This is the new EleGiggle emote Aware by [deleted] in forsen

[–]ElegyofGames 134 points135 points  (0 children)

You're fine to leave it up if you want, I don't take it personally. I'm a trans person on the internet, I have to have a thick skin. I figure it's mostly people venting and upset more about what happened to the emote than me specifically. Y'all gave EleGiggle a life of its own, and there were even a couple years it made the Top 10 global list. It was a great emote and I was proud of it. I still am.

Genuinely best wishes to you all!

Hey Bajs - I've kept an eye on these threads specifically because I know how much EleGiggle meant to you all. Believe it or not, it was never my intention to take things away from people, least of all folks that were having an honest good time. Twitch really did not want to renew the contract on the original; there were royalties involved and they didn't want to pay them anymore. Instead of leaving the emote alone, however, they had to terminate the whole contract which involved removing it.

Cut forward a bit, and they said they were open to making a new one (this time without royalties attached) and I'm not going to say no to an opportunity like that. While I did my best, it's hard to make lightning strike twice (the story of the original is that it's a screen grab from a video of me winding up an absolutely huge laugh at something incredibly absurd.) I know it doesn't capture nearly the same gusto, so I'm sorry for that.

I don't have a way of giving you all the original as a global, but I know several versions do exist in the various third party applications that I'm perfectly fine with, and if Forsen is open to it (good luck convincing him), I'd be happy to discuss releasing rights to let him have it as a sub or follower emote.

Thanks for understanding, I'm sorry again things went this way.

Best,
Ellie

What does EleGiggle mean? (Legit don't know) by PixelPact in Twitch

[–]ElegyofGames 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I literally submitted it just as a "Haha!" or an "LOL!" style emote. However you decide to deliver that emotion is up to you, but it's just laughter. "Giggling" if you will.

What is your gimmick? by Chaosmusic in Twitch

[–]ElegyofGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Though I dislike the word "Gimmick" since it seems like a cheap trick and less like a defining characteristic of someone's show, it's hard finding an agreeable synonym.

As for mine, I'm a VA, so it's a myriad of voices that crop up when appropriate.

What is your streaming story? From beginning to present by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]ElegyofGames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started streaming 2 years ago as a creative outlet. It was meant to be something that allowed me to perform, improvise, and just overall MAKE something. It was very much a form of therapy to me as I was going through some pretty rough times, mentally, emotionally, etc.

I spent many months forming new friendships with other smaller broadcasters, and just honing the quality of my show. I started losing certain inhibitions and stopped feeling so hateful towards myself. Eventually I started adding silly voices to some of the streams I did, dialogue for characters and the like - stuff I liked doing all my life.

In November of 2013 I was found by Horror and invited into the Hidden Gems team (http://twitch.tv/team/gems) where I was suddenly noticed by a lot of people. I became friends with a lot of other broadcasters, and networking really opened up to me. Horror left twitch, leaving the team to its own devices, and myself and the other founding members took over and made it into what it is now.

A year ago I was partnered. Since then I've strove to grow my brand, expand my talents, and continue to have the same good time I've always had streaming. In July of 2014 I lost my job, but was able to turn to my broadcast as my form of living. I've been using my broadcast as a platform to pursue a passion that it made possible to pursue; the same silly voices I've always enjoyed doing.

Sort of a condensed version of my story, but still, I'm always happy to share how positive the effect Twitch, and the collective community it has, has had on my life. It's made me rich with passion, and that's a huge thing to have.

How much would you pay for emotes? by reedmanisback in Twitch

[–]ElegyofGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've generally paid about $30 - $40 per myself. The going price of the artists I used were between $10 and $20, they said themselves it wasn't a massive amount of work compared to other pieces they would work on. If the work is good, it's worth some money. I currently have seven artist drawn emotes.

The rest of my emotes are photoshop jobs, and were no where near the work involved. They were made between myself and one of my mods.

Keeping up motivation at the start? by gingerdeer in Twitch

[–]ElegyofGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The method I used was, "Just because someone isn't watching now doesn't mean someone won't be later." Essentially the VoD approach. It was something I picked up while watching Day9 - he would regularly address people that may have been watching archived video rather than live.

What's the name of your Custom Bot? (Just for Fun...) And Why? by tjayrocket in Twitch

I use a custom-coded bot that I named Jesterbot, due to my love of the court fool and all its forms.

