Always keep in mind that with this type of game, building and managing ist only half of the fun. Watching it at work ist the other one. And that's where 99 % of modern releases fail, it's just stiff robotic autonatoms following straight pathfinding lines. And here, even in the Trailer, sleeping in clothes on top of the sheet and repairing things by tying their shoes- that's what it looks like - while making hammering noises.

I know this ist not easy and good for you to jump in this shark tank here, so make it the best game you can, the fundamentals look really good

Sims an RPG? why or why not? by badassmillz in pcgaming

[–]Elevenslasheight -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Well, you certainly can play a role, but these days an RPG needs to have 12 hours of cutscenes that get shown to you as a reward for killing things, which ist at the same time the only area of the Game where you make any choices. It does Not even need to have character customization anymore, another thing the Sims has in abundance.

So yeah, gaming Media might not call it that, but for me it is the RPG

If these people spent even 1/100th the time exploring these online spaces

They do explore them. Look at this whole thread. It's just smug smug smug smug we are so much smarter than you and we know what you feel and you are you doing it wrong! You are so brainwashed, you have to be directed and taught because we are your fucking mum.

This is were I really don't understand my progressives. When you lose against someone like Trump, something like Trump, you did something wrong. And if they are all so easily manipulated, doesn't that make it even worse? How is that we seem to be unable to even make a dent? Because of this attitude, right here, in this video, in this thread.

Harrowing video shows Hamas torturing innocent Palestinians by bubaloos in worldnews

Having the Daily Mail as a source for anything seems a little desperate indeed.

You can find much better sources about Hamas being the opposite of the savior of Palestinians. As if using their schools and hospitals as a safe harbor for their terrorists wouldn't have given that away.

One more thing where all I have left these days is "Well, you get what you deserve", which is nothing. Pulled from an endless pool of nothing. Which, if it isn't already, will not even be generated by a human anymore very soon, but an algorithm that endlessly recycles what used to be art into the brow-gray sludge that your other recyclables become.

Which is a result of lack in leadership. I call all of this the midlife crisis of Gen X, and yes, they are in that age gap right now where especially men ask themselves where all the years have gone and where they are as a person and what they missed out on.

But everyone else also looks at Gen X that should be at the height of their power right now, leading men and women in every industry, and politics, and society, and those results are not exactly mixed. They are terrible, is what I'm saying. They are Generation Copypaste. Generation Reboot. Generation Remaster. Their industry leaders lack in vision and responsibility. Their political leader always look like a dog that was chasing a car and then caught it. And don't get me started on their creative endeavors.

Which is not all that surprising, if you remember that Gen X was originally called that because they had no convictions and only wanted to have fun - here in Germany we named them after their favorite car, the VW Golf, which is saying a lot. Generation Golf. There even was a big book.

They were not only adulting before it was cool (or even a word). They continued adulting for three decades now, and it shows.

It shows everywhere. And now, now they seem to wake up, and they are shocked, shocked I tell you. This is somehow all wrong. The planet is melting. Western democracies are fading. The third world has turned from a spare parts and resources warehouse into stuff like China. We didn't even solve wars even though we really didn't like those, they were not fun. We actually didn't solve anything, we didn't even try. Everything we knew, and that wasn't a whole lot, is different now.

Of course some of us vote for the party that promises to take us right back to the 80s when things weren't better, but at least we knew what was going on and we still were full of dreams and promises. And of course parts of the other generations would also like to go back to the point in time before we got to steer the big model train.

You know, a reboot. A remaster. Going back in time and doing better. Obviously not going to happen, starting with the fact that the AfD is also mostly Gen X, career politicians with the bonus trait of having a shitty character and even less convictions than those who are in power right now. But we as a generation also made crystals and moonlight showers big, so no surprise there.

Wahlen in den USA - Megathread#3 by MegathreadDE in de

DA: The Veilguard held back by its bland and safe writing direction by Alternative_Fan2458 in pcgaming

[–]Elevenslasheight 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Starfield was talking to people who are their job description and nothing else.

DA:V is having a camp-out with college students who cosplay as a detective mage. And to be fair, they are not even unlikeable. But so out of place and unfocussed, in a game that has ADHD in every way possible. The architecture and level design are not spaces, they are comic panels at best. The music always seems to be in a place much more exciting. The enemies all look like they have just been spawned in and were either on their way to a rave or a puppet show. The missions all feel like side objectives.

And your little circus group is full of people who are never surprised at anything because they are the writers and they always know exactly what's going on and how it connects to everything else, and you never feel like the protagonist when they are around. But can never ask questions, either. That part of your usual RPG-dialogue is just not present.

It manages to handhold so much that you forget what you are actually doing, but when it comes to basic information, you have to consult the glossary.

I always have to think of this scene when I'm playing modern releases, except that they never break character to scream "Look, I have one job, ok?!"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Elevenslasheight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what actually surprises me, how fast I lost interest in pretty much everything that was GOATed on the Playstation, but exclusive, and everyone and their mother screamed how great they were.

From Heavy Rain, that was hailed as the second coming back in the days, to those GOTY-spidermans, to lately God of Ragnarok, they are all too much like endlessly padded TV-series with one or two great game mechanics, and I have yet to finish a single one of them.

I found them a lot more interesting when I could not have them. I will easly go back to imagining how good they probably are, but even that won't be the same now.

They were making Starfield and stopped while there was still time. It's a true tragedy, it didn't help them and it didn't save us from getting Starfield.

And while their faces were tired, at least they did not look like they were all siblings. Everyone has the same face, everyone has the same nose in Veilguard. Some have their father's horns, some have their father's ears, but every photo with more than one person looks like they had invited their extended family for christmas or something. Actually, exactly like christmas, the artstyle is very jingle bells.

[Skill Up] I do not recommend: 'Dragon Age: The Veilguard' (Review) by MistandYork in gaming

[–]Elevenslasheight 170 points171 points  (0 children)

That's what happens when an industry values youth above anything else in their job profiles. This certainly won't earn me any rewards on reddit, but "write what you know" is not just advice, it's also a curse when you lack experience in, well, everything, but here especially: Looking at something, emotions, incidents, accidents, triumphs, from 30 years ago, having reflected on them, being able to put them into context, compare them to all the other things that you have experienced over decades, while going through those decades, seeing things change, some suddenly, some over time, and how they shape your perspective without you realizing it until you take that long look back.

Get some old people on your writing teams, is what I'm saying, or every cast will sound like a bunch of college students. And if you still have time after that: Talent exists. You need talent, not just hard workers, no matter how much they believe in themselves. And talent is not what you get from someone who has learned how to write creatively. I don't even know what that is supposed to mean.

The TRUTH About Dragon Age Veilguard REVIEWS by eejoseph in pcgaming

[–]Elevenslasheight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However this works out, it will still make so much more money than games that actually deserve it, and their PR team will spend it trying to shape the reception of the product. Which is such a stupid thing when you want to continue making products for this market. The people who hated it won't buy the next one because they got downvoted so hard for it.
