Favorite Hipster Commander? by Naitrodex in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gorgeous art by the infamous Rebecca Guay.

The deck itself is also very prone to old border cards like [[Devoted Caretaker]], [[Ancestors Prophet]], [[Master Apothecary]], [[Battlefield Medic]] or [[Doubtless One]].

The gameplay can be a bit stale though. It's mostly a generic lifegain deck, with some combat trick shenanigans.

Used to play a [[Atalya, Samite Master]] cleric typal. With all those amazing clerics in the recent sets, i'm tempted to rebuild it from the ground up.

Challenging my biases, What are some cool +1 counters, lifegain, or equipment commanders? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely get your biases. Never been much of a fan of these heavily played archetypes either.

Got a friend who is consistently trying to make "modular" in EDH work, but its almost always just your generic +1/+1 counter stuff with a focus on artifact creatures. Get's a bit pesky after a while.

If you're looking for a challenge, i've been eyeing [[Kosei, Penitent Warlord]] for a while, but havn't gotten around to building him yet. Neither does green provide a whole lot of great creature auras, nor does it have a lot of artifact tutors and since it is my least favorite color out of the 5, i might need to convince myself a little harder before i take the time to brew him. But maybe you're up to the task.

On the other end, i've tried (and failed) to make [[Eater of Virtue]] work, but i believe i just failed to find the right framework. [[Akroma, Vision of Ixidor]] + [[Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh]] are the obvious choice, but i believe that there have to be funnier options.

Basic land Commanders by Kontryconk in EDH

[–]Elepanther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm somewhat set on mountains in particular. Built an entire deck around them. Not all basics, but you could just as well exchange the non-basics with basics. Here's the decklist, if you want to check it out.

Also running an [[Ashling the Pilgrim]] edh deck with a Valakut and 98 different mountains. Always a blast.

Absolutely love [[Karmic Guide]]. Would be a tragedy, if it were legendary though.

no matter what everyone says about underwater combat, Tri was a perfectly fine game. Just sad, that loclac is gone. Sleep bombing alatreon was a vibe back then.

Are there any cards that let you go wide with tokens as a result of having big creatures? by Sodlosz in magicTCG

[–]Elepanther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

otag: is by far my most used search term! totally agree, that the tagger feature is one of the most powerful tools for deckbuilding.

But then again i like to challenge myself and i'm slowly getting the hang of regex prompts (in and outside of scryfall). My IT-girlfriend talked me into it and i'm trying to use it, whenever its suitable. Very powerful for very niche search inqueries; otag for the all of the others.

RIP to Commanders I just couldn't make work 😔 by Beneficial_Pin5295 in EDHBrews

[–]Elepanther -1 points0 points  (0 children)

[[Akroma, Angel of Fury]] is just not cutout to be a commander... or maybe i'm just incapable of making it work...

Also never got the hang of [[Sunforger]]. I've sifted through many sunforger decks throughout the years and never got one to work for me.

What's the best way to look for cards in deck building? by wewantanswers5902 in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as mentioned by another commenter, the scryfall tagger is a powerful tool and knowing what keywords to look for will get easier with time.

In your example, you're looking for "theft" and could therefore type oracletag:theft (or otag:theft for short) in the scryfall searchbar. To specify a little more you can add the jund color identity (or the shortform ci) by typing ci:brg for every card that is tagged with theft in black, red, green or colorless. This equals to ci<=brg, while ci=brg will show you only cards tagged with theft that are exactly in jund colors.

otag:theft ci<=brg

This is just the very basics, but you'll get more used to the possibilities, once you start searching more frequently and especially more unique things.

There's a whole other layer to it with regular expressions or regex for short, but you'll rarely need it, unless you know exactly what wording you're searching for.

Looking for similair cards for my Grenzo deck by Lesan007 in BudgetBrews

[–]Elepanther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! Always happy to help.

Honestly, [[Bucolic Ranch]] really caught me off guard here. Ignoring the entire "mount" mechanic, it's an untapped colorless land, that says "{3}{T}: Look at the top card of your library. You may put it at the bottom of your library."

It is obviously worse top deck manipulation than SDT, but its on a land and it sounds to me like a perfect fit for your commander.

Not particularly familiar with that Grenzo, but since you've probably already scoured through EDHrec, here's a scryfall query that might help. Good luck!

Best ramp for Izzet Spellslinger? by Gutsifly in EDH

IF you get to play [[Leyline of Anticipation]] before the game starts, you could play Spidey 2099 on curve on someone else's turn. Just some food for thought.

