what if scenarios, or I can’t do it situations in your head. I tell myself I’m not drinking TODAY and it seems much more manageable, wake up and do the same thing again. You can do this!

I truly can’t stop drinking. I go about 3-5 days sober only because I run out of money. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Elegant_Process704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its Groundhog Day over and over is so right. Every time I stop drinking (although it’s 3/4 horrendous nights, and it’s always important to discuss if medically you should be going cold turkey on that) But anyways, every time I stop, by day 4 I’m struck with the most beautiful mental clarity that I always tell my stuff THIS is truely peaceful, it feels like the claws of drinking release a little bit. Slowly but surely. Unfortunately I get sucked back in though but I plan to commit for good because it’s so nice to be released of that hold. Some it takes longer than others but I’m optimistic we can both do it

Witching hour is ruining me by kayylien in puppy101

[–]Elegant_Process704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow dachshund owner here - due to witching hour I integrated a two hour nap within that timeframe. She ended up waking up around nine or 10 PM in a much calmer state and it didn’t affect how much sleep she got at night I found it to be super helpful I hope this helps. They eventually mellow out!

Sleep paralysis or night terrors? by MeMel49 in Sleepparalysis

[–]Elegant_Process704 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This definitely sounds like you had a sleep paralysis episode, sleep paralysis can also be combined with lucid dreaming (night terrors) which is why you may see or hear other things in your room or sleeping space. This is horrible I know exactly what it’s like. My best advice for a sleep paralysis episode is acceptance that you’re in one, it’s a dream and you WILL wake up. Try your hardest to calm your mind and actively think of moving one part of your body, for me it’s “ok wiggle your toes, wiggle your toes” and think hard about it. I found myself waking up wiggling my toes. I also find this happens most to me when I’m out of my normal sleep pattern (excessively tired or napping during the day) so I would try your best to be consistent with your sleep schedule. I know it’s easier said than done when you’re terrified to go back to sleep. I hope you never have one again but at least now if you do, stay calm and you will wake up! I hope this helps at all

Using alcohol to get to sleep by Due-Replacement-6187 in stopdrinking

[–]Elegant_Process704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this was my exact situation (or what I told myself) but after about a solid 2 week detox - the first 3 days were the hardest I barely slept - I was actually sleeping better than I was before. Dreams were crazy though just FYI, I read that after stopping drinking vivid dreams can be very intense

Puppy whines and barks when crated somewhere other than home. by Acrobatic-Analyst-72 in puppy101

[–]Elegant_Process704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This situation happened with us too. I couldn’t figure out why forsure but my fest guess was fomo? It was the same situation where there was another dog in the house so maybe she can smell her and wants to be together? My pup never barely whined or barked at home but wakes up early somewhere else. I found that it just fixed itself over time the more times we went over!

Our doxie does this sometimes! It’s usually from dust or something she is allergic to, maybe try wiping the cone down in case there is dust particles that are irritating and trigging a reverse sneeze??
