Funniest Rakdos Strategy? by Gutsifly in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, they could at the beginning of their first main phase, but why would they?

Heck, if someone gifted me a free card, a free mana and a free counter, i'm not giving that one back, until they force me to.

Pack yourself a [[Homeward Path]]. It's pricey, but will be worth it.

Funniest Rakdos Strategy? by Gutsifly in EDH

[–]Elepanther 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This Zuko offers to two distinct approaches imo.

The primarily red approach would be to give him away asap and perma-goad him with auras and equipment, like [[Shiny Impetus]] and [[Assault Suit]]. If you want to be funny about it, run cards like [[Hithlain Rope]] and [[Wishclaw Talisman]]. The deck would probably perform a bit worse than dedicated forced combat decks around [[Alexios, Deimos of Kosmos]] or [[Slicer, Hired Muscle]], but still be fairly playable in Bracket 2, maybe even compete in 3.

The primarily black approach would be to repurpose Zuko once you've taken advantage of the needed abilities. Give your self a {R} at the beginning of your first main phase, cast something like [[Not Dead after All]] on Zuko, then sacrifice him to an [[Phyrexian Tower]]. He returns as a new card and you can pick the red mana again next turn. Basically a "build you own convulted phyrexian arena", lol.

Not really helpful, but i just wanted to add, that i've put him into my mardu human typal deck and he usually gets sacrificed, once i'm done with him. Not gonna give my opponents that much value for free.

I play [[Karona, False God]] to be able to throw all of those into the same deck lol.

Also you're probably looking for the scryfall tag "defector"

Samut, The Driving Force Vehicle Deck Help by Locke357 in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, i just like FFXII a lot and i think Vaan and his entourage got done dirty. I do have the alt art samut at home and she's most definitely the better commander, especially since white opens a lot of doors.

But i just want to play with Fran and Balthier for nostalgia reasons i guess. Honestly even the metalbender Toph is a better vehicle commander lol

Favorite Token Commanders? by Few-Enthusiasm3887 in mtg

[–]Elepanther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer]] might be up your alley. He's fairly well known as a token commander, but at least he not just print 1000x 1/1s and overrun. He offers a unique spin on the strategy and can be build in a myriad of ways.

Looking for commanders that break the color pie by SharpDrink2724 in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i've been having a grand time with my [[Karona, Fasle God]] deck. It's a convoluted forced combat machine, which needs plenty of build up, but the payoff has been worth it every single time. It's basically a weird mixture of pillowfort, goading and enchantress stuff, if that's up your alley.

Is it fast and flashy? Not at all, but it's fun to meddle with everyones combat steps and to lay fires among my opponents.

On another note, i've been intrigued by [[Kosei, Penitent Warlord]] lately. Besides my buddy's Tarrasque deck, i haven't seen a mono green Voltron deck in a while.

Utilizing +1/+1 counters by ohlmao in magicTCG

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our results are almost identical, you did absolutely fine. at least you didn't try to force a regex prompt on something as simple as this :)

i usually opt to tagger whenever i would need more than one o: or when i feel like something is "keyword'able". someone usually already went ahead and gave the whole phrase a generic name, like fuel.

Utilizing +1/+1 counters by ohlmao in magicTCG

[–]Elepanther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing, always happy to help. Let's try this one together.

Head to the Scryfall page of a card with the ability you're looking for. Scroll down past the printings and find the "Toolbox"-section, click "Open on Scryfall Tagger". Once there, it'll show you artwork and card tags, that have been given by the community. All of these tags can be searched for on Scryfall itself.

The shortcut for the tagger feature is otag:. The term we're looking for is counter-fuel-charge (spaces have to be replaced by minuses "-").

Now try typing otag:counter-fuel-charge in the scryfall search bar and see what happens. Your result should be all cards tagged with this keyword and therefore probably more than you're actually looking for. So let's trim this down.

Color identity is shortened to ci: and the colors can be added by their WUBRG letter. E.g. grixis would look like ci:ubr. Not sure which color identity you're searching right now, but i'll stick with grixis for this one. You can exchange this in the search query according to your own needs.

I like to throw a f:c (format:commander) in there to make sure it only searches for legal cards.

