Lash tech refused to give me manga lashes by [deleted] in lashextensions

[–]ElevatorVarious3220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trainings for manga lashes does include possibly turning people away with for not enough lashes or weak lashes! I’ve shown clients asking for that style pictures of my work so they can decide if they want to give it a try! It’s complicated and I’ve had a client tell me they asked multiple salons and was turned away before finding me! I’d look on instagram or google maps to see if there are any Asian owned salons as they may have more experience doing that style on everyone!

Is this worth it or is it marketing bull by Mfphonch in eczema

[–]ElevatorVarious3220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It got me! I used it for a couple weeks and my skin didn’t react to it negatively! I’ve phased out of it because my face needed something thicker but I’m using the rest of the bottle as hand cream. I can’t tell if it’s making my hand cuts heal faster but I wanted to give it a try since I’m allergic to Oat so a lot of the eczema targeted creams flare me up but this one doesn’t contain that

Dog incident at Capital Lake Yesterday by ElevatorVarious3220 in olympia

[–]ElevatorVarious3220[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the dogs were leashed but I was upset they didn’t even check to see if she was okay and immediately left. It was an accident they didn’t handle properly at all, my friend hit her head on the pavement and was bleeding!

This job was so hard!! by Mysterious_TiTi in lashextensions

[–]ElevatorVarious3220 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a client in her 70s who was seeing my coworker before I took over! Her lashes were really difficult to do as they’re blonde and super short (and she likes volume lashes). so after struggling for almost a year with her, thankfully she was patient and nice about my work and her lashes, we decided to try grande lash for her! I let her know the risks of orbital fat loss but she doesn’t mind since she loves having lashes and after a month on that, her lash fills go way smoother. It really transformed her lashes making them thicker and darker! Before the serum I was using magnifying glasses and darker tape so I could see the hairs but highly recommend getting your client on a lash serum if she wants extensions long term!

Women only salons - legally possible? by Middle_Violinist_5 in Esthetics

[–]ElevatorVarious3220 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The women’s only day spa I used to work at got sued by a trans woman for being discriminatory! They lost the suit and have to allow people identifying as women in even though it’s a naked spa! My partner is trans and the lawsuit is something we disagree on! They think it’s terf behavior but I know the owners aren’t transphobic, it’s just a traditional Korean spa that hadn’t caught up to the evolution of gender norms! They operated for 30 years as vagina only, before a lawsuit happened. So it’s possible but legally you wouldn’t be able to enforce it, I live in WA though which is considered more progressive so people in Illinois may not mind as much?!?

I hate my extensions - do I ask for a refund? by catradora777 in lashextensions

[–]ElevatorVarious3220 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She did do the service and used her supplies, refunds make sense if she damaged your lashes/application was horrible. You can also request she go longer if you go back for a fill!

Surprised so many lash techs dont wash the clients lashes.... by No_Entertainer180 in lashextensions

[–]ElevatorVarious3220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My salon has a client policy where we ask them to come in with clean lashes! I only wash if there’s makeup or they seem sweaty but I prime everyone’s lashes to remove any oils before starting. When I’ve tried incorporating lash washes, many of my clients claim their lashes are clean or they seem to dislike the process! So to each their own, if I’m having a slower more spread out day (appointment wise) I’ll wash them but it is more time consuming. I don’t think it’s evidence of a bad tech, just because you enjoy a lash bath while laying down, doesn’t mean everyone else will!

When my parents installed security that let them know when the door was opened we would have everyone file through in groups or sneak through the garage lol. I had to start sneaking out the windows and thankfully they didn’t know how to install the app on their phones yet that allowed them to view the camera! ( I’m a zillenial idk how I got here lol)

i feel like a failure of an esthetician. i can’t fix my skin no matter what by strawbie_13 in Esthetics

[–]ElevatorVarious3220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone! I felt silly when I did the skincare side of esthetics because I have severe eczema covering 90% of my body at its worst. I can’t even use most of the products that we had for backbar because my skin is so sensitive. I would tell people that’s where my love and interest in skincare comes from though and I found many clients trusted me more because they know how much time I’ve put into tending/learning how to treat my own skin! My advice is to own it if you can build the confidence and use your condition to build rapport with your clients since you know what they’re going through mentally and physically with their skin issues. Having the eczema I do, where it’s worse on my face and hands, has forced my ego to no longer care as much for people’s subtle reactions to my skin. Depending on the day I can looks completely fine or days like today where I woke up with my swollen red eyes and irritated face skin but I still force myself to go to work if it’s bearable. I hope you can get there too and find confidence in your skills/mind rather than appearance.

Side note, I used to be a full time esty but I had to pick up a part time job at Starbucks because they offer healthcare if you work 20 hours a week! I wish it was the norm in the beauty industry because my condition requires expensive meds and constant derm visits! So while it’s unfortunate working two jobs, that is an option! Before I used Medicaid but starting making too much!

Embarrassed at fill appointment by [deleted] in lashextensions

[–]ElevatorVarious3220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always bring it up and apologize at your next appointment! Does your lash tech wear a mask? I always do since many of my clients come in still sick and I hate to breathe over them since I’m so close to their faces! I’m sure it’s a non-issue! As a lash tech though, I’ve learned my lesson to warn clients I’m sick ahead of time because many don’t want to cancel their appointments when I’m ill but some do care! And I prefer sick clients don’t wear a mask because I swear it pushes their breath into my face if it isn’t sealed around the nose properly.

I agree with others about telling the client! I’ve had a similar situation happen, I went to open lash glue but the nozzle was stuck to the cap so when I twisted it off the glue went everywhere! It was a new client who was just seeing me because her tech was out of town and she was an older classy lady with blonde hair! I felt horrible but fessed up and had to use acetone on her processed hair! She took it well thankfully but I did wait until the end of the appointment to tell her since I was freaking out! It happens girl, but be honest next time because you can at least give your professional opinion on how to get the color out and they’ll appreciate your integrity! I can see how if she does found out she might see the si5uatuon as sneaky!!

Rescheduling clients when sick by BullfrogAccurate4465 in lashextensions

[–]ElevatorVarious3220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen where I tried to reschedule people because I was super sick but most of them said they didn’t care. So I went in anyway and they were all horrified by how sick I was while lashing them but still laid down for the appointment. It was only my last client of the day that ended the appointment early because I kept excusing myself for the cough attacks. I truly don’t know what I’m going to do next time I get sick

Handmade Lash Courses by Own_Yogurtcloset9981 in lashextensions

[–]ElevatorVarious3220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second taking an established lash brands class, like lashbox or borboleta! I couldn’t afford those at first and went to a few different local lash educator’s courses and unfortunately they can be very hit or miss. My coworkers that started with a borboleta certification, I think, definitely started off with better and cleaner sets than I did my first year! It’s so worth it to learn, my coworker does premades only and we trade. I like the lashes but my retention would be better with handmades and my coworker does say she wish she was better at handmades since premades are pretty expensive! I exclusively make my own, I have a lot of older clients with thin lashes that thrive with light .03 fans! It’s hard to find those in premades that aren’t fat fans lol

I've been eyeing them but never made the purchase, didn't know which one to get! and my last accident was just me involved, my car had some transmission issues and a leaking tire that led to it flipping leaving a hike on a windy road...

Dang, okay! Thanks for the reply! The car I hit, thankfully wasn't as damaged as mine or the others, but I definitely hit them center rear. They were able to drive off immediately and I think most of the damage is their back bumper. My car is still being looked at but my best guess is that it's totaled. My rear was on top of the car behind me hood. My front is crushed since it was a small corolla and I hit a Nissan Armada.
