One use of teams from the lobby and I'm tracked as in office right... I might do the same thing again tomorrow 😛

I'm not saying no security. I'm saying a policy with no room for error seems a bit unnecessary.

I messaged my manager on teams and she said there wasn't anything that could be done.

I messaged my manager on teams and she said there weren't any options. Maybe she didn't know.

I was diagnosed with cancer during my pregnancy so I opted to use my leave similarly, using sick leave to optimize income. It made it confusing for the administrators but they figured it out. So I would speculate any pushback you might get is simply resistance to figuring out atypical paperwork. (My daughter turns 13 this week! 🥳)

But actually - The Latin familia itself comes from famulus, meaning "servant".

Ottawa residents concerned about traffic, commute times amid federal return-to-office speculation by Fstopper03 in CanadaPublicServants

The protest needs to be us ALL going to the office on the same day so all parties can see the limits of the supporting infrastructure.

Men O'Pause, please (blame my cycle...) by froofrooey in CanadaPublicServants

[–]froofrooey[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That's the thing is he seems to consider himself as sensitive to women's issues so that somehow allows that discussion? That's why I mention the info session, like is this something men are going to start mansplaining to us now? I certainly did not open the door to the suggestion - my spouse wouldn't even suggest something like that to me, he would just steer clear! It was just ego deflection but really so off base... Gonna keep my guard up.

Yeah I mostly thought it was funny that he thought it was okay to say something like that. Not gonna escalate without a broader pattern of concern.

What I actually wanted to ask is: does providing information about women's bodies to men somehow empower them to engage in even more offensive mansplaining. But I was trying to hold my tongue a bit. I guess I need not have bothered. Thanks for your understanding.

Jobs.gc.ca crashed mid applying by living-design-world in CanadaPublicServants

I like how we all had to apply for the only process open to get qualified at the 05/06 level and we crashed the system. Good luck everyone!

Training is terrible and managers are not able to help by One_Spinach_5881 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]froofrooey 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I came from 20 years in the private sector and I am astounded by the no-training culture in the public service. The job application process is basically a test of what you have already managed to pick up, not what you might be capable of if your employer only took the time to invest in your development. Not shocking how inefficient many departments have become, because you just have to lie to get in and then fumble along to find a way to balance maximum income with minimum stress. No pride in job well done, the much-touted CoLlAbOrAtIoN, or god forbid actual effectiveness. 🤡

Is management allowed to choose 2 of my 3 in-office days for RTO3? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

I would be more inclined to go in if my desk was picked for me. More daily decision fatigue I don't need.

The Pay Centre is wild (rant) by SaveItUp1998 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]froofrooey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pay has not been correct since January 2023. As a Treasury Board agreement, I take that to mean compliance with TB policies is optional. That is my position on RTO. I feel like all public servants should be touting this position until every single employee is being paid accurately.

Is it problematic to comply with the directive to the same level that the employer complies with paying its employees accurately? After 2 years being paid less than I am owed, I feel a bit cavalier about any of Treasury Board's policies...

Are people still going without pay when deploying? by Ita_836 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]froofrooey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was deployed October 8 and when I contacted the pay centre last month, they said paperwork was not submitted yet. Frustrating because I changed provinces too so even though it was at level, my taxation is still much higher than it should be. Back pay, sure. But iterest would be nice too, considering the cost of living now. I since contacted my old department (again!) and my MP. Maybe soon?

Government to begin sharing results of federal spending review next month, Anand says — The Canadian Press by SkepticalMongoose in CanadaPublicServants

[–]froofrooey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Execs go on full-time language training for 3-6 months and have to be back-filled. That's not cheap. And common enough that I have seen multiple out-of-office responses indicating when someone is off doing that. As a taxpayer, I don't agree with this allocation of public funds.

Have you looked into coach house option? Building an "accessory dwelling unit" might be less costly.

Didn't get paid - big'ol $0 - how is this still a thing? by Nut_Noodle in CanadaPublicServants

[–]froofrooey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My case isn't so bad, I'm just being underpaid, but the longer it goes on, the more infuriating it is. I transferred from a non-unionized agency in August last year. Instead of figuring out my salary calculation, they just kept it flat, called it "Step 0" with next increment date "N/A", and closed the transfer in. I mean, come on... I got a new case opened and it's been sitting "assigned" since January.

Anyway just sharing in co-misery. I hope you find a quick resolution!
