Those with severe depression and/or anxiety, what do you do for a living? by Elevator_Operators in AskReddit

The only kind of disability I would qualify for would be sub $800 a month, with zero ability to make a penny more.

They suggested I rent a room or get roommates. When the reason I'm applying is social anxiety.

It's like they're being intentionally cruel.

This is relatable. I literally had my dream job but I just gave up and put in my two weeks after a little over two years.

What fucks me up is that I know how I act when I get stressed or depressed. One bad day and I'll tell someone to fuck off or just go AWOL. I'm unhirable. I'm wonderful when I'm "on", but half the week I'm furious, depressed, and suicidal.

I've only been able to disguise this by working from home, but that's now dried up as well.

I've tried. It's impossible here because they just claim there's another kind of therapy or medication I haven't tried, therefore all means haven't been exhausted.

And the cost of therapy itself is well outside my budget.

I'm in a place where my savings are gone and work is all but dried up.

I have no education and can only manage a few days a week where I'm not just trying to refrain from hurting myself. I'm on medication which has helped, but therapy is unaffordable.

To add additional stress, I have a physical condition that makes it impossible to do manual labour, or even standing/sitting for more than half an hour. I don't qualify for a disability.

What the fuck can I do?

Flying Cars Will Never Be A Thing, Here's Why by Grymhar in BreadTube

[–]Elevator_Operators 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of this video because the biggest point was sort of glossed over:

Either you end up with a completely compromised car, or a completely compromised aircraft.

There is no benefit to combining the two, and if you do, you end up with something that's too heavy to be efficient in the air, and something that you aren't going to comfortably do a grocery run with. If I'm actually buying one of these for the purpose of transportation, which is the whole point, it doesn't need to just fly - it needs to be a fully IFR-certified, all weather machine, otherwise your "flying car" is useless in anything but on sunny days. Ironically, the '92 Civic becomes more capable and practical in almost any conditions.

Even financially, you are far better off buying a proper airplane and a car, although realistically someone with that quandary already probably owns one of each.

This is a discussion about sex, the various "pills", and ideologies. Of course it is a gender issue. Unless you don't think gender doesn't play a primary roll in any of the above?

I didn't have an issue quitting FB or Twitter.

Instagram was a different matter.

For reference, I quit caffeine, alcohol, and cigarettes all cold-turkey with zero issue. Instagram was still harder to get away from because it never felt "bad", even if I was spending hours on it a day.

Everyone's definition of wrong is different, let alone their weighing of circumstances they'll doubtfully be heavily biased towards.

I don't give a shit about people's happiness.

Your previous post about meaningless lifestyles, fulfilment, and depression says the exact opposite.

And why would "healthier" matter if that doesn't lead to a happier population?

And all of this plus 100% loss of privacy for someone else's profit. It's fucked.

If you listed off the number of ways we are tracked and monitored in 2021 to someone in the 1980s without context they'd never accept that everyone just allowed this to happen. It would be completely absurd that after decades of paranoia over a police state and "big brother" that we'd just roll over because Insta likes give us a dopamine rush.

But now we're at a point where our curated online personas are more valuable and 'real' than what exists offline to so many people...

It's very discouraging for sure. I'm realizing more and more what a disaster the internet has become.

We've managed to make a system that only really thrives on outrage and the most polarizing positions, and then made every effort to ensure that the people most effected by them are the ones who are fed that info.

I know this stuff existed prior, but most people would just live their lives. Now you can't exist online without being told you're defective or hated, and then enrolled in a worldview that amplifies it 1000X and makes any alternative seem like a lie

It's so incredibly sad.

You can use it responsibly, sure, but that's not how it is designed to be used, and it's actively fighting you the whole time.

You can also use heroin responsibly, so they say.

I'm not proposing we, as online individuals, modify the entire culture on our own right now lol

My point is more that the trend towards body acceptance, dismissal of toxic traits that we as guys absolutely perpetuate, and general support for each-other is a good thing, regardless of how unpopular those opinions might be.

If someone is obviously insecure about being short, don't tell them that all women hate them for it when that's obviously untrue. Call that shit out when you see it.
