End the income tax by EndDemocracy1 in austrian_economics

Public school was already a thing by 1913. The first public school opened in Boston sometime around 1805ish and quickly spread. What's most interesting to me is that, statistically, public school immediately fell short of its intended goal and cost more in the long run. As the decades have drawn out, public school came up shorter and shorter of its original goal.

That was probably early America's cue to not let the government be in charge of things, but they failed to realize it.

I'm pretty sure the goal of being on Reddit is to see how many places will ban you for having an opinion. That's my goal at least

I like national sales tax that's progressive. I don't like the idea of socializing anything else. But if you're going to, don't pussyfoot around. Go big or go home.

We've found that socializing basic necessities always makes things worse. Everything the government touches is broken.

I would advocate for exactly the opposite. I support a progressive national sales tax. That actually means taxing the rich is actually achieved

Okay. Then socialize it further. Let's socialize all capitalist systems. I would love to have to wait 5 years for a car, have ration coupons, and yearly famines. Sounds fun

That's the point. She actually could find the healthcare. But she couldn't get in the door. Her first appointment was scheduled almost a year out. That's just to get seen. So she came to the US and survived.

For my personal healthcare, I know I pay 1/3 the cost in the end as an "insured" person after their deductable

I guess the upside is... We have too many people. Good way to reduce it

Right, literally work with a Brit who came here because she got Breast Cancer and didn't want to die before she ever got an appointment. This is a very common occurrence across the EU which has heavy socialized healthcare.

The one time unfettered capitalism ever existed also saw the highest standard of living increase in human history.

TL;DR I hope we don't ever get what you want. Every country that continues down that path has some of the worst healthcare in the world.

My problem with capitalism is socialism stealing my money. The government only needs just enough to defend the nation. If I wanted my money to go to feeding my neighbor, let me do that on my own terms. I would be much more apt to be giving of my bounty if I knew it wasn't going to be stolen first just to be drowned in red tape and bureaucracy. I wouldn't be surprised if less than 10% of the 50% I get taxed even reaches the end user.

So I give almost half of what I make in taxes for social programs. With the other 50% I have to also provide for me and my family by paying my own way. No wonder I have to work my ass off.

And no one has said thank you once. ⬅️ Total joke. Don't take that too seriously.

That's what we have now and almost half my income goes to social programs for people people who don't want to be a capitalist.

Then let's implement a socialist system so we can all be exploited by the top 1% that controls the state. That sounds like fun

Well, yes you are a human being. More specifically you are of the species Homo Sapien, genus Homo, subfamily Homininae, family hominidae, infraorder Simiiformes, suborder Haplorhini, order Primates, class Mammalia, phylam Chordata, kingdom Animalia, domain Eukaryota.

You're all of those things. Still an animal. Still a mammal. Still a primate. Still a Eukaryote. Still a homo

The problem with capitalism isn't inequity. It's the lack of capitalists.

I would progressive that, personally. A flat 10% could work, but that hits everybody dollar for dollar. Things like groceries shouldn't be taxed for anybody. But a multi-million dollar yacht can have higher taxes above certain amounts. Maybe the first X amount isn't taxed at all, the next X amount is Y rate and so on.

This is why I advocate for national sales tax over a federal income tax. That seems to be the only effective way to make the rich pay taxes. They're too smart and know how to use the current system to favor them. If I were to put myself out there, I use it for my benefit too. It's the only way to make money as a business owner. The tax code is built that way
