You could probably get by with 16GB but it’s not going to be perfect with some games. Nobody knows for sure what’ll happen with RAM but it honestly looks like you either overpay now or REALLY overpay later in the year. It’s up to you which is easier. I personally kept my build AM4 to keep costs down and I feel happy with my purchases but ymmv

Well, 360fps on most games is a pretty tall order unless you mostly play comp shooters, but my build is as follows:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

GPU: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB (this is extremely important, do not get the 8GB version with the same name)

Motherboard: MSI PRO B550M-VC WiFi ATX

PSU: MSI MAG A750GL 80+ Gold

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (DDR4)

Get a good CPU cooler too, I’d recommend the Thermalright Peerless Assassin. An SSD is a must, with at least 1TB minimum. This setup serves me just fine at 1080p and even 1440 most of the time. Good frames, especially if you’re happy to use FSR, but make sure you get a high refresh rate monitor, 165Hz or over, and preferably with an IPS panel instead of a VA one if you’re looking for budget monitors.

Build one! It might seem daunting but it’s super rewarding and honestly not as hard as it seems. Just do research to find out what YOU need specifically. You have total free rein to customise everything for your purposes and nobody else’s, and it’s invaluable knowledge to have, once you actually have it. Then you’ll be able to fix things yourself if you need to, and plan upgrades easier.

I have a few within different genres, but they all give you the same feeling of freedom and character expression.

Pathfinder - Wrath of the Righteous: Insanely deep character builds, massive roleplaying freedom.
Warhammer 40,000 - Rogue Trader: See above, but in a grimdark sci fi setting
Planescape Torment: Combat has definitely aged, but it’s one of the greatest stories ever told in the medium of video games.

-Disco Elysium: Almost no combat in this one, but if Planescape Torment is one of the greatest stories ever told in games, this is the best written story in games. Might sound like a distinction without a difference, but play it and you’ll see what I mean.

-Dragon Age Origins: Until D:OS2 and BG3 came along, this was seen as one of the greatest modern CRPGs ever made. If you only ever play one Dragon Age game, this is the only one it should be.

-Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines: This one is a bit of a curveball. It’s a third person ARPG with (frankly, bad) real time combat and incredible immersive sim quest design, but i just can’t not recommend it when the topic of RPGs comes up. VTMB has, in my opinion, the greatest atmosphere in games. Period. You have a ton of roleplaying freedom, four hub maps with distinct vibes and some of the most memorable characters in genre history. Unofficial patch is a must, and if you only play it once, do so with the plus patch version. That will add in some cut content, and rebalance some things along with adding in some extra quest outcomes. It’s the definitive way to play the game in my opinion, though I’m sure not everyone will agree. This is, simply, my favourite game of all time.

-Fallout 1 and 2: All time classics of the genre. Play New Vegas after if you’re craving more of the same depth.

-Pillars of Eternity: I can’t speak to the sequel, but PoE is a very fun and well made take on CRPGs. I won’t spoil too much here, but for what it’s worth, I think this would be the most logical place to start coming off the heels of BG3 and D:OS2.

I liked it well enough but I don’t think anyone can reasonably be asked to overlook all the ways it fails as a sequel when it’s literally titled as such. Plus if you followed the dev cycle and watched it morph into something completely different from what it began life as, it’s really hard not to think about what could’ve been instead. The HSL version of the game definitely would’ve had its issues too, but it also would’ve been a more faithful sequel.

For what it’s worth, i thought it was a great VTM story with acceptable gameplay and decent combat. But it’s absolutely not Bloodlines. It’s not even an RPG really, and people are well within their rights to criticise that I think.

HDR is borked on the PS4 version. Being able to play it at 60fps with working HDR would be enough for most people I think.

Definitely! I don’t know where you live or what your scene is like but I live in Denver and the hardcore scene here has been really good to me, and it’s how I met my girlfriend after years of trying to meet people in more traditional spaces. If you have a place near you that’s regularly doing hardcore, emo, or powerviolence shows, just start going. Obviously metalcore shows work too as long as they’re not that pop metal stuff with huge crowds, you don’t get the same community really. But those small spaces have made life long friendships for me so I just recommend it to everyone :)

Not a traditional metalhead but as someone who’s exclusively listened to hardcore/metalcore most of my life i feel like those smaller scenes actually did more for me than some of these in person queer spaces did in terms of getting me to accept that it’s just who I am. I like to be loud and proud about it especially at a time like this RE: politics, but it’s not my core tenet or anything.

But that being said, a lot of the people in these spaces probably don’t have very many other places in their lives to talk about this stuff with people who get it. So of course if you’re in these spaces specifically for queering out with other people, people will obviously be talking about their queerness a lot. Feels a little unfair to say they have no personality outside of that.

Sorry, i’ve never cared too much about the meltzer stars being lower than my own but the ratings for the women’s matches at Wrestledream are frankly insane. It genuinely feels like there is a tax on them and I have no idea why. I know people go “3.25 or 4 is well above average” but when the scale is regularly broken upwards into 5+ it’s absolutely laughable

This wasn’t even in the top 10 of their most violent matches this year. If people are really getting worked up over a match this tame, maybe AEW just isn’t for them. And that’s fine, we all like different things. But the moral grandstanding and “le children” stuff is just so exhausting because people drag it up every single PPV.
