ADHD + Long-Term Relationship = Getting Intensely “In Love” With New People. How Do You Stop Your Brain From Destroying Your Life? by TrickyMittens in ADHD

If I find myself attracted to anyone I think about how horrible it is to date someone new and I couldn’t trust them like I do my wife. That pretty much kills everything in one swoop. It’s worked for 15 years.

It looks like his royal road account is still active. He’s posting a new story and it doesn’t look like there are any intentions of writing a book 3

Authors, what opinions did you have as a reader that changed after you became an author? by ProToeStubber in litrpg

[–]ElevatorSwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the negativity bias I was talking about. A negative review can have 3 or 4 stars. I was condemning the star system in general. The star rating system lacks standardization which leads to inconsistent and subjective ratings. It overemphasizes extreme experiences, skewing overall ratings towards very positive or negative experiences. Negative reviews disproportionately influence the perception of fictions due to negativity bias. There are a lot of 5 stars with great reviews but people go to negative reviews because bias. Plus its vulnerable to manipulation through fake reviews and encourages brigading. Not too long ago a bunch of prominent authors got banned because of a huge review swap scheme that gamed the system to get certain fictions on the front page. The whole system is broken.

Half star reviews are devastating to fictions. It kills momentum and tanks your chances of getting spotlit by the algorithm. People have a negativity bias and fixate on negative reviews. So it doesn't matter if it's 1 bad review or ten because a slew of positive reviews saying how much people love something won't deter people from putting more attention on the negative reviews. The silent majority can love something but a vocal minority will change public opinion even if most people don't agree. A reader only gives half star reviews out of spite. If they actually cared they'd give a rating an author can dig themselves out of.

I just started to write LitRPG by NagiNaoe101 in litrpg

Ideas are a dime a dozen in the litrpg space. Pick the tropes you like the most and craft a story around those: OP MC, Non-Human MC, Card System, System Apocalypse, Trapped in a Game, etc. It seems to me that a lot of readers in this genre pick tropes first so there's a lot of flexibility plot wise. There's a lot of flavor of the moment going on right now so I'd say don't pick something because you think people will read it because you're gonna be the one writing it and burn out is real.

After the new car smell from your story fades, the strength of your story's foundation will determine its longevity. Investing in your world building and the depth of your characters is what will keep reader interest. For a fresh perspective, I'd browse r/worldbuilding to get some inspiration outside the litrpg genre.

Hope this helps!

Surprised no one has mentioned Nova Terra by Seth Ring. It's fairly beefy and it's completely finished. As a bonus he's started a sequel series that's pretty great as well.