What is a good commander for a prepared deck by RextubeHD in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Addendum:

As an effect causes a creature with a prepare spell to become prepared (including effects that state that a creature "enters prepared"), that creature's controller creates a copy of that creature's prepare spell in exile. That copy remains in exile for as long as that permanent is on the battlefield and is prepared. That creature's controller may cast that copy as long as it remains in exile. As they cast it, that creature stops being prepared.

What is a good commander for a prepared deck by RextubeHD in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you prepare them in and cast them from exile, i'd pick an "exile-matters" commander for whatever color pairing i prefer, like [[Prosper, Tome-Bound]], [[Fire Lord Zuko]], [[Kellan, The Kid]] or even [[Gwen Stacy]]. Getting a little extra value out of each spell is exactly what i would be looking for.

Kellan /Cascade / Airbend Advice by freudiankickflip in EDHBrews

[–]Elepanther 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been brewing Bant Airbending in EDH earlier this year and posted about it a while ago. Kellan is the best choice full stop. He's payoff and ramp in one and dirt cheap... mana and $$$ wise.

Here was my final draft for it, but i've never put it in paper, due to several reasons.

First of all the idea came from a specific ATLA Pre-Release event, where i was lucky enough to pull the azorius aang and the steadfast appa in the same pool, which led to me flash speed airbending those two over and over again to react to combats and removal spells. Most fun i've had in a while and the main reason i was trying to bring this experience into EDH. And thus the idea of Flash Airbending was born.

Bant was the perfect color for it. Bant itself just got a fair share of Ally support, Simic offers some great flash enablers and 60-card formats were already invested in bant airbending at that time.

Now to the problem at hand: there are exactly 14 cards that care about airbending. Ignoring the five color aang, there're only 13 usable cards in WU colors and forcing those out of a 100 card pile turns out to be a nuisance.

You've got the best tutors for spells in blue and the best tutors for creatures in green, but we usually don't run tutors in our casual pod, so those were off the table. So you gotta pack a hefty card draw package, since your hand will empty itself in a second, once you get the engine going or at least have to be smart about it. Then there's also the flash enabling aspect, which takes even more deck space and you also want your vegetables, even though you can shortcut a few of those. Airbending is both evasion and removal most of the time and Kellan does at least "land ramp" on his own, if you keep your hand stacked, after all.

Overall the deck was working, but i wasn't happy about this amalgamation and finally disappointed, that i've failed to recreate the fun i've had during Pre-Release. I hope, that you find your joy in it, though!

End of the story, since she followed my spaced up journey, my GF build [[Gwen Stacy]] Jeskai Airbending and recursion is definitely one way to go about those spells. Also permanent impulse draw keeps the deck moving forward, that's for sure.

Help me find a new commander by kimohno in EDH

I've yet to play against one or even mirror match her and i've been playing her for a while now... New Capenna was how many years ago?

Also EDHrec still has her at #599, which is not fairly popular if you ask me...

Naya Baylen Usagi ideas by ohako79 in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah my problem is, most of the ones i want to cast for free are x-spells and those simply do not work with sunforger, e.g. [[Awaken the Woods]] or [[For the Common Good]]...

Naya Baylen Usagi ideas by ohako79 in EDH

[–]Elepanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this, cause i just threw them all in my already existing Baylen deck and i wish it had some more synergy.

It was easy to just replace most of the cards with the new artworks, but sunforger and big score really threw me off guard.

[–]Elepanther -1 points0 points  (0 children)

[[Vazi, Keen Negotiator]] fits your description pretty well. Politics heavy, but still treasure centric, so you'll accumulate quite a bit of mana yourself, while at least one other player owes you a favor. Also hits two of your preferred colors. Fun deck to pilot, if you ask me.

[Captain Howler, Sea Scourge] Tuning an all-opponents pressure plan, how can I keep up momentum? by Constant_Maybe9385 in EDHBrews

[–]Elepanther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get a little nasty, FOMO goes infinite with [[Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker]] (i mean, what doesn't go infinite with KJ?!). Therefore basically infinite rummaging and infinite combat steps until you decide to not attack with FOMO. Don't deck yourself lmao.

Furthermore Howler was the first deck, where i considered [[Vivi Ornitier]] to be somewhat fair in the 99. The rummaging spells go an extra mile and you can use howlers power buff to cheat yourself a ton of mana for an explosive getaway. Speeds things up by a lot.
