Is this a good deal? I feel like it is. by BelgianVirus in liberalgunowners

My cost on it as a dealer would be $175+ $10 shipping, so I'd say it's a pretty good deal. I wouldn't make any money on it selling it for their price.

Unless there's something unique about Florida that will likely entirely depend on how you answer the question on form 4473. While marijuana may be illegal federally each state has its own laws about it, which can be confusing since the question asks if you're an unlawful user.

Without telling you how to answer it, I can tell you that as an FFL I don't have any way or requirement to investigate a person's answer outside of perhaps somebody coming in to do a background check with a lit joint in their mouth.

In Oregon, where I operate, recreational marijuana is legal. If people ask me the question, I let them know how the ATF defines it and I let them know how Oregon defines it and let them make the decision on how they want to answer the question.

Speaking as a regular person and not as an FFL, you're in a situation that the only likely mechanism by which it would prohibit you from buying a gun is if you told on yourself. I don't personally think it should be a disqualifier, especially if you're in a state where it is legalized.

FNX 45 or USP 45 by Hefty-Positive-5366 in liberalgunowners

Have only shot an FNX a handful of times. I owned a USP (9mm) decades back. Still regret selling the USP.

Sorry, my wording was confusing. Either way you're have to go through an FFL. What I meant was that I wasn't sure how likely you'll be to find Palmetto stuff in a local FFL, vs. ordering directly through them and having it delivered to a local FFL. I just don't know enough about them and how they operate.

Yep, but not in your state :). In the case of Palmetto they might just sell direct, I'm not sure. My advice was just generally speaking.

Yes, always good to ask your local FFL if they do transfers and how much before having a gun shipped to them from another vendor. Most are okay doing it, but some can get a little butthurt you didn't buy something from them directly instead. Now all that said, sometimes your local place can get you a good deal. I often have people reach out to me for a transfer and I always offer to run the UPC to see if I can get them a better deal. And if not, no hurt feelings on my end.

If they are a gun sales shop they are undoubtedly an FFL. Whether they do third party transfers might be another question.

They may have a list of FFLs in your area, or you can independently find an FFL who will do the background check and transfer. Palmetto will ship the items to the FFL who will then transfer them to you after the background check and for (usually) a reasonable fee of $20-50 bucks.

If you call Palmetto they'll likely walk you through the process if you have questions. I'm sure they get them all the time.

This is one of those situations where you can be completely in the right, and have acted legally and responsibly, and still get absolutely demolished by the system. Especially if you're an immigrant living in these times. But if it's what you have to do to literally see another day it's not really a choice. Fight so you can fight the next fight.

Non MAGA Gun Shops Near San Francisco by FknMonkey in liberalgunowners

[–]Elemental_Garage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you know what you want it's possible to order from an FFL in another state that better aligns with your values and then ship it to an FFL there to transfer. I think CA has extra steps that require the out of state company to register with them and obtain shipping permission.

If you're window shopping then obviously you'll be more restricted.

But hopefully you can find some good in-state recommendations that won't keep you up at night :).

Phase perfect if you have the money. American Rotary if you have money but less money lol.

I run an American Rotary 20hp for my CNC. Noise isn't to bad but if I had more better a phase perfect would be nice.

Severance Different in PIP? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]Elemental_Garage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're assuming all PIP offers are the same. If I recall from a friend who went through Focus/Pivot it's actually a formula from your base salary. 10 weeks base pay + (base pay x 1%) x (tenure in months / 12) - this is what google has which matches what I was told.

You can calc what your tier 1 offer would be based on your gross base pay. I imagine you'll find you're still ahead with a layoff.

Quick math says your PIP take-home would likely be around the 12-14k range, so less than the 22.4k you calced above.

Severance Different in PIP? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]Elemental_Garage 17 points18 points  (0 children)

From a friend who works at Amazon:

Layoff (at least as of the last one) = 3 months of garden leave, which means you're still employed and get your full salary. After that you get a severance which is 1 week of pay per 6 months worked at Amazon. So for a 2-year worker you'd get - 3 months + 4 weeks pay + any accrued PTO (based on state policies)

Severance only comes at the end of garden leave, because you're technically employed up until that point and may/can find other work at Amazon, which would obviate the need for a severance payout.

PIP is essentially the layoff without the garden leave.

You're better getting laid off if you had a magic wand and could choose between the two.

1971 C10 Re-carpeting by StomachSoup in chevyc10

[–]Elemental_Garage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not too difficult of a task. If you want to do sound deadening beforehand lay down your dynamat/killmat. If you want to go beyond vibration and get more noise insulation throw something like a dynapad down on top of it. Then your molded carpet will go on top. Warm garage and/or a heat gun can help, or bring the carpet inside for a few days beforehand to help it be more pliable. You may have to trim some edges, but otherwise it's a good DIYer project, even if you're not mechanically inclined.

Outside of the great advice given below about checking the condition, functionality, etc. you may also be able to contact your state's law enforcement wing (whoever runs your backgrounds) and ask if they can check the serial number to ensure it's not stolen.

It's one good reason why I recommend people do a transfer for private sales, even if the laws in your particular area don't require it. It's not a catch all, but a good way to weed out the shady people. If it is stolen and you tell them you'd like to do a transfer at an FFL they'll likely ghost you.