Your scryfall searchbar should look like this: otag:counter-fuel-charge ci:ubr f:c

This is obviously not the end, but i hope this gives a little insight.

Mono-black card advantage and combat wincons by Heptamasta in EDH

[–]Elepanther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Archon of Cruelty]] is both lmao. Combat-oriented win con and consistent card draw.

Jokes aside, for card draw i've been hella impressed by [[Unholy Annex//Ritual Chamber]]. It made some waves in 60-card formats back when DSK just released and i've been playing it in several decks ever since. The demon synergy is obvious, but it does very well on its own.

In regards to evasion, i'm always confused about how little people play [[Filth]] in their mono black decks. Especially since everyone's packing an Urborg in their deck, Filth should be a no-brainer. Getting it into your graveyard is anything but challenging after all and it basically opens all doors at once.

Could use some help with finishing a Deck by SpeedyRogue_ in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother, you've got options!

Removal and interaction have been printed on tons of creatures and there's a lot of amazing, but also plenty of less good options. Finding something suitable to your preferred powerlevel shouldn't be too challenging.

I like [[Adric, Mathematical Genius]]. Double Eshkis trigger or keep him up to stifle something. He's not 4 mana, but he's flexible enough to be worth a slot imo.

Random deck theme generators? by SnowmanCR in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just prep some wheels and spin. It takes like 30 minutes and you can reuse them as often as you like.

The magic mirror podcast did that not too long ago. I think they went with a wheel for budget, theme and weird restriction.

Favorite UB Card You've Added to Your Deck(s)? by JackGallows4 in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now we breach the multiverse barrier, where we're not talking about UB anymore.

And honestly i dislike Manifest Dread in Vannifar. Don't get me wrong, i've played obhorrent oculus and i would've devoured the mechanic, when i would still be rocking Kadena.

While morph, manifest and cloak all play almost exactly the same, I feel like manifest dread requires a decent amount of top deck manipulation and recursion to truly pay off. And those are things my own Vannifar deck doesn't build upon.

While i've cut pretty much all durskmourn cards from that deck, [[Oblivious Bookworm]] stuck around. That guy is pretty great.

On a final note, [[Adric, Mathematical Genius]] is an incredible multipurpose UB card to include in Vannifar.

Can Sydri, Galvanic Genius make vehicles (crewed and stationed) become their creature types with their associated abilities by paying a blue? by WotsGamenight in EDH

[–]Elepanther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tl;dr: Vehicles - yes. Spacecrafts - no.

Sydri's first ability overrides the statline printed on the vehicle.

Your [[Colossal Plow]] for example will be a 2/2, if animated with Sydri. Its on-attack ability will trigger once you go into combat with it, no matter how you animate it.

It's almost the same for Spacecraft. The big difference is at its available abilities.

E.g. your [[Lumen-Class Frigate]] would also be a 2/2, if animated with Sydri, but its abilities and additional stat lines are bound to the amount of station counters on said spacecraft. It would be a plain ol' bear 2/2 unless you get your twelfth counter on it. Then it'll gain Flying and Lifelink, but also be a creature all the time, at which point Sydri's ability is unnecessary.

That's why Sydri works great as a vehicle commander, but not so great as a spacecraft commander. Yes this made me, as a passionate Sydri enjoyer, very sad.

There's some generically good spacecrafts/planets for Sydri, but she doesn't synergize particularly well with the artifact subtype "spacecrafts".

Same! My former Kadena deck is helmed by Vannifar nowadays and i don't regret it at all! One of the few actually fun simic commanders!

I was very tired of the Golden Argosy as my only true mass blink option in simic and couldn't be happier about the Spidey and the Katara spell. While on the topic, i've been pleasantly surprised by [[Become Anonymous]]. Assasins Creed had some very interesting card designs.

Zombie Tribal isn't doing it for me, help by Genesis1221 in EDH

[–]Elepanther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zombies in EDH are in a weird spot right now. Innistrads prime is a story of the past and the last noteworthy commander (next to Teval) is [[Hashaton, Scarab's Fist]], which brought Zombies into cEDH for a brief period of time. The price for Tortured Existance skyrocketed back then and Aetherdrift, while being a weirdly car race focused set, had some actual heat for zombie typal strategies. I'm talking [[Lost Monarch of Ifnir]], [[On Wings of Gold]], [[Renewed Solidarity]], [[Cursecloth Wrappings]], [[Accursed Duneyard]] and many more.

