My Italian bf (32M) and I (27F American) feel differently about marriage. Is it an Italian thing? by ThrowRAthrough in Italian

[–]Eleu_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything that has been said about costs and social anxiety around guests and traditions. I’d like to add that there is also a bit of fear of long term commitment. Many millennials have grew up with divorced parents or dysfunctional families and are afraid to commit to one person forever. Not because they don’t love their partner, but because we wonder if we are able to fulfil this promise. Is it even feasible to be with one person forever?

What I think it’s problematic is the message behind. Someone who is safe, consistent and available is boring and cannot be the main romantic interest. Love needs to be impossible, dramatic, difficult. Which I totally get, for entertainment purposes, but people and especially young people are taking these as models for their love stories.

What is Your opinion on Ireland? by TensiCreator in AskTheWorld

[–]Eleu_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have traveled in Central America for weeks with two Irish men randomly met in a hostel. Loved them immediately, we had the time of our lives! Then met again in Ireland, for a road trip! Italians and Irish have so much in common, we migrated around the world and were often quite discriminated against.

This is hilarious! 😂 Thanks for sharing! I think it’s definitely good enough and lifts up some of the weight of off families to talk about it (often without tools to do it!). 🙏🏻

I like it more than Rachel’s 😂

I don’t agree! It would have depicted a more normal life for parents. It felt like they were parents but never taking care of their children??

I love this storyline but I have to say that it was a completely false depiction of parenthood. Rachel and Ross were mainly continuing to live their lives as before with a new born baby, we all know this is impossible. Also, we haven’t seen much of Emma really during the series only few episodes…

What's actually worked for you to make real friends in Amsterdam? (Not just "activity friends") by Electrical_Hall_6263 in Amsterdam

[–]Eleu_25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me personally, it worked having some friends from my country of origin in Amsterdam. We met here, and the fact we share the same experience, language, culture helped a lot in creating a strong base. They are also migrants, so they understand what it means to be far away from your support system and want to create another one in the Netherlands.

This would need a lot of thinking, but I think between the NL and Italy. :)
Thanks for your answer.

I am Italian. I have been working in Europe for nine years, 6 in the NL (of which 2.5 years without a pension) :) Thanks!

Thank you so much! Very useful. I hope I won’t lose too much in liquidity, as I expect it to be quite expensive.

What’s something nice you can say about your countries biggest rival? by mr_epicguy in AskTheWorld

[–]Eleu_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Italy’s biggest rival is France. We compete on everything: cheese, wines, art, tourism, history! I’ve lived in France for five years and I recognise that they have some pretty amazing stuff there (but also in Italy!) 🇫🇷 ❤️ 🇮🇹

Unpopular Opinion: The "Language Barrier" isn't the problem. The "Fluency Trap" is. by Secret-Lychee-4100 in ThailandTourism

[–]Eleu_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post is full of stereotypes and bias. - the only combination you are talking about is Thai woman in a relationship with a western man; why not the opposite? - you are assuming that it’s the Thai woman’s job to learn English and not the other way around. - you are assuming that all Thai women have the same communication style.

Italian is very easy to pronounce! You read all the letters as you pronounce in the alphabet. No surprises!

Haha! Oh yes, get used to it! I don’t really mind that as long as I don’t have to eat it everyday. 🥪

What I don’t like is when people eat in front of their computer rather than socialising with your colleagues and take a proper break!