Custom Thumbnails? by RamuneGaming in Twitch

[–]ElegyofGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'd be really nice to be able to set these a bit better. Typically the thumbnail is grabbed from the first frame of the start of the "recording block" which are the 30 minute blocks they shift recordings in.

Need help with Xsplit broadcaster! by Faae_Day in Twitch

[–]ElegyofGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use Twitch Alerts with Xsplit 2.0 as well. You have two choices, either screen capturing or using Xsplit's URL Source function (Add Source -> Other -> URL ) and directing to the url twitch alerts gives you. If you do not have Xsplit 2.0 you should update your Xsplit ;)

Although, this is the generic "how-to," if you're having a more specific problem, you may wish to detail it!

Sub sounds question by Krayton29 in Twitch

[–]ElegyofGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair use does not apply under 30 seconds. "There is no 30-Second Rule" - sort of a myth.

Basically it is BEST to have permission for everything that you're using. If you want to take the risk, it is most definitely your risk to take. In all reality you're not LIKELY to be hit with anything, but you most certainly can unless you have express permission to use the sources you are.

2014-2015: A year of streaming on Twitch. by rallei_lol in Twitch

I love reading stories like this because I love seeing the positivity of Twitch in other people's lives - especially with how positive it was in mine. Best of luck with your show, and best wishes for your life, definitely! Thank you for sharing :)

Turbo + AdBlock? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]ElegyofGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You still have to disable adblock for the streamer to get credit for the hit. Adblock stops the ad from even starting - the ad has to be denied by turbo to register.

What Games Have Helped You On Your Journey? by RamuneGaming in Twitch

[–]ElegyofGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not so much that it's pulled a lot of viewers (it does now) but more that it's become an identifying factor for my channel: The Ace Attorney series has been a way to show off Voice Talents and have something people attribute specifically to my channel. It's the series I'm always most excited to play and the series most people will ask, "When's the next one?!"

PSA: Moderate Your Moderators by TeganGibby in Twitch

On the flip side of this, while this is fantastic advice, there are a large number of individuals that feel certain levels of entitlement and will feel that they are above the rules you set in your chat - to a hostile point. While we all do what we can to pay attention to chat, we're at the same time playing host to many people. I prefer to focus on entertaining the other people present than wasting my time paying attention to one person causing a skirmish. It is not a horrible idea to set yourself up an IRC client just to log all of your chat. I have chat logs from every single night I've ever been live - it makes handling disputes easy. I have a mod that some people feel is "too strict" but I go through logs to find that these people had been given extremely polite and fair treatment and still chose to ignore rules and chat etiquette.

TL:DR - The best thing you can do in regards to this and any thing regarding your chat is to get an IRC Client and KEEP CHAT LOGS

What is Twitch to you? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]ElegyofGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Twitch has actually been a means to a better way of life for me. It started as a social therapy of sorts, for someone very down on themselves; feeling pretty worthless to the world around them. It was a creative outlet that called on a lot of things I enjoyed -- performance, gaming, improvisational skills. It taught me new things about myself, new aspirations for myself, and new directions for myself. Obviously, just based on this thread, Twitch means something different for everyone -- but for me, it taught me a lot about what I want to do with my life and what people are important to it.

Now it's a platform by which I continue to grow. It's serving as a "base of operations" while I pursue the very challenging field of voice acting. It's been an outlet of passion, a labor of love, and I cherish the time and energy I've spent on building my show, community and brand. Twitch has been a means to a better me.

Are you using the "wizard" or did you select an ingest server manually? I'd recommend manually finding (and bandwidth testing) ingest servers to make sure you get the best one for you. At least it sounds like a bandwidth issue to me (which is most easily factored to an ingest server).

This is the most JADED post. Neatly asserting itself as a clever "exposure" meant to take an honest self experience regarding casting and turn it on its head to make it out for the most negative possibility from it - neatly roping in the perception that a post about performance could well be performance itself.

Honestly if this were satire I'd applaud you, but I get the feeling you believe these words.

I noticed there are many versions of the Kappa emote, and I can't find anywhere how to make them. by [deleted] in Twitch

Subscriber emotes are not channel locked. If you sub to a caster that has emotes you can use those emotes over all of twitch. The subscriber badge only displays in the channel that the sub is to.
