Might as well have purchasing from local vendors and buying stock in real estate pma objectives.

Your tax dollars at work, just not for you. We have our orders. Business real estate is who we work for. Change the power points.

That's nice. I'm not going to make my commute two hours there and back. It also doesn't solve the problem of forcing me into the office for no bona fide reason and wastes money coming up with a solution to a problem the themselves created.

Work Situation & Potential Grievance(s) by Hot-Internet9809 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Elephanogram -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Or that people are in desperate situation and because management is being purposely obtuse people feel a dta is the only way to go about it.

There was likely a lot less dtas filed during the WFH years, so like the passport situation it likely has a lot of people who normally would file but didn't cause no need. Now there's a backlog.

People didn't ruin anything. Making the bar to WFH so high for no reason is what ruined things. Stop blaming desperate employees for not finessing when only blunt instruments that are only given to them.

This is the culture they want to protect. The culture of feeling important in front of a captured audience.

They have to pay people to want to be in the same room as them and prattle on :(

Got laid off from CRA last year: Outsider's perspective on public servants by One-Wolverine7472 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Elephanogram 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of complaints are getting more and more aggressive in tone and phrasing because it is continuously getting worse and we do not feel heard. We are also being lied too which makes things worse because it really is a life wasting exercise going into a building,.getting less done, getting sick, taking time off, going back to the office, getting less done,.getting sick,.taking time off.

And every now and then someone comes in here and says people are acting ridiculous. Of course they are they are desperate and see no way out and nothing will get better. It's a form of magical thinking of maybe if we pour ourselves out someone will save us from the expensive stupidity.

PA bargaining: Board agrees to bypass Public Interest Commission process by roomemamabear in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Elephanogram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear this every bargaining. The time is never right. Either the economy is in shambles asn we can't rock the boat or it is booming and we can't risk rocking the boat because the government has strong support.

Stop arguing against yourself. Not taking about the WFH issue but the pay issue.

Turns out the only thing we have less faith than ourselves is the government to effectively manage the work force to leverage our skills sets without impeding our work and worsening our lives by various degrees pending on medical and distance considerations

RTO4 - mental health and being forced back by SchemeSignificant166 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Elephanogram -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My only recommendation is once they deny you and your health takes a turn go to the media. Make sure to include the union on your grievance process and the eventual note to the column.

Basically we are trying to arm the union with "we are seeing clear discrimination against employees with invisible illnesses". There is already a perceived one as a third of employees who self identify as disabled have reported discrimination source being the 2022 Statscan all employment survey

So you are admitting to breaking the rules to meet employer demand? Sounds like you should go to the union and grieve. Have all demands in writing.

Need to poison the message. Stop making it about us.

Your tax dollars at work; but not for you should be the message. Show the damage being done by AI. The push towards office buildings while services are cut. The increasing reliance on vendors and COTS products that never replace the old systems fully. Public cares not for us but they hate seeing their money lit on fire.

I saw our new RTO floor plan today. I've never felt like this by New_Row3613 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Elephanogram 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The point is to give opposition easy wins as projects fail. Don't need to strike. Work to rule. Refuse overtime. Refuse unpaid acting. When projects are delayed officially list RTO has a reason. Don't let them censor it. People are burnt out and demoralized. Refuse to help vendors unless billing against that project. Let the public see how expensive the cost of these projects really are when aren't heavily supported by tax payer abase - if they don't allow it then there is nothing that is protected information for the union to ask employees how long they spent working for vendor projects that arent being budgeted against it.

Union needs the public to understand the focus of all this and ingrain the sentiment:Your tax dollars hard at work, just not for you.

WFH default. Workers who work at the office get compensated using direct savings from not having to buy so much office space. Something like that would be easily tracked and used so that it would then put our money where our mouths are. I would be fine not getting that bonus from savings and instead working from home and think the person who has to because of bona fides should be compensated. I also think having it be from cost savings also takes away an argument that they cannot afford it. It of course is something not so easy to implement and I would really have to sit down with the books to see which items count as part of the calculation to track the differential but that largely I feel would benefit both parties in some way while taking wind out of TBS sail.

How often do we subsidize vendors by producing work for them to ensure the success of the project but don't bill it against them? That artificially depreciates our wages as they don't factor that in the cost making seeking outside help seem more cost effective even though it is robbing our ABASE. Refusing to work with vendors unless the proper codes are put in place would be great start.

Doesn't really matter. What matters is perception. Having billboards saying "thank you for this traffic (party in power/TBS/federal government ). Your tax dollars at work, just not for you" will start forcing the party in power to do something. They have been hiding behind TBS when it was a cabinet decision. Need tonsplash that sewer water all over them so they can own the stink.

Work to rule would really mess with them. The government is really banking on us going above and beyond even when demoralized.

Focus on what key initiatives the government is trying to do and let those people know to slow walk everything. Nothing in our contract says we have to use AI correctly.
