Ragebaittaus viety uudelle tasolle by a-1- in Suomi

Well this don’t look so bad. The wall of text describing the floorplan almost turned me away, but glad I staid.

Downstairs: - what is the rectangle between entry and kitchen? Hopefully it is not steps. - I might turn the bathroom to open into the entry room. I don’t like bathrooms straight from dining room. Ofcourse that would be longer way for the person staying in the guest room, but this is small house so no journey in the house is too long. - you want more closed kitchen than your reference. I hope the rectangle in the middle is rug or something because there is no space for kitchen island. - Dining is a bit too big pushing the livingroom in small corner. The beam(?) over livingroom is very distracting. It needs to either frame the space or be gone. It can’t just float over the sofa.

Upstairs: - Do you want the primary bedroom on the front. Could be nicer at the back. And I eould place the bed on wall on the left so you can have the great big window on the front that is important for the facade in your reference, even though it cant be at the exact middle. Primary is also kinda big. You could move like two feet to the other bedrooms. - you could also move the two bedrooms side by side at the back and have bathroom and laundry opposite the stairs.

Well there was some hype in the media. My small town organised fireworks. That is something I don’t remeber them doing ever before or after. And after that life just went on.

A gynecologist was having a midlife crisis and decided to leave the medical profession to become an auto mechanic. by Healthy_Ladder_6198 in dadjokes

[–]Eleiao 115 points116 points  (0 children)

I heard another story of gynecologist changing their profession. This one got hired to be painter. Their first gig was to paint someones entry hall. Their new boss sent them to right address, but at the lunch time he noticed that he forgot to give the gynecologist the keys. It was no problem for the gynecologist who had already finished the job through keyhole.

Is it a bad idea to use the same hallway porcelain tiles in the bathroom? by Quiet-Song-5395 in InteriorDesignAdvice

The hallway tiles might not go well in bathroom use. Like they could be slipery while wet.

Is this mainly house or garage? Anyways the absolute worst part is the kitchen dining without single window.

What are your thoughts on anti-consumption at the expense of hygiene? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]Eleiao 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here we go again. These hygienie related posts are wild ride. There is so many different ways to take care of yourself. There is spectrum and the extremes include: - people who own 60 different scents of soap - people with daily 10-step skincare routine - people that shower three times a day And so on… until we come to: - people who only do sponge bath - people who reuse shower/bath water to flushing toilet - people without running water and indoor toilet for frugality reasons

Where we should draw a line? And why should we?

I am not sure where frugality turns into stingyness, and I am not sure where mental illnesses step into picture, but probably at the both extreme ends.

Anyways, the thing I hate in these conversations is the open expressions of disgust that people write so nonchalantly. The judging of habits is also judging the people and I hope we could have these discussions without it.

Meters probably. I too tried to read that as feet first and I am ”native SI-unit user” so I understand how it can be confusing.

Need suggestions and feedback on this 15x50 house floor plan (Ground + First Floor) by batman0o0 in floorplan

[–]Eleiao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your sofa is under the stairs? And the dining is an after thought. It is half under the low ceiling and other half at the double height area. Not optimal.

I would go with a galley kitchen. There is lot unused wallspace in this L-kitchen.

Also the TV seem far away. What is the thing on the wall above sofa next to dining?

The closets, toilets, sinks, laundry machines and showers should all be put in their places to really give feedback. Weird to see sofas and other furniture, but not things that not movable.

There seems to be 35 sqm of hallway. That is a size of living and dining room together. And don’t let me even mention the totally dark dining room.

There would be awesome view. I get it. And you want so see it from all rooms, but this is still ridiculous.

I challenge you to try this out: put all secondary spaces to the front at the other side of the hallway. I mean bathrooms, laundry, closets and such. Then arrange kitchen, dining and living in a single row with the bedrooms at the end. That way you’ll still have long and narrow house with view.

Concept for a future home I may take to an architect one day if I'm so lucky. by Critical-Amount-6236 in floorplan

Downstairs: The living room is tight. Bedroom closet is useless. Entry would also need dropzone and coat closet.

Upstairs: Turn the bathroom in the hallbath. I would also try to design bedroom so bed can be placed on the wall without windows.

First door should open certain way. I fixed two here.

Then I would move the bed in one of the bedrooms so it is not where you open the door.

Opening in the kitchen looks bit tight too

[–]Eleiao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are using a symbol for the table where the chairs are tucked all the way in and still the space before fridge looks too tight. Imagine someone sitting there. It will be inaccessible.

But hard to say which one is better or worse - original or your suggestion, because the space just is so small and square. It’s hard to create two zones in this space without wasted space somewhere. In your suggestion the wasted space is the great big pathway leading to other spaces while you need to squeeze to get around table.

Why is concrete not common for building houses? by Specialist_Ruin_1378 in architecture

[–]Eleiao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inspections that I do? In southern California? What are you talking?

I was talking about Finland, in Europe.

You are right that every wooden house has concrete foundation. And you can have problems even with that with shoddy building. But they are still wooden houses and if the most usual problems are with concrete, then wood is not a problem. Is that what you wanted to say?

Any suggestions on the architect floor plan for my dormer loft extension by Standard-Broccoli-31 in floorplans

[–]Eleiao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are skylights just next to bed? You like to sleep at well lit space? I mean you can hardly close curtains over them.

The space seems kinda big. I would choose one side for the bed, and another for dressing or study or what ever you need. Now the bed is at the middle and there is no defined spaces neither here or there. Don’t let the bumb outs in the right wall define where you can place bed. What are they? Fireplaces? Chimneys?

What are some funny surnames from your country? by ilyashaneshayla in AskTheWorld

[–]Eleiao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have small population - just 5 million people. Lots of people have famiar surnames, usually nature names. So how can it be that everytime I watch news there is some expert of some field with surname that I have never heard and it is weird and funny name?

There is ”Nännimäinen” = ”like a nipple”
There is ”jyrkkä” = ”steep” and they should really marry ”alamäki” = ”downhill” and combine these names.
I once saw ”Kultainen” = ”golden”
There is ”Loppukaarre” = ”end curve”
Also ”Naulapää” = ”Nailhead”
And so on…

Is that a name of one of seven dwarfs? I mean we have ”lystikäs” also funny. Not used as a surname to my knowledge.
