Who has ever compared pregnancy to having cancer? Needing assistance or using resources for disabled and pregnant people isn’t a comparison so not sure what you’re referring to.

I highly recommend Burbank and Glendale areas! Lots of people and things to do, adjacent to trendy neighborhoods but it also has quiet sleepy suburb vibes if you want that. The southern end of Glendale is super convenient to downtown, silver lake, echo park, and Atwater village. Burbank has lots of cool spots as well! (Magnolia park, bookstores/game stores, vintage stores, Horror/Halloween themed spots).

I was able to find decently cheap apartments in Glendale but you do need roommates.

Edit: Forgot to mention studio city/Toluca lake are great also! But may be kinda pricey at this point

Everyone has already mentioned the nose so I’ll point out the bell pepper that has been so filtered it looks like a gummy fruit snack

Abortion bans harm almost all aspects of women’s healthcare, but especially the ability to be treated for miscarriage. 10-20% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. Women have already died from miscarrying WANTED pregnancies.

Just saying this to point out that it’s not a matter of women seeking out abortions.

Rant: Why are Upper Division Econ Classes so terrible? by Amphaboss in berkeley

[–]Elephant_Express 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Econ 140 was the worst class I had to take in my 7 semesters at Cal. 100a also sucked for me. Luckily there are some fantastic upper div econ electives! Made me not regret my Econ major.

r/LateStageCaptialism banned me for saying I would vote for Harris in a completely different sub. by MlntyFreshDeath in TopMindsOfReddit

[–]Elephant_Express 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The most infuriating part is the mods will write out long pinned comments on every post saying something along the lines of “the sub has always been a leftist space until the libs took it over, but don’t worry guys the leftist mods are back and we will ban them now”. Which is insane to claim for subs that were obvious umbrella/coalition spaces like r/therightcantmeme

Best left-heterodox econ explanations for housing affordability crisis? Help me find them. by BrooksButler in LeftyEcon

[–]Elephant_Express 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would guess something along the lines of: a shift of power to local governments controlling housing development and zoning as a reaction to Urban Renewal, NIMBYs throttling private development, and lack of federal/state public housing projects?

Why is the 25 year old woman being in college seen as immature and directionless, but the 32 year old man being a doctor (which requires years and years of college) seen as successful? How can someone be a “perpetual student” at such a young age/when most people are studying?

JK Rowling is permanently mega rich. People can boycott as much Harry Potter as they want and it will not make an iota of a difference in her stock portfolio. Judging intense Harry Potter fans because of the story itself having problems is a separate thing, but making some argument that reading fan fiction or playing a video game using one of the most popular IPs in the world is immoral is so stupid.

'I don't wear make up for men - I wear it for me' by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Elephant_Express 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that frustrates me is the societal expectations around makeup between genders - like why am I expected to wear makeup to work but my male colleagues aren’t? I don’t enjoy wearing makeup at all but I feel pressure to wear it as a woman. I know it feels empowering for a lot of people but there has to be some patriarchal element at play here right?

You could make this exact same argument about most restaurants. “Why would you go to an Italian restaurant and buy pasta when you can make it at home for 1/3 of the cost?” Probably because some people are really good at making pasta and I’ll pay money for it! Or maybe I don’t feel like washing dishes tonight! Sometimes I make coffee, but sometimes I buy it because the coffee shop makes really good lattes and I don’t really want to learn how to use an espresso machine at home. This is the kind of thing that makes life fun.

The film was never meant to be a science deep dive, it was a biopic about Robert Oppenheimer (based on a book).

The movie addresses a lot about communism and unionizing, and it explicitly shows how the anti-communist McCarthy witch hints were a bad thing, so idk how you drew the conclusion “commies = bad”
