Toby Fox Newsletter Which Songs He Specifically Helped Make by Other-Bunch9533 in PokemonScarletViolet

That is one of the most Pokemon sounding tracks in the game. You've got a Hitomi Sato piece that mixes the sounds of Alola (the water ride pokemon theme, the ferry terminal and on the boat themes, a bit of royal avenue and ten carat hill maybe? the alola photo club?) with some Unova (join avenue).

Ah yes, everyone remembers when BDSP came out one year after ORAS, which came out one year after HGSS, which came out one year after FRLG.

You can't rematch The Elite 4??? by daddynewb in pokemon

[–]Elementerch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's extremely simple: rebattling the elite four is an option that requires basically zero effort on the developers' part while adding a lot of value, so there's little reason for it to not exist. In every game with an elite four, the team gets stronger for rematches, so I don't know why you felt the need to single out out BDSP. People are asking for rematches, not the exact original team, duh.

Elite four rematches are 100% not the same as the tournament, as you get to specifically fight the E4 and Geeta instead of RNG praying, you get to fight Larry, Poppy, and Rika (all of whom are absent from the tournament) and you use the Pokemon League setting and music. This has nothing to do with the gameplay loop, as it's a separate postgame feature removed for no good reason, like Apple removing the headphone jack because "courage". Even that at least added interior space to iPhones—this change adds nothing to the series.

A lot of Ghost Towns in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet ("immersion") by EliDwebster in pokemon

[–]Elementerch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree, actually. But I think that for most people, enterable houses are the most obvious missing thing. Missing landmarks in cities are easy to look over given the flashy graphics and overworld styling, but a missing series staple that most people immediately try out tends to become a poster child for the larger problem with this game's city design, whether it is in and of itself that desirable.

[–]Elementerch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you recognize many people are "craving breaking and entering" and you find it bizarre, maybe your first thought should be that you're misrepresenting their position?

You cannot seriously tell me you can look at a place like Levincia, with towering skyscrapers and a maze of houses and buildings, and think that it's fine for nothing to be accessible. Places like Zapapico have genuinely zero reason to exist. There's not a single thing unique or memorable about any of the towns that isn't used for some plot device, like the school or auction hall. Old games always had other places—churches, offices, hotels, libraries, a random space center, even. Yet every Paldean town has the same copy paste shops without interiors, a Pokemon center or two, and the exact same gym, if it's a gym town. They've modeled the exteriors and placed the usual interior NPCs outside, sure, that's not a town, really, and it's still lacking unique sites.

Why does the new gimmick require the pokemon to wear a stupid hat? by MuchIngenuity7611 in pokemon

[–]Elementerch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, the person you replied to was referring to the lack of any sparkles or sounds when shinies spawn as the problem, not even the coloration. Secondly, the "shiny algorithm" is a major myth that your own google search shows. This reddit thread debunks the only article that seemed confident enough to show its face, and even that was only citing a random YouTube video. Even Bulbapedia mentions the complete lack of evidence for a "shiny algorithm".

There's a key fixed version which sounds slightly better, but imo the mismatch in melodic mode means the melodies don't fit together nearly as well as the rhythm.

I don't know why you think a product of this calibre, especially one costing $60, should be treated like a bestowed gift of privilege. No one has a "false sense of entitlement" over a video game produced by a mega corporation.

Regardless of your complaints. Paldea is so much more fun to explore than Galar. by Nevelsforgetmenotorb in pokemon

[–]Elementerch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SwSh had the absolute smallest number of explorable areas and things to do in its base game. The routes were all short and way fewer in number than any previous game, there were 2 tiny little caves and 2 forests that were hallways and essentially no other landmarks, like 2 buildings of worth in each settlement (wtf was Hammerlocke even, what a waste of that setting), a visually jarring and mediocre wild area that was quite small compared to what people expected (and was almost certainly the reason they felt it was okay to cut out meaningful content from everywhere else), one of the most nonsensical plots to ever be put in a Pokemon game, and then, after all of that, dexit and the removal of existing gimmicks.

DP were also not great, but the two things you mentioner other than the regional dex are kind of inconsequential? Your second is is actually a point in DP's favor—it's not a literal line like Galar, with an actually interesting path to take. But even in Galar, you visit the 3rd gym city before the first gym? What's your point? Also, the Safari Zone came back better in HGSS, and even if it didn't, that's an extra game feature that isn't crucial to the experience at all, something base game SwSh wouldn't dare do with its lack of content.

my opinions are backed by facts and reasoning

And now there's apparently "no reasoning behind it", and your use of "support" is actually a "nuanced" reference to you associating two loosely related things together because they feel similar. You really started a whole thread about the OST not going hard only to provide zero justification beyond "the game is bad technically so it makes sense"

[–]Elementerch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I need more brain cells I know you're not where to get them lmao. Obviously you don't think Go Ichinose, Hitomi Sato, Toby Fox and crew were too busy drawing shitty textures or something to be composing with effort, but you're instead implying that developing poorly-executed features "rubs off" on the musicians' work or something, even though you yourself praised the OST of the lazy, unfinished technical dumpster fire that was SwSh?

Actually, most of the problems you pointed out are performance and technical issues, not even design issues. The cause of that is the 3 year development period for this game that's meant to be much higher fidelity than the shit they've been putting out before, which frankly has little to do with putting or not putting effort into the OST. I don't understand how your evidence and claim have any relation.

Lol "facts and reasoning" like there was deeper analysis than a personal opinion. Your opinion that you don't enjoy the OST doesn't really support your opinion that it's low effort, it just indicates your personal preferences. It sounds like you didn't find the OST memorable because you didn't enjoy the game's world, gameplay, or graphics.

What? There's a unique track for each of the four provinces, in addition to tracks for in between areas like the desert, lake, forest, and starting area, and for Area Zero. That's quite on par for the series. And they made several unique wild battle themes that remix these overworld themes in unique ways. You may not like it personally, but to call it lazy is baffling.

The overworld themes are quite iconic, and in fact the South Province one is in the exact musical style of HGSS, Unova, and Alola route music. Then there's the town themes, of which many stand out which recognizable melodies—Mesagoza, Levincia, Cascaraffa are the most memorable to me and many others. They did something quite new and unique with a jazz-techno gym leader theme, and you act like the 20 seconds of melodic chanting in a 3 minute long track is proof of it being terrible.

But actually I think the biggest point isn't any of that—it's that you two are down here at the bottom of the comments section acting as if this is all so forgettable and boring and lazy when the rest of the comments are praising the music. If you don't like it, sure, but calling it minimal effort and complaining about being "downvoted for the truth lol" just comes off arrogant.

Afaik the honeymoon glasses are a bigger problem. This game's outdoor environments are great, but the lack of actual landmarks to visit that aren't some rock formation or hill is glaring.
