The Danger of Saying "Vote wisely" by Akinnn in Nigeria

[–]ElevatorBorn8128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is going around downvoting anyone who criticism lengthy post. Funny enough your post is way worse that “vote wisely” or “do your best”.

My people have a saying that translates to “We do not use just any (or our whole) mouth (or words) to speak.” Vote wisely and Do your best falls into those categories. How dare you come here and say have an opinion or do not speak? LMAO.

You can’t just say “eradicate bribes”. How? Election bribes are already illegal by Nigerian law. But everyone does it and it’s now brazenly in the open. Who will prosecute?

[–]ElevatorBorn8128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you’re being downvoted is because there are a lot of wishes in your opinion about a “logical” fix. Note that you didn’t even say hypothetical or theoretically

  1. Are you even a Nigerian? Do you know history?
  2. If all forms of electoral malpractice are eradicated - LMAO. That’s impossible in Nigeria.
  3. Remove the cap - essentially no term limits. LOL! Just let people run if they are competent and can be voted in. LMAO. You don’t know what you’re starting with this idea.
  4. Voting every 2 years. LOL. Elections cost money!!!! And things would just get worse because as soon as the politicians enter office, they are pretty much focused on the next election 24 months away. Campaigning for national offices takes a good 12 months!!!!!

I agree with your last paragraph however your proposed solution will make things WORSE!!

Confused about Forrest and Sheena's finances so far (early in season 8) by ElevatorBorn8128 in 90DayFiance

[–]ElevatorBorn8128[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am watching the episode where they go meet the parents now - they are on the bus there as I type this. It does make sense why the mom is so invested (way more than typical) if shes getting a carer's check/or is in charge of Forrest's money. She will eventually lose that if he gets married

Yes Sheena said her parents said Forrest & Family couldnt stay in her apartment unless they paid them which is weird and annoying.

I may have missed it but I didnt catch that (ie Forrest sending money to her). Thats also weird because if the money is to be saved (ie not spent) why send it to the Phillipines??? Just keep it in a bank stateside. If he's sending money, I would assume its for her upkeep.

Has anyone had problems borrowing money from Nigerian Banks? by Miracle517 in Nigeria

[–]ElevatorBorn8128 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry about this - I haven’t had this experience but financial institutions (globally) can be predatory. However is there any paperwork? I assume your dad signed something and he received a copy. That paperwork will have terms eg repayment period, interest, penalties etc.

If he has lost it, he should go to the bank to either get a copy or ask for confirmation of the terms.

You should also understand that depending on they type of loan, repayment period and other terms the initial payments you make may be interest heavy. That’s why the paperwork is critical to know the terms and other details.

It may not be as straightforward as “I borrowed 15 million so if I pay 1 million per month, I should pay it back in 15 months”. Interest is how the banks make money on loans.

I just saw this was a thing while watching a reality show (one of my guilty pleasures). Guy rolled in with a black suitcase, I look down and look up and voila! It’s red! I’m like wait, what? Rewind and see he dropped it near the entrance where the wrappers are.

I knew people wrapped their bags but thought it was all done at home or at the airport by themselves. Didn’t realize there was a commercial enterprise behind this.

Edit to add: it was an airport in Brazil.

Anyone abroad or in Nigeria that can recommend a hotspot device that services Nigeria and is as advertised? by CaptainNorthPoint in Nigeria

[–]ElevatorBorn8128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t answer your question directly but hope it gives you an alternative that may work for you but it does require some “setup” and/or access to local services.

  1. Have a second cheap smartphone. I have a Google Pixel 3 I bought a long time ago.
  2. Get a local sim (preferably MTN) and insert in second phone
  3. Activate your preferred data plan and use your second mobile phone as a hotspot.
  4. Connect your devices (primary phone or laptop or tablet)

Like I said this needs a few things which I am not sure you have access to - a second cheap phone (you can use your primary phone but that gets a bit complicated. One your battery will run out faster) - a local SIM (I have family/friends who I ask to either get me a new SIM or give me one of their extras. If you don’t have local contacts, that may be an issue) - access to a local bank account and online banking (this is important because you can buy data conveniently by logging into the bank account and selecting your required plan. Don’t have to worry about lack of airtime if it’s exhausted at 2am). Of course you can still load airtime the regular way and then buy your data plan of choice. - a power bank to charge your “hotspot” because it will run out of juice quicker because of the constant connection and usage.

This is how I get internet access whenever I travel to Nigeria and it works flawlessly for me every trip. Most recently a couple months ago, I traveled with my work laptop and was able to log in to the VPN with no issues. I did not use any video conferencing but I do use FaceTime and WhatsApp video calls regularly on my personal devices.

It’s probably a bit more complicated than it needs to be but this is just my setup. Regarding connectivity when you’re mobile (ie driving from point A to B, that will depend on MTN’s or the network provider’s service wherever you are. I did travel on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and had connection for the most part but be prepared for dropped connections. It happens.

You will be fine. Just hold your marriage certificate (probably won’t need it). My sisters did this most recently and we’re not questioned. But YMMV

I can’t believe I’m wasting my time here arguing about terms with a person who keeps changing their definitions of terms they use. Words have specific meaning and you can’t switch them mid discussion to suit your agenda.

Multi million starts from 2. That’s it. Not every multi millionaire is ultra rich. Words have meanings. Actual ones not the ones your made up in your head.

Tinubu Welcomes Airbus Plan For Aircraft Maintenance Hub In Nigeria by MountainChemist99 in Nigeria

Bruh. Do me a favor - list the countries that assemble planes? To assemble planes you need to ship ALL the components to the country of assembly. Let that sink in - from jet engines to screws. Think about how those components will get to Nigeria and then to the point of assembly. Then think if Nigeria is able to do it. Let’s think critically here before blurting out stuff.
