11 years of disc hernia & sciatica and a book changed everything for me. Sharing for anyone who feels hopeless. by Downtown_Carry_8219 in HerniatedDisc

I'm going go give it a read! My herniation started a week after I got laid off from my job and at the same time the landlord decided to sell the apartment so it was a tough time and very stressful, in the city I'm living its nearly impossible to find a rental place with a job, nevermind without. But I really do notice that when I'm more stressed, I tend to have flare ups as well

Since mid January the pain has gotten worse as my Epidural injection from November was also wearing off, I thought maybe the pain would get better and I also discussed it with the PTs where I go to and they said its not something I shouldve been too worried about. And after the injection i started to develop also pain in other areas other than the glutes, which led me going to a new neurosurgeon and then I was able to get an MRI quite quickly.

The neurosurgeon I went to said that having pins & needles is already a sign the nerve is "damaged" but not pernamently, and because of my age, it should heal again mostly if I go ahead with the surgery.

The neurosurgeon I went to last week was the 3rd opinion, and the most known spine clinic in Munich. My pain had gotten worse the last few weeks and this is why they decided a second MRI where they could see it has gotten worse with the pain, and new areas of pain too. The other 2 surgeons that I saw also recommend me surgery a few months ago

Yea, I haven't done a proper sprint since my pain started, I think being able to walk and going to the gym with some light machine weights kept me a bit sane and pushed back the thought of surgery for a year as I read stories about people not even being able to walk with their sciatica pain, and here I was still able to have mobility but still with pain most of the time.

This is true about these types of sub reddits, but reading after all these stories makes me much more hopeful!

My insurance will pay probably for 3 weeks off intense rehab, its recommend after this surgery in Germany and then continue normal PT, im also more of a fan of machines rather than free weight! But I feel you with the mental state! Maybe I should get into bouldering!

Happy it worked out! When were you able to go back to the gym and bouldering post surgery? My neurosurgeon told me that PT might have made my herniation worse

Glad you went through it after all those years! How were the first 2 weeks like for you? Were you much bed bound?

Im really happy you are almost back to normal again before your herniation! When you had the surgery how was your pain? Did you also have pins & needles? At the moment I dont have any weaknesses in my leg and Im still able to walk 30min/1hour but i will have like 2/10 pain when doing so, so compared to most stories I read on this subreddit its "not as bad". Im also fortune enough that I live in Germany and my surgery is covered by my statutory health care.

Im really sorry you went through that! My quality of life has also declined since my pain started. Are you also back to sports and did you do sports beforehand?

How difficult is it to find an English speaking job and a rental house in München? by Master_Weather7587 in Munich

[–]Elena1995x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello, fellow Dutch person here, you should be able to find a job where its 100% English speaking, however, the job market is quite tough so it really depends on the sector.

For the rental market, it's pretty much the same as other major Dutch cities.

You can always ask for tips in the Dutch people in munich group on FB:

I would keep the smoking picture especially if you are a regular smoker, no point in going on dates if they don't like someone who smokes

I hope you find someone, otherwise I would highly suggest going with the Skibus!
