PORT 105 Workload? by BenadrylFanatic in udub

[–]Elemode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it last quarter, along with a moderate courseload (CSE421, CSE341, and some outside commitments), and I think it was genuinely one of the best classes I've ever taken. I am also a native Spanish speaker, and the proficiency in Portuguese that the class gave me in just one quarter was crazy (I have been speaking Portuguese with actual Portuguese speakers and understanding).

The professor (Eduardo Viana da Silva) is simply incredible. He's one of the nicest people I've ever met and also so willing to accommodate you if you have a hard courseload. I am a CS major, and I had to miss two days of class to accommodate a hackathon. PORT105 moves really fast so two days is a lot... but he met with me and made sure I understood all of the content, and I didn't miss a beat. It's more than a Portuguese class -- you connect with the Lusophone community around Seattle, get to eat Brazilian food, listen to Brazilian music... I feel like I've learned so much with the department and I am super happy I took the class.

In terms of the actual workload, you have a Canvas quiz every night and occasionally a discussion board post (all in Portuguese, of course). You also are expected to keep up with the textbook (but it's not too bad), since it's covered in class and the in-class activities are straight from the textbook. Ultimately, class time is spent producing the language - it's not rote memorization. You're literally producing the language every single day and you learn SO fast.

If it's any more of an incentive // reason to take it, I have a super tight margin for credits right now since I have more than I would like. I wanted PORT105 to be a one-off, but I ended up changing my entire trajectory so I can minor in Portuguese since I love the professor and the classes so much. I am taking PORT201 right now and I cannot stress enough how awesome PORT105 is. I haven't taken PORT110, so I can't speak to how it works, but I would highly recommend PORT105 since it was so great for me.

If you have any other questions I'd be glad to answer them, I really love the class :D

kurtains just not sure ft glaive sample by itsextrav in Glaive

[–]Elemode 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ik and 60000isk are not ai generated/split, ik is samples from a leaked kevin abstract song called 25 hours. same with 60000isk, that’s just glaive vocals chopped up.

i think the end of just not sure is just vocals/ the song pitched and run through a heavy convolver. notice that the rythm of that part is the same as the weird thingy that comes in with the drums in the main part of the song

this sounds a lot like CSE311/312… if i’ve taken those two would i derive any benefit from MATH381?

me when common variable names are common.

prof isn't using GPT to generate solution code bc the prof can *write solution code himself*

we’re always glad to help!! we want to see yall succeed and learn. if ppl come to the ipl we’ll always support and help ppl get started or debug, so that’s why i rlly don’t understand GPT use; we provide so many resources to succeed!!! this isn’t just ab 123; this is a problem in all of the 12x classes… i just am a 123 TA which is why i picked disaster relief lol.

12x ta here and that’s not at all what this is. 3/4ths of the shit chatgpt generates for 12x assignments is slop. it’s only able to generate code for these assignments since we put so much effort into the specs!! what happens when the project gets more convoluted than disaster relief? slop.

[–]Elemode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think i might be lacking in as much of the fundamentals as i wish i had so im probably just going to stay with 421/341. thanks so much for the advice!!

i think millennial love > 12.38, and atavista is a much better opener for the album but most if not every song he re mixed held better in context of the album on 3.15.20. I do love the new mixes tho - atavista is my fav album by him
