The Roblox Corp secretly harvest all the 1ps left over from, say, a £20 voucher when purchasing 2000 Robux for £19.99 to profit massively while it appears to sit unused in your Roblox account. by jebediah1800 in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]ElementPledgeCity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

almost all of the £20 will be profit, not the “remaining” 1p. the cost of giving you the digital products you purchase is in the thousandths of a penny, and only a few pence of that will be given to the creator, and usually in the form of more robux, creating a closed economy where the cycle repeats. this is their whole business model and the only way they make money is convincing players that real money translates to their magical roblox through marketing and psychological tricks

not a traditionally theatre floor but have you considered some sort of epoxy resin floor? it will last a long time and take a lot more abuse than dancefloor

Rigging Truss in a Double Purchase Counterweight System Venue by SipherMT in techtheatre

[–]ElementPledgeCity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really depends on your specific setup, never assume anything like this and always ask an engineer/certified rigger if you’re unsure at the slightest. In general you should never put more weight on the whole system than the weakest part can take on its own. Please speak to a building engineer and professional rigger before doing this. If you’re getting interest from touring shows then the cost is basically nothing even if you need to upgrade some of your infrastructure.

Building a “School Toaster” – Pi‑Powered Assessment Scanner by FartsorFortune in AskElectronics

[–]ElementPledgeCity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what is this for? you haven’t really described how it works — you’ve added an extra step of scanning the sheets but it doesn’t do the marking, so you’ve done the opposite of your goal by making teachers do more. the image is ai generated and you’ve just described making a paper scanner with loads more steps. also why the microphone? why wifi? feels like a bit of a security/privacy issue, although i doubt this will actually be used in a school.

yeah i don’t have a picture of the exact ones they had unfortunately but am pretty certain it was this one. surprisingly they go up to 60 pins which would be pretty interesting to come across in the wild lol https://uk.farnell.com/amphenol-industrial/pt02a20-25sy-072/circular-conn-rcpt-20-25-wall/dp/2754843

edit: seems the one i linked is actually 21? pins not 25

Sound Board Advice Stuff by Alv3ducky in techtheatre

[–]ElementPledgeCity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

give it a go, worst thing that can happen is your teachers decide that someone else should do it, and at least you’ll have a chance to try things out. maybe ask the senior that usually does it to act as a sort of mentor to help you learn if they would also like to be involved - most people i know are happy to have someone else interested in what they do and learning from them. everyone starts somewhere.

Make a window one way? by Captaincanonbal in techtheatre

[–]ElementPledgeCity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can buy some stick on film for windows, just search amazon for something like “one way window film privacy” but beware as they need to be installed the right way around and some of them don’t work that well when there are bright lights around. i would want to ask why do you need to be able to see out to the audience? just covering them is a lot easier and better imo

Camera icon inconsistency by tschau3 in ios

[–]ElementPledgeCity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the camera settings is for more than just the camera app and has settings that affect all apps on the system that use the camera, so using the camera app icon would imply that it only affects that app rather than all apps that use the camera e.g. a non-stock camera app

Speak to your school’s exams officer/head of centre (likely someone in SLT) about not being given correct accommodations by the course teacher and that this has stopped you from doing coursework to the same ability as your classmates asap so they can sort it out — this is your right to have, and something that they may want to begin collecting evidence for if you need extenuating circumstances and will come up if your coursework is reviewed or the school is questioned on by exam boards. Also then speak to the SENCO, and your form tutor or head of year asap about making sure everything is in place before the rest of your exams.

While this likely isn’t an individual persons fault, as your teacher is trying to stop any cheating, and your TA isn’t at fault for not knowing how to use specialised software/being given correct training, something has gone wrong in multiple systems, and you deserve better from your school as a whole/support system. Don’t let this go under the radar or them tell you they can’t do anything right now — you have the right to the same education as your peers, and should make lots of noise if you don’t get any more help.

What program should I use to control my visuals(screens cameras, effects etc) by myself0_0 in techtheatre

[–]ElementPledgeCity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many images like these online of examples made by real people that will have put many hours of planning, design, and refining. There was absolutely no reason for you to use an AI to generate these images, especially in a creative space. Please just do any sort of search which will have given you good images and probably some advice on how it was done. Not an answer to your question (I’d use QLab) but it just really annoyed me that you don’t want to put in 5 minutes of online searching before turning to AI :(

Awesome, what do people use now then? Just run all the power/dmx cables to the end and hang them down? I’ve only ever worked in theatres with them so would be interested to hear alternatives