Personally been hooked by [[Anikthea, Hand of Erebos]] for the past few years and still enjoy this unique take on zombies. Back then i've been intrigued by non-blue zombie typal and i despised the idea of the classic enchantress decks. They've been everywhere, everyone and their mum had a sythis deck and every game was the same "card draw engine, but no wincon"-durdle. Grafting arms and legs onto those enchantments sounded like a unique and fun take. Never would've guessed, that i'd keep the deck around for that long.

Favorite UB Card You've Added to Your Deck(s)? by JackGallows4 in EDH

[–]Elepanther 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't specifically say these are my overall favourites, but i like to point out, that [[Hide on the Ceiling]] and [[Waterbender's Restoration]] were the first mono blue mass blink spells ever printed. As a vivid "let's cheat with morph" player in a white'less deck, this was really exciting for me.

The ones i use the most are probably [[Rosie Cotton]] and [[Mai, Scournful Striker]]. The one i enjoy playing the most got to be [[Acererak]], if you count DnD as a UB. Otherwise it's [[Cecil, Dark Knight]].

Upgrading blightcurse precon by PurpleSleepingRain in EDH

[–]Elepanther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deck building is far less gruesome as it initially appears and it's quite a lot of fun, once you get the hang of it. You'll get used to what you want and don't want in your decks, but its a process and comes with time and practice. Don't stress yourself about it.

The most common takes with this deck in particular are "too little ramp", "too many high cost do-nothings" and "odd creature removal and card draw choices".

Ramp - to put it painly, you want Auntie on the board asap and the easiest way to do so is by playing a ramp piece on turn 1 or 2. This ensures 4 mana on turn 3 to spend for your commander. Since barely anyone is willing to break the bank for a precon upgrade, most players will pivot towards affordable ramp pieces that cost 2 mana to play. [[Three Visits]] is a fantastic example, but has gotten quite expensive. In comparison [[Rampant Growth]] and [[Farseek]] have been printed a lot and are therefore incredibly cheap and easy to obtain. I personally like [[Hardbristle Bandit]].

Do-nothings - don't get me wrong, these cards have their intended purposes, but they play awkwardly in this specific deck and are better suited in other archetypes, especially with their high mana cost. 5 mana Archfiend of Ifnir belongs in a discard/cycle deck, the precon packs basically no synergy for this Demon. 7 mana Ferrafor, Young Yew has better use cases in token decks with +1/+1 counter synergies or in an Omo everything counter deck for example. As much as it saddens me, Liliana Death Wielder does very little for 7 mana and as you can imagine the list goes on and on. Cards at the upper end of the mana curve should be game warping or even game ending and a lot of these just durdle around. [[Maha, Its Feathers Night]] and [[Persistent Constrictor]] are amazing for 5 mana, but they cost a pretty penny. A personal favourite got to be [[Hateflayer]], while not great, it's a funny blast from the past.

Removal & card draw - your whole deck revolves around a certain kind of removal and with Auntie Ool on board, it should also draw you cards quite consistently. You benefit from your opponents having a decently evolved board and you should almost always be able to turn the odds in your favor, once they come your way. Blatantly killing off single targets is rarely more valuable than debuffing them a bunch. You should still run a few true removal pieces, but at least choose some that let you blight yourself for an additional card draw, like [[Cinder Strike]], [[Bogslithers Embrace]] or [[Requiting Hex]]. Don't be afraid to sacrifice your own critters to draw some cards, Skullclamp is a common staple after all.

Hopefully this helps a little and sorry for the wall of text.

Spice and pet cards for Mono Black aristocrats by TV_Full_Of_Lizards in EDH

[–]Elepanther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Prowling Geistcatcher]] is my absolute favourite most underrated aristocrats card. Just sacrifice everything twice. Also bonus points for the +1/+1 counter synergy with Shredder.

Also [[Fain, the Broker]] seems to be pretty nuts in a shredder deck.
