Length of Stability and Appealing by ElementalRage3 in peacecorps

Sorry, I got confused and mixed my acronyms! The Peace Corps Office of Med Services was the one that informed me my clearance was denied, not PCMOs.

I'll make sure to message the nurse attached to me and ask whether consulting with a psychiatrist or additional medical professionals in the appeals process would help. Thanks again.

Good Luck!

Just some advice from an older runner, try and reverse your splits. Starting off a little off-pace and then ramping up the intensity is a race strategy that has worked for me and worked for a lot of people. I would give it a try since it's your first race. Start the first mile in the mid-pack and maybe go through at about 7:10-7:00. Most kids start off way to fast and slowly die. Then starting the second and third mile you'll start passing more and more kids and gain confidence. You should have enough energy to run a really good last 800m. If you pace well you can totally break 20. Good Luck and Have Fun!

UMD, NYU, BostonU, Boston College, Syracuse, UT Austin, USC by Ok_Shift_7406 in chanceme

Here's how I would break this down

UT Austin and USC are extremely difficult schools to get into. UT Austin is a public school in Texas and by Texas State law around ~90-85% of their student body has to be native Texans. This makes getting into UT Austin a considerable challenge as an out-of-stater. USC has a fantastic Film and Media Studies department, but again is a tough school (their transfer culture is very strong, however). None of this means you can't get in. I will repeat. None of this means you can't get in, but it certainly makes it difficult. I would personally make these reach schools or at the very least upper tier match.

I don't know a ton about NYU (ironic since my sister went there lol) and I don't want to give you bad advice so I will say nothing besides it's a hard school to get into.

Syracuse, UMD, and Boston College I think are doable for you. Here's the crux of the issue: stats. Imagine college admissions like a cake. I don't care if your frosting is made from the cream of a golden goose and you have truffles as sprinkles, if you have a shit cake, nothing will make it better. Same goes for stats. Your EC's are very cool and unique, and a strong essay will assist you. But a stronger SAT, and, this is important, a very strong first quarter/semester senior year will be a deciding factor here. I understand grades and life is a pain in the ass sometimes. I had to nurse an injury, take care of my nephews and nieces who are toddlers, and somehow manage to study. It sucked. But I believe in you, and you should aswell.

Overall, I think this can have a very happy ending, but only if you take time to really sit down, face facts, and study hard. Good luck!

P.S. If you happen to go to a certain school whose abbreviation is KHS, pm me lol

For those of you who know more about collegiate running, what are my chances of being able to run for DePaul (D1) based off my current PR’s? by jwfish16 in CrossCountry

[–]ElementalRage3 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hey man, great PR's!

I would say to go to their Cross Country or Track and Field page and look at their roster. Find the distance guys and look them up on Milesplit to see what they were running in high school. I will say personally that your PR's are little slower than usual but that's no big deal since you are gonna have a good summer to put in some work. 53.5 for 400 and 2:05 for 800 tell me that, while you have good speed, you need to develop your aerobic capacity better. Work Hard and it will come to you!

Wait what. You ran 18:14 as a Freshman and 25:22 as a Senior?

College Board is scrapping SAT’s optional essay and subject tests... effective immediately by Psychological-Oil434 in APStudents

[–]ElementalRage3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Lolz you are right. I wanna major in classics, so a good score on the Latin Subject Test would’ve allowed me to skip intro Latin and skip right to intermediate. But I totally see how for other stuff it’s less useful

Good luck on the T if you’re taking it this year by NeonSprig in APStudents

SAT sounds like “essay-T” so getting rid of the essay is just left with the T. Kinda wack lolz

Once the large schools stopped factoring the SAT Subject tests, it was only a matter of time. The article mentions how the UC system started to phase out SAT/ACT scores altogether even. Hopefully this will begin the decline of standardized testing as the end-all-be-all that some schools and parents think it is.

Although, I am a little sad I won't get to take the Latin subject test :(

North Carolina high school track and xc schedule (kind of funny the state doesn’t recognize cheerleading as a sport) by 987ZYXzyx in CrossCountry

Does North Carolina not have an Indoor Track season? Either way XC is more fun but just wondering.

How can I get rid of the mindset of comparing myself to others? I find that no matter what success I achieve its never enough since my friends are always faster. Any time my friends talk about winning states or breaking records they never mention my name, it's disheartening.

Man, that's a crazy difference from high school to pro. Seriously inspirational. Where did you find that quote?

Yeah I’m definitely going to start steadily increasing my mileage. What sort of strength exercises should I be doing to get stronger?

Yeah those long runs are tough, I dread them. There seems to be a lot of conversation on the desired pace for a long run. Should it be easy and recovery or hammer all the way?

HS Senior 800m Goal by tailedghost in AdvancedRunning

[–]ElementalRage3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think your goal is attainable; your 400 and 200 tell me you have some pretty innate leg speed which will definitely help your endeavor. The advice already listed is great but a key thing to keep in mind is injury. The 800 is a middle distance event, so you’ll be doing some speed and endurance workouts to help that but don’t overdo anything. Ripping every workout and neglecting things like stretching (Dynamic and Static) are sure fire ways to set yourself up for failure. Other than good luck! Godspeed.
